HOTTER THAN JULY 12

Interview. Avery Wilson. Singer. New York

first impression. I remember when I was super young and my mom bought the Thriller album, I remember going “woah” and I was like this is how music is supposed to feel. Whitney’s first album was ridiculous in how much it sold and how real the songs were. I want to bring this back to the forefront. Too many people are chasing the limelight of money and being the topic ofdiscussion. But they’re not doing it for love and to change the lives of their listeners – this alltakes time. You don’t just wake up and become successful, you have to work at it.

Where are you from ? New Haven, CT – right outside of New York City. How old were you when you/your family realized you were a gifted singer / musician ? Music has always been a part of my life, but it really started when I was 8 years old. My dad noticed I was singing in the back of the car and from then on my dad wanted to focus on my music and getting me into singing.

What in life inspires your creative process ? Everything, from relationships that I’ve been in and just being someone who has always been judged and everything that I sing being under a microscope. My thought process, in how I think, is very different from the average twenty year old. I don’t think it’s something contrived, I feel like it’s just natural as the artist of who I am. For me it’s always a natural honest life thing that inspires my music and what I write about. I’ve never wanted to be something that is untrue.

What was the process to getting to this point in your (young) career ? A lot of hard work, a lot of tearing the old me and my old ways down. I needed to build a more industry certified understanding and growing as an individual artist, working with Sean Garrett and Clive Davis. Even before getting to them, learning how people conduct themselves and carry themselves is what got me to this point. Having a strong mind and being independent is an important fact. This is always something I’ve taken seriously. I think it’s determination, hard work, focus and having a blessing of singing.

As a beauty magazine, OOB would like to know... What inspires your cool aesthetic/style ? I think I just embrace things about me that normally got me talked about and made fun of as a little kid. My height always stuck out, and I’ve always cared about my hair. I’ve always cared about my aesthetics and what I present to the world. I watched an interview with James Brown where he said, “if your hair ain't right you ain't right”. I take that to heart with this industry and how you present yourself. If your skin ain't right, you ain't right. It’s all about how you present yourself. The whole purpose of you getting dressed is how you want to feel, if you want to feel flirty, sexy, strong, these are all things that are emotions. I base it off my emotions and feelings. I also base it off what I want people to get from me.

What are some highlights of your young career thus far ? Everything is still my young career. My highlights include being on the voice and working with CeeLo Green. He is such a legend to me, he taught me so much on how to carry myself, to not be ashamed, and to be an intellectual and an artist of AA race. Really just being able to grasp and take in all the knowledge that man has. Being able to get in contact with Clive Davis and Sean Garrett, that happened pretty early on. I signed with them at a very young age. I also just performed at ESSENCE festival, which was amazing. The bet award with Janet Jackson and Chris Brown who i was able to work with was a phenomenal experience. I think every opportunity has been a blessing to me.

What grooming products do you use ? That’s actually really great – I swear I was just on periscope telling my fans about this. I use a lot of SheaMoisture products on my hair. I love learning about hair and African American hair and the follicles we have. We strip our hair a lot. SheaMoisture has no sulfate and is a great product. I use coconut oil on my skin, that’s about it. I use coconut oil for like everything, actually. Just lavender extra virgin coconut oil and that’s for literally skin, hair, everything. I don’t require a lot, that’s about it, I just try and take care of myself. I drink a lot of water and stay healthy.

Are you inspired by any artists (alive or departed), if so, who ? I’m super inspired by Prince, Whitney Houston, and Michael Jackson. Those are my three biggest inspirations who have passed. Aretha Franklin...Usher and Beyoncé have really inspired me... Can you tell us anything about your much anticipated first album...dates, sounds, collaborators....? My first album, my baby, is going to be a mixture of things that people expect, as well as the unexpected . I’m so grateful for my voice, but I also don’t soley bank on that. I write songs and play instruments as well, so it's going to be a mix of uptempo and ballads... This album is supposed to be super crazy and I’m okay with that because you only get one time to make a

Interview. Damian Garozzo. Makeup artist. Paris I am meeting Damian in a café in Marais on a sunny Parisian afternoon. He just got back from a long month of work, taking him to New York, London and then finishing off in Cannes for the Film Festival. As humble and nice as possible, all smiles, you would never say you are sitting next to a person who is painting the most beautiful faces of the world. That’s the grace and beauty that comes from within. I wonder immediately, being a success and staying true to yourself, what was this journey like?

Could you tell us about your background? Where are you coming from? I was born in Cairns, Australia into a very close-knit italian family. Growing up I was more interested in playing outside on the motorbikes, or swimming in the creek near our house, so fashion and makeup were never really on my radar till much later on! At 15 years old I left home to train full-time and travel for training and competitions all the while finishing my last years of high school on the road. Travelling to places like USA, Russia, Asia etc. so young really exposed me to things like art and fashion in a way that I would never have experienced otherwise, but it also meant I had to grow up very quickly. At 19 years old I felt like it was time for a change, and began pursuing a career in makeup - which was a totally accidental, but natural progression!

a way to get my foot in the door. I saw this as a sign, and immediately booked a one way ticket to Paris! What was the defining moment when you realised you wanted to be a make-up artist? To be honest, I didn’t even know it was a real job until one day when I was 15 years old, I saw Sophie Monk’s Vogue Australia cover shoot by Jason Copabianco. In the behind the scene photos, I noticed there was a makeup artist retouching the model by the pool in a gorgeous tropical location. It was there and then that I thought - that looks like a great job! It was very exciting to realise something so fun and frivolous was an actual career, and the prospect of travelling to new places and meeting different people everyday was very appealing to me. I’ve kept that cover with me and it now hangs in my living room as a reminder of that feeling of excitement I felt back then.

How did you initially get into make-up? I kind of got into make-up by accident, because my dancing partner didn’t really know how to do her makeup for competitions, so at 14 years old I picked up my first brush and tried my hand at it. Youtube makeup tutorials weren’t really a thing back then, so I spent a lot of my spare time scouring online makeup forums, poring over my Kevyn Aucoin books and obliging my poor cousin Francesca with DIY “photoshoot” sessions, which looking back now were pretty hillarious.

What was the process of evolving during your career in Paris like? For me I think it came down to a mix of sheer luck, and perseverance. I’m not really into going out to the fashion parties and making small talk, thats never been my cup-of-tea, and as far as strategies go I think it only goes so far. From the beginning I chose to surrounded myself with level headed friends, and these relationships eventually led to introductions with other like minded people working in the industry. After a year or so of freelancing in Paris I was contacted by agency Jed Root, Inc. who were looking to sign a new makeup artist at the time. They had gotten my name from a colleague of mine Anna Cervo, who was producer at L’Officiel during my internship there when I first arrived in Paris. such a small world!

At 18 years old I signed up for a makeup diploma in cinema & special effects run by Oscar winning makeup artist Peter Frampton, which was fabulous. I learnt a great deal from him not only about makeup, but about professionalism and how to manage egos. Eventually I met and began assisting Australian makeup artist Rae Morris, who was super supportive of me from the get-go, and really encouraged me to take my career overseas. Then one day by pure coincidence, our family friend and L’Officiel Paris fashion editor Patrick Cabasset suggested I go intern with him in Paris for 6 months as

What were the defining moments of your career that helped you become who you are today? Firstly, I owe a lot to assisting makeup artist greats like Peter Philips, Stephane Marais, Christophe Danchaud

18

etc., giving me a wonderful glimpse into the real insand-outs of the industry. Being on set with them for big advertising campaigns like Chanel, Dior etc taught me a great deal, especially when it comes to working under pressure! Then most recently, getting my very first contract with an international brand such as Clinique was very humbling. This position has taken me all around the globe to present new seasonal trends and product launches to the press, as well as creating new video tutorial content for the brand.

Nowadays I’m also very much inspired by artists like Stephane Marais, Peter Philips, Kabuki..they put the art in artist! I also really admire the work of younger artists like Isamaya Ffrench, who pushes the boundaries as to what we consider makeup in 2016 which is so exciting. How would you describe your personal style in makeup? I’m very much inspired by faces.. so my style varies depending on the person i’m working with and the mood i’m in. I really enjoy teasing out all the beautiful contours of the face and enhancing their natural beauty, as opposed to working against their features. I’ve always admired the makeup of the hollywood silver screen sirens like Lauren Bacall; theres nothing more timeless than perfected skin, elegant brows, inky black lashes and crimson lips! Also, as I mature as an artist i’ve really loved branching out into other forms of makeup such as body painting and character transformations. I’ve been lucky enough to collaborate with MAC Cosmetics on an on-going project with transexual performer and showgirl Allanah Starr, transforming her into Andy Warhol’s Marilyn, Jessica Rabbit, Grace Jones and even a black & white Marlene Dietrich. I’ve learnt so much from Allanah and from the process of transformation, its been a lot of fun!

Who of the artists inspired you the most? I was always a fan of Kevyn Aucoin’s work ever since I got my hands on a copy of one of his books. His transformation of celebrities like Isabella Rosselini into Alla Nazimova was pure magic for me when I first saw it.

What are your favorite products that you would recommend to an average woman who is always on the go? For years I’ve been pretty loyal to certain products that I know I can fall back on, which I guess is very much a male trait! Clinique Airbrush Concealers have been a mainstay in my kit for years, even before I started working with them. They’re the perfect balance between highlighting and coverage, so I use them under the eyes as well as quick touch ups on clients throughout the day. Also, I just discovered the Dior Forever & Ever Control Loose Powder which is virtually transparent, and the packaging is super convenient and light. I ended up using this on every single client during the Cannes Film Festival this year on all kinds of skin types and shades, it’s versatility was very impressive. I once assisted the iconic makeup artist Topolino, and was so in awe of how little makeup he brought to jobs. He made me appreciate how much of an art it is to mix products to create an endless variety of colours and textures, which is a very Way Bandy kind of school of makeup. This was revolutionary to me, being in the era of gimmicky makeup products and unnecessary, heavy packaging etc., so to this day I try and remain very minimal in my makeup arsenal. This forces me to be more creative in my use of products, and most importantly saves my poor back from carrying the extra kilos!

What is your idea about the new digital era we are living and the impact it has on the Fashion industry? With the constant flux of images we’re exposed to on Tumblr, Instagram, Facebook etc. I feel like we’ve become over saturated with information, and its starting to water down our creativity. I think its really important for any artist to unplug every once in a while so you can give your brain a chance to process everything, and then come back with a fresh, recharged outlook. The fashion industry is definitely feeling the pressure given all the extra digital content we’re expected to produce now. On top of already tightened budgets for editorials, where instead of shooting 10 pages over 2 days we now shoot 14 in one day - magazines are now pressured to produce backstage video content on top of Instagram posts, Snapchat, Periscope, etc. I did my first ever Instagram Editorial last season for Vogue US last season. Who would’ve thought! What are the qualities required to be a make-up artist who is successful in the Fashion industry? Thick skin! The industry is more competitive than ever now, there’s more and more makeup artists on the scene and like Ru Paul says, someone turns 18 everyday! And of course, people skills. It’s very important to work on yourself and make sure that you’re the kind of person that people want to work with. There’s no room for divas any more, it’s important to remember that there are so many artists who are just as talented as you are so if a client doesn't like you they can replace you within the hour. Stay true to yourself, and you will attract the right people into your life who will help you achieve your career goals. How do you balance your work and personal life? When i’m not working i’m cooking for friends, working out, or just actively relaxing! It’s hard to learn to switch off from the fast paced, irregular rhythm of this job so I make sure to factor in some me time as often as possible. For me this kind of balance is imperative so that I can be fully present in life, and at work. What is a beautiful woman to you? It’s very cliché to say but I do see beauty everywhere. I see women on the metro sometimes and find myself staring at how pretty the shape of their lips are, or the natural shadow around their eyes and how nice it’d be to enhance that, or not! I saw the model Winnie Harlow on the street in London recently, who is already so striking in photos, but in person she absolutely radiates beauty. 10-15 years ago we would never have seen a girl like her with vitiligo in editorial and advertising, or even trans women like Laverne Cox on the cover of Times Magazine. It’s very exciting to know we live in a time where beauty is finally being recognised in all of its forms.

20

What were your favorite, most inspirational jobs you did? One of my favourite clients is Princess Charlene of Monaco. I had the pleasure of working with her a few times, but being flown down to Monaco to work with her at the Prince’s Palace was unforgettable. She was so kind and down to earth, it was very inspiring. I also work regularly with some of the Victoria Secret’s girls such as Candice Swanepoel, Rosie Huntington Whitely, Karlie Kloss, Gigi Hadid etc., and am always impressed by their professionalism and work ethic. They’re the most fun, easy going girls to work with and of course with faces like theirs they make my job very easy! Also It’s been fascinating to travel to places like Dubai, Munich, Moscow and New York where we’ve held makeup masterclasses etc for my role as Clinique Color Pro. To be able to connect with local makeup artists in those countries has been amazing, they’re so hungry for insider tips and tricks and they work so hard at perfecting their craft, it’s been really inspiring to work with them! These kind of experiences remind me why I love my job. What are your aspirations in your career? I try not to think to far ahead, I just try to take each day as it comes and continue to try focusing on working with people who inspire me, and with whom I have a good connection. I think its important to have what they call a “30 000 feet view” on life and work, so you never take things too seriously. If I can be happy, healthy and still enjoying painting faces at 70 years old, then that’ll be a bonus! By Dasha Kolomeetc

Interview. Jonathan Liang. Designer. Paris Jonathan Liang is a Malaysian designer whose creations represent an exquisite mix of femininity and edge. We set down in his Parisian studio to discuss his passions, aspirations and who the woman in his blooming dress really is.

Could you tell us about your brand? What is the concept of it? We started our brand about 3 years ago with my business partner Jake Chen. We wanted to focus on what makes women vulnerable and strong at the same time, focus on the personality and the things they really believe in. Apart from that, we also took a lot of inspiration in everything wild, everything natural. We came into this world with very raw and savage feelings. What we take is what we give back, that’s why you can see a lot of wildflowers used in the embroideries. It’s scattered and it looks pretty much like the real combination of wildflowers and herbs in the wild. We always wanted to keep the brand consistent. What we do is pretty simple and straightforward. We also try to do it with conscious. We don’t want to use too much leather and we don’t use fur at all. We really don’t want to dictate what a woman should wear. We hope that the outfit inspires a woman enough to pick it up and wear it any way she wants. We do a lot of details in all of our collections but we still want the pieces to be very wearable. We like to create things that are functional for the outfit so that women can adjust according to what they like. The idea of the brand sounds quite feminine but we always try to bring a little edge to it. Tell us about your new collection SS17. For this upcoming SS17 collection, we were inspired by foragers. The idea is that we can go to the forest and take from it but we have to give back at the same time. We tried to incorporate the idea of forging into the outfits. There are a lot of wildflowers used in the embroidery that are actually eatable – daisies, chrysanthemums, pansies. I have a very deep love and fascination for flowers. The previous collection that we did had a similar concept except that we spoke about vulnerability more. We were very inspired by the works of Petros Koublis. He is a Greek photographer who is taking pictures in the wild in a very surreal way and we tried to translate that into the collection. What was your childhood like? I was born on a small island in Malaysia and I grew up in Kuala Lumpur. First, I did the Fine Arts and then I moved onto fashion. Growing up, my mother was my biggest

22

inspiration who was working really hard and that’s what brought me where I am right now as a person. How was your brand started? I met my business partner 6 years ago. Several years ago we decided to start our own thing, something we believed in and that’s how the brand started. We create 25 pieces for the collection every season. I’m also the creative director of the brand D.D. Collective which is based in Malaysia. There is a team of the designers I work with. So, I travel a lot to Asia for this. When did you decide you wanted to design clothes? I did the Fine Arts first. I really liked drawing but there was a point in my life when I wanted to do something more. So I gave it a shot. I did the fashion school in Malaysia and then moved to Paris and started building my career here. We have already created 4 collections. We discovered our identity throughout the last collection better, I think. We matured in a way of the silhouettes, fabrics selection and presenting the most wearable yet different outfits to the public. In this SS17 collection we have a lot of feminine pieces as well as sportswear. We want to have a good balance between these two. I kept progressing up here looking for the right tone of the whole brand. The first 2 collections is where we tried to experiment with the brand’s image and the last 2 is where we got a better grasp of how the brand is supposed to look like. This led us to a stronger identity that we want to keep. Could you tell us about the process of the production? We get fabrics from Italy, Hong Kong and Japan. Some pieces are made in Italy, more basic pieces are made in Hong Kong and then we ship it to our stores around the world. We have stores in Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Paris, Lebanon. It’s a lot of work but it’s great that my business partner focuses on the structure and the building of the company while I am taking care of the design and the main manufacturing so we have a very balanced work schedule. What direction do you want the brand to be developed in the future? Right now, we really want to establish our identity, we want to keep that consistent. Eventually, we would like to have our proper flagship stores. I would like to have control over what the store would be. I believe that the esthetics of it can really enhance the clothes and help to tell the story of the collection. I don’t feel like I want it to become a huge luxury fashion house. I would like the brand to always be contemporary and accessible to women. Who is the woman you imagine when you start designing the collection? It’s the girl that seems normal but she is eccentric in

23

her own ways. She looks quite simple from the first sight but when someone starts talking to her, she turns out to be a very interesting person. She understands a lot of things, she is well traveled, she knows how to act in situations. She is a woman who knows how to focus on the good positive things. This girl knows what feminism and equality really is. And she can appreciate her own eccentricity. What is beauty to you? I think that beauty is a projection of who you really are as a person. I believe that generalizing the standards of beauty is wrong. I guess the message that people should be giving is that “Beauty is your own to appreciate, no one else’s”. You should really be able to appreciate yourself. Of course, it’s hard to beat the mainstream standards of beauty but I hope, everyone would find a piece of appreciation for their own beauty in their own way. I believe in being true to yourself. If you wanna go minimal, do it. If you want to go over the top, make sure everybody knows.

Interview. Neda Tahniat. Designer. Paris What is your inspiration for this collection? My whole collection and brand is very personal and follows the journey that I have had so far in life. Being Persian and growing up in Denmark, I never wanted to lose my identity and always had a strong bond to my childhood memories in Iran. I find so much inspiration in Ancient Persia, from the history, culture and philosophy. I work with all that rich beauty and incorporate my own Nordic design aesthetics. All the jewelry is made in Florence, Italy, the belts are produced in France, and the packaging is made in Bali. All of the pieces come form the best producers with close personal relations, as values mean a lot to me. What are the values behind the brand? I create things that I truly believe in. For me the main idea is that the pieces are timeless. I’ve never really liked trends. I prefer to spend more time creating strong pieces that have more meaning and withstand the test of time. I will be working on one strong collection a year but you will always be able to buy the pieces that I’ve made. There’s nothing that will disappear, as I put my heart and soul into every piece I create. Could you talk to me about your personal style? I like to wear simple clothing, I think I have 90% black in my wardrobe. I have a simple style that I like to spice up with accessories. I believe that nice jewelry and the right accessories mean a lot when you put a look together. What is your beauty routine? I drink a lot of green tea, which is good for hydration and cleanse of toxics in your body at the same time. I think going back to the roots when people used just natural products, is the best thing. I love to read about the purposes of natural ingredients and like to use brands that don’t contain parabens. I’m only using brands that don’t test their products on animals. It’s just too cruel for no reason. Aesop, has great quality and I really appreciate their philosophy.

Getting Ready   with Noor Living in New York, working in the fashion industry, and having grown up visiting Paris several times each year, my personal style and beauty routine is a perfect combination of my busy lifestyle and the world I live in within the two cities. For the daytime I prefer to keep my skincare and makeup natural and low maintenance, and for the evening I like to do a smokey eye with a nude lip or sometimes a bold red. After I wake up I begin by cleansing my face with a gentle cleanser and lukewarm water, followed by a final splash of cold water to wake myself up and tighten my pores. I then use a tonic followed by Caudalie’s soothing Eau de Beaute 1*, which I mist all over my face to smooth and moisturize my skin. After letting the refreshing spray dry and set, I apply a light layer of Lierac’s Luminescence Illuminating Cream Complexion Perfector 1*, which is the best way to prep my skin for the day and act as a base for my makeup, as it not only hydrates and smoothes my skin, but also unifies my complexion and corrects any imperfections, leaving my skin with a healthy, velvety glow. Once my skin has been cleansed and prepped, I begin my makeup routine by lightly applying Givenchy’s Mister Radiant Fresh Face Smoothing Base Primer 2*. This lightweight, transparent gel freshens and moisturizes my skin, while also giving it a healthy color and glow. I then apply Givenchy’s Mister Scrub Lip Smoothing Exfoliator 3*, to smooth and plump my lips by removing any dry skin. After my skin is prepped and moisturized, I begin my makeup routine. Dior came out with a beautiful collection of eyeshadows, perfect for the summer. I fell in love with the 5 Couleurs Polka Dots Palette Regard Couture Hautes Couleurs & Effets in 366 Bain de Mer 4*, which features lovely colors of turquoise blue, salmon pink, and golden sand shimmer. I begin by applying a thin layer of the sand shimmer as my base, and then continue with a layer of the salmon pink to add warmth and depth. I then apply the darker blue shade at the outer top corner of my eyelids and blend the baby blue on the top. After my look is finished, I realized that although I love the palette, the look would be too colorful and heavy to wear for a regular day at work, but perfect to keep for a day at the beach or a summer night out.

I then settled for a neutral look using my Yves Saint Laurent Couture Palette Collector 5 Couleurs Prêt-À-Porter in Savage Escape 5* and Givenchy’s Ombre Couture Collection in number 18 Gold Blossom 5*. I first began by smoothing the Gold Blossom cream shadow over both eyelids, then went over it with the golden sand powder YSL shadow. I then added some of the taupe brown powder shadow from the palette at the outer corners of my eyes and finished with adding the light powder pink underneath my eyebrows, to open up my eyes and make the makeup pop. I then traced a thin line of Clinique’s Skinny Stick Eyeliner in 08 Wheat Thin, blending it in with the YSL eyeshadows, and finally topped off my eye makeup with Givenchy’s Noir Couture Mascara 4 in 1 in Black Satin 5*. This mascara is amazing because the tube is not only a beautiful item to have in your makeup bag, but it also adds volume and length to your lashes. Finally, I applied Givenchy’s Mister Radiant Healthy Glow Blush 6*, on my cheeks, which is one of my favorite blushes at the moment. It is so easy to apply and instantly adds a natural color and youthful glow to your skin. I usually like to keep my lips nude for both the day and night, and love Clarins’s Eclat Minute Embellisseur Lèvres in number 10 Pink Shimmer, as it goes with everything, day and night. Before I leave for work I set my makeup, using Caudalie’s Eau de Beaute again 1*. After work I usually like to meet with friends for a drink before dinner, so I always bring some items to take my look from day to night in a few simple steps. I never leave my house without perfume, both putting it on myself in the morning before I leave to work, and in my bag so that I can add more throughout the day. I am currently obsessed with Repetto’s Eau de Parfum 7*, which has delicate floral notes of rose and orange blossom, adding femininity, but made sensual and sophisticated by the oriental notes of patchouli, vanilla, and amber elixir. I also keep Clarins’s Ombre Waterproof in 03 Silver Taupe 7*, in my bag, because it instantly adds a smokier look to my eyes, more appropriate for the night, and can be smudged simply with your fingers, so there is no fuss with brushes. I like to wear it at the outer corners of my eyes, and as a highlighter under the brows to make my eyes stand out. Finally, I never leave my house without Clinique’s Chubby Stick Cheek Color Balm in 01 Amp’d Up Apple 7*, which has a beautiful deep rose color that I apply on both my lips and cheeks. Makeup should always be fun and used to enhance your features, but never conceal them. I believe that these products do just that, which is why I could never part with them and continue to use them in my everyday routine and lifestyle, and I hope you will too. Kisses, Noor Xx

Ishioma in London Hey girls I had the amazing opportunity of being chosen by the brand “ www.benefitcosmetics.com ” and “prettyupfront” to model in their campaigns and videos. Today I would like to share some tips with you that I learned during this day. First, the eyebrows, I have always been a fan of the brand BENEFIT, best known for their “eyebrow kit,” 1* which I never leave behind and always carry with me in my bag in order to always keep my eyebrows “on fleek” during my castings. The BENEFIT stores can be found all over the world, especially in London at its boutique’s address: 10 Carnaby Street, London W1F 9PF . Second, during my shoot, I was taught on how to properly curl my hair, so they are well curled and hold form 2*. For this, the hairdresser used the curling iron brand GHD ( http://www.ghdhair.com ). My curls were visibly better defined using the “GUD curve” which is just TERRIBLE ! However, always be aware, that before using the iron, you must apply a protective cream to moisturize the hair in order to avoid damage. The results are truly beautiful, as you can see in the picture below ! GHD, in my opinion, is the best brand on the market. It doesn’t damage your hair! You must never forget the importance of taking care of your hair for castings, photo shoots, and in life in general, but especially in modeling ! So there you go girls … in order to find these hair products of which I have talked to you about, find the address of the of the shop here: “SELFRIDGES” in London. 400 Oxford St, London W1A 1AB My third beauty tip that I also learned while on set for this shoot, is to always start by moisturizing and hydrating your skin before applying the Yves Saint Laurent tinted moisturizer 3*, and finally your foundation. It gives your skin an instant, luminous glow (see the photo below). The makeup artist explained that the tinted moisturizer applies to the skin much better, as it is longer lasting and gives the skin a velvety effect as well. Indeed, this was the case … Wow, I became obsessed with my complexion! You can find this foundation in all of the big cosmetic and beauty stores. If you are in London, you can find it at “ SELFRIDGES” on Oxford Street, or also at any “BOOTS” store that sells most big cosmetic brands! And finally, my last tip of a busy day like mine, are the fake eyelashes. I usually would wear all of the different styles and brands of fake eyelashes, but thanks to my makeup artist, I fell upon the British brand called “LASHUNLIMITED,”4* which is just amazing. If you want to take a look at their products, you can visit their website "http://lashunlimited.com, " but unfortunately, I cannot give you an address in London, as at the moment, they can only be ordered online. And there you go girls, and finally I am ready backstage to start shooting the campaign and video! Kisses! Ishioma

YOGA Meet Stephanie, a model and Yoga Alliance Certified Teacher; follow her simple tips on yoga and health, to achieve a positive well being. Stephanie's yoga website: http://www.yogidelicious.com

Three positions to properly begin one's vacation and relax. You should never be in pain, focus on your alignment, and never go over your limits to respect and take care of your body. Breathing is essential for every position, as well as a crucial part of an everyday, healthy lifestyle.

Practice 8 breaths (inhale/exhale) in each position. Breathe in through the nose and try to regulate the length of your inhales and exhales.

1 Chaturanga Dandasana or the Plank

This position tones the body and allows an overall deep strengthening of the body. Start with a high plank then bend your elbows, keeping them close to your sides. Push both of your heels back, and keep your head forward to fully extend your back. Think about your body as a straight plank. Focus on your breathing and practice a nice smile ensuring it is internal towards yourself as well.

Sports bra and legging Lolë 70

MOOD

2 Eka Pada Rajakapotasana

This variation on the pigeon pose stretches the torso, thighs, and the psoas (a deep flexing muscle of the thigh) and stimulates the abdominal organs. Start with a slit, then bend your back leg and grab your foot. To stabilize yourself, put your weight in your forward knee. Imagine that there is a thread attached at the top of your head, pulling you straight up. Breathe deeply. This is best practiced at the end of the day or after a workout.

71

3 Sarvangasana or The Candle Pose

Lay straight on your back, place your hands under the lumbar, then keeping your legs together, lift them up vertically. Imagine that your are pushing the ceiling with your toes in order to keep your body straight. This inverted posture irrigates the face, the neck and brain, while stabilizing the nervous system. It’s also beneficial for the veins in your legs when they are feeling heavy. Breathe deeply.

RĂŠnata @ M Management Paris. 142

OOB was there! Hotel Vernet. Paris

At the Hotel Vernet, Serkan Cura did his show during the Paris Fashion Haute Couture week. A presentation who mix Couture and Art. "Return to the essential… Recall the sensations that were my own like the morning of my career. Focus on the delicate and subtle colors. Combine art and fashion, this was my obsession. Serkan Cura." That show was perfect, delicate, and so chic, as the first Haute Couture Maisons in Paris used to do in the beginning of the 20 century. The makeup and the hair was stunning, between sculpture and beauty. The key makeup artist Elise Ducrot, for Black Up Cosmetics, created a makeup who played with the light and the textures. Sylvain Le Hen, the key hair stylist did magic, and found the way to hide the hair under the transparent helmet. Everything was pure, everything was perfect! Bravo Mr Serkan Cura! A STOPOVER IN

VIETNAM

OOB fly w hereabouts: 102o 08' 109o 28' latitude East 8o 02' 23o 23' longitude North destination Vietnam

We begin our descent into a county rich in history and culture. A country where 54 different ethnicities and cultures coexist and deeply practice their native customs, as well as a specific lifestyle and dress codes. Together, majority groups, such as the Kinh, Mong, Khmer, and Thaï or minority groups such as the LoLo, Cong, and RoMam, form an intricate mosaic of styles; a swatch of colors and fragrances. However, the style of the trademark “Non La” (Vietnamese conical hat) is a staple among all ethnicity groups. Aside from its protection from the sun and various weather circumstances, it symbolizes timeless Vietnamese elegance. Mainly worn by women, the “Non La” is often decorated in paper flowers or ideograms of poems, and generally paired with the “Áo Dài,” a traditional Vietnamese dress, symbolizing femininity. This fitted tunic is consists of a Mao collar and has long slits along each side of the leg, cut down to the ankle, elegantly emphasizing and elongating the silhouette of the Vietnamese woman.

The 1650 km long country, covered in a vibrant green blanket of vegetation, delicately hides the country's picturesque landscapes, enriched places, history, and culture. Vietnam; a magical country offering rich history, tradition, and culture, as well as nature and phenomenal cuisine. From De Hanoï, the former imperial city of Hue situated at the delta of the Mekong River, to the country’s psychedelic decor and setting along the Halong Bay; rice terraces in the mysterious forests of Fan Xi Pan, and the Saigon River at the Nha Trang beach, Vietnam is truly a geographic wonder and rare beauty. Between the sea and mountains, discover the first country of the Indochinese peninsula, an enchanting lush and tropical country. Discover a country that is equally as mysterious as fascinating. WORLD OF BEAUTY

Escape. To relax and discover other cultures is the best way to counterbalance our packed and busy schedules. OOB wanted to go and meet women from around the world and create a series of interviews on their beauty habits. Spread throughout various continents, each country has their own little secrets. In the first chapter of World of Beauty, Stephanie B and Cyril Lagel take you on a trip to southern Vietnam in Asia, where nature still holds a special place.

Team Vietnam I invite you to follow me travel around the world and together discover exceptional places of profound beauty. I have always been passionate about health and well being, thanks to my father, who would add spirulina in my baby bottles. My mother made me discover the world, and I want to share my favorites. The job of a model also allowed me to travel to incredible places and meet truly special people from New Zealand to Brazil, on my way to South Africa. I found the perfect travel companion, the photographer Cyril Lagel. His delicate artistic manner and keen eye for beauty are crucial and he passionately partakes in the inspiring task of capturing the faces and atmosphere of our adventures.

time. It is our turn to start applying these techniques and take advantage of their physical and mental benefits. Release your tensions and breathe in the fresh air filled with marine iodine and vitamin D, for a calm spirit and enhanced mood. Every morning, The Six Senses Con Dao offers yoga and meditation classes. One class in particular has attracted our interest: meditation with Tibetan bawl. The bawl emits Alpha sound waves, similar to those produced by the human brain, which result in a calm sensory and mental state. The energy will induce an inner voyage: the sound waves penetrate the body, the face becomes smooth, the shoulders relax. Deep breath brings on a consciousness of the whole body.

To take time for oneself instead of rushing has become a luxury. Consciousness, meditation, yoga... celebrities such as Gisele Bundchen or Sting among other wellness gurus have been showing us the way for some Sirsasana : an ideal posture to calm the nervous system

23, Guest Experience Maker* CHRISTINA, BORN IN HO CHI MINH, IS LIKE A SUNSHINE. SHE WEARS HER CONTAGIOUS SMILE, AND HER SUNSCREEN, ALL DAY !

As a Guest Experience Maker, Christina spends her days with her customers using her genuine values of beauty, patience and kindness. STEPHANIE: HOW DO YOU DEFINE A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN? Christina: For me there are two major aspects. First, the beauty of knowledge: nowadays all women should have easy access to education. Then there is the beauty of the heart: generosity, kindness, sense of humor. There is no definition of beauty of a face or body without the selfconfidence brought by education. HOW DO VIETNAMESE WOMEN DEFINE BEAUTY? Tradition is slowly disappearing in Vietnam. A Vietnamese woman has to adhere to strict codes:she has to be a good hostess, have a pleasant physical appearance, take good care of her husband and children, be kind to her parents, and (sorry) she must be a virgin until her wedding. But we are on the right track.

After a few minutes she finally reveals her mantra: less is more ! STEPHANIE: HOW DO YOU DEFINE A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN? Phung: Physical appearance is not essential in my opinion. Personality and attitude are much more important. It is crucial to express oneself and behave with others in a friendly manner. WHICH ARE THE BEAUTY REQUIREMENTS OF VIETNAMESE WOMEN? This dynamic young woman from Ho Chi Minh has been managing the resort's restaurants for the past three years. She channels her knowledge of nutrition into the balance of ingredients on the plates, in the service of her customers' beauty and health.

In Vietnam we start the day with soup. This broth activates metabolism, cleanses the body by inducing perspiration, and blood circulation becomes more efficient. I do not use makeup, and I am very serious about moisturizing my skin. Every night I wash my face with water before using a tonic, followed by a moisturizing lotion. With our hot climate it is important to use a light texture rich in water.

I make a face mask, which I apply daily to keep off blemishes. It is a mixture of egg white and saffron powder, which is rich in carotene.
