Welcome to the final edition of our What's On guide for 2018 which you will find packed full of a huge diverse range of events coming to OPEN. AS WE HEAD INTO our busiest period of the year we have some some great events to celebrate both Halloween and Christmas. Not to mention our annual fundraising dinner taking place on Thursday 1st November which this year will celebrate 250 years of the circus. In this edition you can read all about how to nominate a young person for a Norfolk Youth Award (page 5) and discover that we are proud sponsors of Old Catton Tigers U11’s Football Team (see page 4). Earlier this year we launched our first official publication - OPEN Creatives Anthology - featuring literary work by our young people (see page 15), and our Youth Team have also been very busy writing a script and music for our very own version of Dickens A Christmas Carol which will be performed on Wednesday 19th December (see page 16 for more information). For more information on everything we have going on within the venue and to book tickets - head on over to our website opennorwich.org.uk

ollowing our tradition of providing young people with the opportunities they need to succeed and reach their aspirations, we are proud to announce that we are official kit sponsors of the Old Catton Tigers U11’s Junior Football Club.

The Old Catton Junior FC is one of the largest junior clubs in the area, with over 350 members and 23 registered teams. The club was chosen by OPEN for its aim of “providing organised opportunities for boys and girls from under 6 to under 16 to play football in a safe, supervised and fun environment”, as well as its reputation for high child safety standards. Through sponsoring the team’s kit, OPEN seeks to enable the team to keep providing its young people with training and the opportunity to enjoy their sport to the full. OPEN Youth Trust’s core message is all about supporting young people in their endeavours, so it was an easy decision to sponsor the team.

OPEN Creatives Anthology ince October 2017, a group of young people aged 8-18 have been taking part in a free afterschool group called OPEN Creatives. They launched their first publication - OPEN Creatives Anthology in July. The group have been exploring different forms of writing, creating their own pieces of either poetry or prose.

The children and young people have been encouraged to be as imaginative as possible, with no restrictions on what they can write about or which style they use. As well as creating their own works of creative writing with the guidance of OPEN’s Youth Team, they have been encouraged to share their work with the group through performance. This aspect of the session is designed to “develop the participants spoken word capability” and give them constructive feedback in order to improve their pieces. This remains true to OPEN’s core aim – to give children essential skills that they need to achieve their goals in life, whilst also nurturing also their passions and hobbies. Copies of the anthology are available to purchase at a cost of £7.50, available from our Box Office or the Book Hive on London Street. All profits from the sale of this publication go back into OPEN Youth Trust, where it will be able to fund more opportunities like this one, thereby facilitating the creativity and aspirations of young people.
