NATIONAL CERTIFICATE IN BUSINESS (FIRST LINE MANAGEMENT) LEVEL 3 Qualification code: NC0743 Level: 3 e, This qualification is for people who are, or are training to be, first line managers (team leaders, supervisors, or charge or hands). People in these roles are likely to be responsible for managing people, resources, or workplace operations, and d may have had little or no formal training. The programme will help formalise your existing knowledge e and competencies, help you gain more skills and develop more effective workplace practices. You will also learn problem solving skills, how to monitor staff performance and nd d manage workplace conflict by building a positive team. QUALIFICATION Once you have successfully completed three courses you can apply to receive the National Certificate in Business (First Line Management) Level 3. Course outlines FLM311 COMMUNICATIONS You will learn how to communicate well with others in your workplace, including how to: · give oral instructions · give and receive feedback · prepare and deliver presentations · present and defend your point of view on any subject. You will also learn the difference between hearing and listening and how to avoid barriers to good communication.. FLM312 LEADERSHIP You will learn the leadership skills required for the effective management of teams and the achievement of business objectives, including: · how to apply different leadership styles to workplace situations · identify roles and responsibilities in a team · build a cohesive team · analyse your team’s behaviour to ensure workplace expectations are met. FLM313 PROBLEM SOLVING You will learn problem-solving skills including: · different examples of how to solve problems · techniques for solving problems · how to use problem-solving techniques every day in a workplace.

You will w i need to be able to read and write well in English so tthat ha you can understand course materials and also submit written assessments. There are criteria that must be met if w r English is not your first language. Your ttutor ut will check the results to assist us in making sure that Open O p Polytechnic course materials have met your needs. The T h assessment is not part of your course of study. International students This qualification is available for international students who are living in New Zealand. It is not available to international students living overseas. If you are an international student residing in New Zealand and studying part-time, you must have: 路 a verified work permit/visa which is valid until the end date te e of the course, and either 路 a Variation of Conditions allowing study at Open Polytechnic, or 路 a letter of authorisation from your employer (on letterhead) d)) confirming that you need to undertake this training as part rtt of your job. International fees must be paid in full at the time of your enrolment. ASSESSMENT This qualification is internally assessed with a mix of real time me e (online) and written assessments. There are no examinations. nss. ENROLMENT This certificate is open for admission throughout the year and each course officially starts on the first Monday of the month you choose for enrolment. You will be advised if additional information is needed to progress your application, and you can usually complete this online during the application process. When your enrolment is confirmed, we will send you a letter with your course start and end dates and where e you can find assessment submission deadlines. STUDY TIME All courses have a credit value which helps you work out how much study time you will need. Allow about 10 hours off study per credit.

COMPUTER REQUIREMENTS You will need to have access to a computer or laptop, preferably with a broadband internet connection. You must also be able to do the following: 路 send and receive emails 路 access and contribute to the Online Campus discussion forum 路 download documents. Note: We use Microsoft software and the extra resources we provide online for your study are in this format. If you need to buy software, you can buy it at a special academic price from most software retailers (generally about utt a third of the normal retail cost). You will need proof you have been accepted into a course. Your letter confirming your enrolment will provide this. There is a list of Microsoft software retailers at microsoft.com/nz/retailers We also recommend that you install virus protection software. Other requirements You will need access to a recording device such as a web camera, cellular phone or dictaphone for a role play assessment.
