Over the Summer holidays we are running the following two day workshops suitable for all 7 - 12 year olds. Each activity costs £30 for the two days and runs from 10.00am - 3.00pm with the option of an early drop-off from 9.00am at an additional charge of £2.50 per day. Spaces are limited and some bursary places are available upon written request. Week 1 - 26th - 29th July Introduction to Climbing Tuesday 26th & Wednesday 27th July An introduction to the adrenaline filled world of indoor rock climbing! Learn how to use the climbing equipment, and develop techniques, skills, teamwork and trust. Our instructors will be with you every step of the way and will get you reaching great heights in no time at all! All equipment is provided. Marvellous Music Making (NEW) Tuesday 26th & Wednesday 27th July Do you like to get creative with music from the very beginning? In this fun workshop, you will get the chance to make musical instruments with the help of our experts, and then show off your musical creations when you road test them to the group, as well as explore music in general. Suitable for all abilities, whether you can play an instrument or not! Let’s Do Science Tuesday 26th & Wednesday 27th July Fancy being the next Einstein? Ever tried turning a solid into a liquid with nothing but your bare hands? Want to know how to cut an ice cube in half without smashing it? Well now you can with our science workshop. All equipment and materials are provided, all we ask is you turn up in clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. Discover Street Dance Tuesday 26th & Wednesday 27th July A chance to learn a variety of street dance techniques and discover more about dance. Develop your creativity, let your body move in new, exciting and fun ways. You will learn amazing choreography and develop your own artistic expression.

Phenomenal Photography Tuesday 26th & Wednesday 27th July Love Photography? Well during this workshop you will get the chance to develop your creativity, meet new friends, have a lot of fun and discover how to push your imagination to its limits. Create montages, books, mess around with colours, distort imagery and run riot with image making. Learn how to use equipment, compose images, play with techniques and even create a pop up gallery to showcase your work! All equipment is provided. Intermediate Climbing Thursday 28th & Friday 29th July This workshop is aimed at those who have completed an Introduction to Climbing at OPEN or a similar workshop elsewhere, giving you the next step to progress your climbing ability and knowledge. Improve your climbing techniques including hand and foot placements, body positioning and climbing movement. The workshop also includes rope and equipment management, route grades, the history and etiquette of climbing. Stop Frame Animation Thursday 28th & Friday 29th July Ever fancied creating your very animation like Wallace and Gromit or The Lego movie? Well why not try this workshop and develop your very own filmmaking and story boarding skills. Work with digital equipment and software to create your own movie by using the props, models and scenery that you have created. You may even want to make a cameo appearance yourself! This workshop promises to let your imagination run wild!


Fabulous Food Thursday 28th & Friday 29th July Are you the next Jamie Oliver, Mary Berry or a future Masterchef Champion? This workshop includes practical cookery, games, taste-tests and much more. You will learn a variety of cooking techniques creating both a savoury and a sweet dish! Participants are provided with all ingredients and utensils needed, just bring an apron. Discover Drama Thursday 28th & Friday 29th July A chance to learn a variety of new drama techniques such as improvisation, script reading, character building and much more. This is a perfect time to discover more about the art of drama. Clever Cluedo (NEW) Thursday 28th & Friday 29th July Based on the popular game of Cluedo, this workshop allows you to enjoy the excitement of a murder mystery in OPEN. Who gets killed? What happened and more importantly can you solve the crime?

Week 2 - 2nd - 5th August Abseil and Ascending Tuesday 2nd & Wednesday 3rd August Test your stamina by hauling your own body weight to the top of our climbing wall using our ascending kit. Learn to abseil from the top of our climbing wall, with expert tuition from our instructors. We guarantee you will feel a terrific sense of achievement when your feet touch the ground. Suitable for those who have completed our Introduction & Intermediate Climbing workshops or similar climbing experience. School of Rock Tuesday 2nd & Wednesday 3rd August Learn to play simple lines on electric guitar, bass, drums and keyboard then develop your ideas on computers to produce a finished ROCK anthem!!! Let your musical expression run wild and you also get the chance to perform live in a mini showcase.

Writer’s Dream (NEW) Tuesday 2nd & Wednesday 3rd August Love to write? Do you see yourself as the next Jacqueline Wilson or want to learn more about writing? Well this workshop is just for you. Learn skills of writing fairytales, short stories and rhymes and to top it off you can share your new skill with friends and family in a mini showcase at the end of the second day. Fabulous Fashion Recycling Tuesday 2nd & Wednesday 3rd August Are you a fashionista, unique and stand out in a crowd? Join this workshop and learn how to individualise fashion items taking up-cycling to the next level! Gamers’ Paradise (NEW) Tuesday 2nd & Wednesday 3rd August Do you love computer games? This is the ultimate workshop giving you the chance to design your own computer game. Learn about the competitive world of computer games and let your imagination run wild in the world of game design. Introduction to Climbing Thursday 4th & Friday 5th August (See 26th & 27th July for information) Stop Frame Animation Thursday 4th & Friday 5th August (See 26th & 27th July for information) Get Into Gardening (NEW) Thursday 4th & Friday 5th August Love the great outdoors and have green fingers? On this two day gardening workshop you will get the opportunity to do some planting, learn basic gardening skills and have fun. All equipment is provided. Please note that children will be going off site for part of this workshop but will be supervised at all times. Musical Theatre Thursday 4th & Friday 5th August Do you love musical theatre? Love to perform? If so get involved in this workshop where you will learn singing, dancing and acting techniques. At the end of the workshop you will have the opportunity to showcase your talents in a live performance!


Wizard Academy (NEW) Thursday 4th & Friday 5th August Do you love Harry Potter? Want to tune into your wizardly ways, make potions and wands? Now you can on this two day Hogwarts themed workshop. Learn to write your own spells, create wizard stories and most importantly have fun!

Week 3 - 9th - 12th August Intermediate Climbing Tuesday 9th & Wednesday 10th August (See 28th & 29th July for information) Pop Party Tuesday 9th & Wednesday 10th August Discover the process of learning to sing a song and arrange vocal parts. On day two, spend time in our fully equipped recording studio and experience performing, recording and producing your own hit! Let’s Sing (NEW) Tuesday 9th & Wednesday 10th August Have you ever wanted to learn how to write songs? Have that musical skill but can’t show it? In this lyrical workshop we will show you how to compose and write your own songs, and perform them to a live audience! Come and show us what hidden talents you may possess! Circus Skills Tuesday 9th & Wednesday 10th August Do you love the circus? Learn the fun of the fair on our circus skills workshop! No experience necessary as we will teach you everything from the basics and then give you plenty of time to let your creativity shine. Magazine Creation (NEW) Tuesday 9th & Wednesday 10th August You’ve seen them on the shelves, and now it’s your turn to be the editor and create your own publication. Using a mixture of photography, writing articles, deciding on different features and more, this course is your chance to make an amazing and original publication. May The Force Be With You Thursday 11th & Friday 12th August The Force has been awoken and OPEN is looking for new Jedis to come together to help defeat the Darkside! Create your own lightsaber and mask and relive some classic Star Wars scenes with your new fellow Jedis. Ghostacular (NEW) Thursday 11th & Friday 12th August Enjoy two spooktacular days as you invent your own ghost stories, create costumes, music and sound effects. Then enact the characters you have created as your parents take part in an interactive ghost tour around OPEN! Discover Cheerleading (NEW) Thursday 11th & Friday 12th August Do you want to learn how to perform or cheer on your favourite team? We will teach you tricks and moves you can use to entertain an audience and support your sport! Music Video Making Thursday 11th & Friday 12th August This workshop gives you the chance to star in your own music video. Learn how to design a storyboard, play with props, create scenes, sing and lip sync your heart out to become your very own pop star. You will also get a copy of your polished and edited version of the music video.

Week 4 - 16th - 19th August Introduction to Climbing Tuesday 16th & Wednesday 17th August (see 26th & 27th July for information) Radio Daze (NEW) Tuesday 16th & Wednesday 17th August Produce your very own radio show including voiceover, sound effects and mood music! Present and produce the show and make your own finished download!


Let’s Get Active Tuesday 16th & Wednesday 17th August Do you like sports, running around, playing games and meeting new friends? Within this exciting and action packed workshop you will participate in a variety of inclusive sports, as well as group games. Learn new skills and try new sports with our enthusiastic instructors. Short Film Creation (NEW) Tuesday 16th & Wednesday 17th August Want to try your hand at directing, producing or acting whilst learning about the film industry? This workshop will allow you to create, script and edit a short film helping you expand your skills whilst having fun! Mega Minecrafts (NEW) Tuesday 16th & Wednesday 17th August Do you love all things Minecraft and also making things? Then this is the course for you! Using a range of different materials you will make Minecraft crafts, cubes, characters and all things creative. This course is really for everyone who loves getting arty and crafty. Intermediate Climbing Thursday 18th & Friday 19th August (See 28th & 29th July for information) Wizard Academy (NEW) Thursday 18th & Friday 19th August (See 28th & 29th July for information) Superhero Fun (NEW) Thursday 18th & Friday 19th August Are you the next Stan Lee? Ever wanted to be your own Batman? Or even create your own Superhero? Well now you can with this new workshop where you will learn new skills, develop your comic creating knowledge and also gain a Discover Arts Award! Jazzy Jewellery Thursday 18th & Friday 19th August This creative jewellery making workshop will give you the chance to customise and make your own jewellery that will dazzle everyone that sees it! Everything is included but if you want to bring something to customise then feel free. The workshop is full of colour, sparkles and more; learn different techniques for making bracelets, necklaces,

rings and earrings as well as the chance to create and design your very own headphones. You will also have the chance to complete your Discover Arts Award! Fantastic Fairytales (NEW) Thursday 18th & Friday 19th August This musical fantasy workshop is based on the film ‘Disney Descendants’ and will give you the chance to get creative and recreate your favourite scenes and perform some of the much loved songs from the film.

Week 5 - 23rd - 26th August Let’s Do Science Tuesday 23rd & Wednesday 24th August (See 26th & 27th July for information) Abseil and Ascending Tuesday 23rd & Wednesday 24th August (See 2nd & 3rd August for information) Breaks & Beats Tuesday 23rd & Wednesday 24th August Love iPads and like making music? This workshop will let you discover the sounds, breaks and beats that can be made using iPads and Macs and develop your ideas into your own finished piece. Maybe you’d like to add your own lyrics and vocals? Strictly Dancing (NEW) Tuesday 23rd & Wednesday 24th August It’s nice to see you, to see you nice! Want to learn how to dance an elegant, passionate tango? Or how about a lively, cheeky Charleston? Get your groove on for a Saturday night with this Strictly themed workshop! Party Inferno (NEW) Tuesday 23rd & Wednesday 24th August Want to take part in a two day birthday party even if it’s not anyone’s birthday? Here at OPEN we love the fun of a party. Take part in the exciting element of the party prep such as decorations, play a range of exciting party games and top it all off with a disco! You will have so much fun you’ll wish you could do it all over again the next day!


Pop Party Thursday 25th & Friday 26th August (see 9th & 10th August for information) Movie Making Thursday 25th & Friday 26th August Are you the next Steven Spielberg or Johnny Depp? Want to direct or star in your very own film? Well now you can and what’s more you’ll learn how to write a storyboard, direct and edit your film ... lights camera, action! Minion Madness Thursday 25th & Friday 26th August Do you love everything Minion? Want to learn how to speak Banana language and create your own Minion story? Get creative and have crazy fun with this workshop! You will even get a Discover Arts Award!

May the Force be with You Thursday 1st & Friday 2nd September (See 11th & 12th August for information) Discover Norwich (NEW) Thursday 1st & Friday 2nd September Do you live in or near the beautiful city of Norwich but don’t know much about it? With Discover Norwich will give you the chance to take part in fun activities around the city centre, learn about its heritage as well as explore places you might not usually venture to. Please note that this workshop will be offsite however children will be supervised at all times.

Shadow Puppets (NEW) Thursday 25th & Friday 26th August A chance to create your own puppets, make a story with your characters and showcase your tale for friends and family. Let your imagination run wild or base your story on something true or maybe a bit of both? Discover how far your mind stretches in this magical and fantastical workshop. Dance Fusion (NEW) Thursday 25th & Friday 26th August Ever wanted to give dance a go or fancied developing your moves further? Learn the art of dance in this energetic workshop. All equipment is provided, just bring comfy trainers and clothes.

OPEN also runs a term time programme of activities for children and young people... ...and for 11 – 19 year olds there is a ‘Drop in’ social hub providing young people with a safe environment to meet friends, hang out and have fun. Youth workers are on site to offer support and advice and to help them build their self esteem and confidence and guiding them to reach their full potential in life.
