The areas of teaching are basic Thai subjects with emphasis on positive "fun" learning by doing such as sports and arts. In addition, the facility has an "On Air" room for kids to play as a DJ and play music and talk. The boys also garden and play on the large outdoor sports field. Very rewarding for the right volunteer who is prepared for challenging but rewarding work with these boys.
Volunteer tasks may include teaching and playing sports and music, reading books, playing games, and doing art/drawing.
Volunteers stay at the OMP Training Center in Nong Khai with other volunteers, our local trainees and staff. The Center consists of two buildings, with simple Thai style bedrooms for volunteers, trainees and staff and showers in both houses. Air conditioning is available at an extra charge. Staff, trainees and volunteers help to clean the rooms. You bring your own bed sheets and towels as well as any hygiene articles that you feel you may need. A sleeping bag is useful during the cool season (November February). Volunteers have their own office with PCs, internet and 24/7 wireless for those who bring their own laptops.Â
There is a small library in the training room with books on travel, volunteering and teaching in addition to fiction. The staff have a separate office. Outside you can find terraces with a Thai style kitchen, small garden, tennis court and TV with DVD player. We can help you to rent a room in a nearby condo or guesthouse if you prefer more privacy. Volunteers may also stay overnight at the Boys' Home to socialize more with the staff and boys. Lunch is provided at the Home and dinner at the Center during the week. Options for transport to the home from Nong Khai town are either by tuk tuk and bus, or by motorbike. A tuk tuk from the Center to the bus station is 20 baht, and the bus also costs 20 baht. Motorcycle rental costs around 200 baht per day. Note that the cost of transport is not included in the fee.
