On the Tracks Wine Trail Returns Oct. 22 Opelika Main Street’s annual On the Tracks wine trail returns to downtown Oct. 22 from 6 to 9 p.m. Presented by Stone Martin Builders, this year’s event features multiple unique wine stops. At each stop attendees will get to taste a wide array of wine options. “On the Tracks is a great Opelika tradition,” said Opelika Main Street Executive Director Ken Ward. “It’s a fun way to support downtown’s small businesses while also sampling a great selection of wine.” Live music, a photo booth and caricature drawings will also be at the event. The cCity of Opelika kicked off the 2040 Comprehensive Plan project in late July. Opelika 2040 will serve as the city’s official guide for future growth, land use and development for the next 20

years. Informed by community consensus, community vision, existing conditions and future potentials, the comprehensive plan will serve as a road map to the future by guiding policy decisions and helping the community achieve its long-term objectives.

The city of Opelika is pleased to announce Stephen Fields has been promoted to deputy fire chief of the Opelika Fire Department. The essential function of this position is to assist chief in overseeing and directing operations of the fire department. “I am grateful for the opportunity to continue growing in my career at Opelika Fire Department,” Fields said. “As a department, we have made many exciting improvements to better serve the residents of Opelika. I look forward to being a part of these endeavors and developing our department into the best it can be. Fields is an Auburn High School graduate and has worked for the Opelika Fire

He has served Opelika as a firefighter, a fire-medic, an officer and captain over the training division. “Since I transferred to Opelika Fire Department, it was evident that Fields is a hardworking leader and well respected throughout the department,” said Fire Chief Shane Boyd. “I look forward to continuing working alongside Fields and I have no doubt that he will do an excellent job as deputy chief.”
