RUSSELL LANDS DEBUTS CLUBHOUSE RENDERING FOR WICKER POINT GOLF CLUB, A COORE AND CRENSHAW-DESIGNED COURSE LAKE MARTIN, AL (March 16, 2022) – Today, Russell Lands debuted a rendering of the clubhouse at Wicker Point Golf Club, the first Coore and Crenshaw-designed course in Alabama. The private club and clubhouse reflect the unique beauty and topography of the 18- hole course, which is scheduled to begin welcoming golfers in summer 2023. The design was created exclusively for Wicker Point Golf Club by Hank Long at Henry Sprott Long & Associates, a Birmingham-based firm which is widely considered an expert in private and lake club architecture. The clubhouse contractor selected, Brasfield & Gorrie, is also Birmingham-based. Construction is slated to begin in late spring 2022. The clubhouse will feature a generous wraparound porch with views of multiple holes and Lake Martin visible from nearly every room – all with a lake-house ambiance providing an ideal setting for dining, events or relaxing after a round. Accompanying the clubhouse is a standalone golf shop complete with pro shop and men’s and women’s locker rooms and will also feature a “wind down” room, including a lounge area and adjacent bar. A large, undulating practice putting course will not only allow players the opportunity to sharpen their skills before their round; they can choose to continue friendly competition well into the evening. Defined by its pine plantations, meandering creeks, and lakefront holes, Wicker Point Golf Club will challenge golfers and redefine the Alabama golf experience with the course’s distinctive settings, hole variety and unique amenities. Wicker Point Golf Club is the centerpiece of Lake Martin’s newest luxury residential development, The Heritage. The Heritage will include roughly 240 waterfront homesites and 130 wooded interior lots, with the first release coming summer 2022. A key amenity for Heritage homeowners is the lake club, a resident-owned facility that will include a fitness center, saline pool with an adjacent grill facility, eight tennis courts, a tennis pro-shop and eight pickleball courts as well as a beautiful event lawn, covered pavilions, firepits, waterfront beach area, and community dock complex.

Buyer Basics As many of you likely are beginning to think about your summer moves, I would like to discuss some buyer basics. Today’s real estate market is tricky. We all know this! So, what is the key to being a successful buyer? Simplify and stick to the basics. Everyone (well, most) loves to go look at pretty houses. In the “old days,” realtors could select 10+ homes within your budget, size and location parameters to spend a day or so driving around and looking. That is no longer is the case. Today it’s more like “Hey, one just hit the market! We have to get in and see it NOW before it’s gone!” This fast-paced market requires buyers to do their homework on the front end so they are ready to jump when THE house becomes available. This means having a rock solid wish list. What size home will fit your needs? Where would you like to live? What is your budget? The first two are pretty easy to figure out. But the budget… that can be tricky. It’s honestly the most important! Your budget isn’t what you THINK you can afford. It isn’t the price range of homes that are appealing to you. Your budget is the amount that a qualified mortgage lender tells you that you can qualify for AND the amount that you are actually willing to pay per month. Step one to being a successful buyer in this market is meeting with a local lender, someone you can call directly, sit down with and discuss things face to face. This is where you start. Drew Goodner, a regional manager with Renasant Bank, suggests all buyers go through a pre-approval processs. “Pre-approval is an important process to let you know not only the purchase price amount that you qualify for but also what that monthly payment will look like,” Goodner said. “This narrows down the budget you are comfortable with. This important process helps you and your realtor know what houses to look for.” Not only is pre-approval helpful to you and your realtor, often times it is required by sellers to be submitted with your offer. Goodner sees this every day. “It is very important to be pre-approved so you have a lender letter in hand to make a strong offer in this competitive market,” he said. To summarize, tell your realtor your three “basics” – size, location and budget. Then let your agent know a few special features that would make a home a fantastic fit for you. Maybe lot size, layout specifics, view preferences or lifestyle preferences like a pool or workshop. This will set you and your agent up for great success in today’s market.
