WELCOME TO OPEN POLYTECHNIC Whether you are looking to improve your career prospects, or learn something new, we can help you achieve your goal. We specialise in open learning – learning that gives you more freedom to decide what you study and where you study. Our courses are specifically designed for delivery by distance, which means you can fit your study around your life. And just because you are learning by distance, doesn’t mean you have to do it alone. You will have access to your tutors and lecturers by email or phone and to other students studying the same course through the Online Campus, the student support section of our website. It is our goal to make sure that you enjoy your study and that you succeed. So welcome to learning for today’s world, and congratulations on taking up the challenge of further education.

Introduction We offer a range of business qualifications for people who want to get started in a business career or who want to start artt or run a small business of their own. Qualifications include two certificates and diplomas which are offered in conjunction with the New Zealand Institute of Management (NZIM), a professional body that promotes excellence in management. The NZIM certificates in this brochure are designed to help you develop the knowledge and skills relevant for business today. They will also prepare you for further study, such as the NZIM Diploma in Management and the NZIM Diploma in Management (Advanced).

NZIM CERTIFICATE IN SMALL BUSINESS MANAGEMENT Qualification code: OP3131 Level: 4 The NZIM Certificate in Small Business Management is for people seeking practical skills to start or operate a small to medium sized business. You will learn how to find and keep your market niche, maintain cash flow and profitability, y, identify and control costs, employ and manage staff, and keep your business at the right size. QUALIFICATION Once you have successfully completed four compulsory courses and four elective courses you can apply to receive the Level 4 NZIM Certificate in Small Business Management. nt.. NZIM will send you a statement of achievement as you complete each course. Note: You must complete this qualification within 10 yearss of commencement.

NZIM CERTIFICATE IN MANAGEMENT Qualification code: PA0886 Level: 4 The NZIM Certificate in Management is for people who would like the skills to prepare them for a career in management or for those who would like to move up the career ladder into a management position. It will give you improved organisational and people skills and will help you move into a first line management, team leader or supervisory management position. QUALIFICATION Once you have successfully completed four compulsory courses and four electives you can apply to receive the Level ve el 4 NZIM Certificate in Management. NZIM DIPLOMA IN MANAGEMENT Once you have successfully completed your NZIM certificate, you can apply to enrol in the NZIM Diploma in Management. The diploma consists of six courses which are selected from courses offered under our New Zealand Diploma in Business or Bachelor of Business qualifications.. Upon successful completion of the NZIM Diploma in Management you can work towards the NZIM Diploma in Management (Advanced). This diploma is made up of eightt courses selected from either the New Zealand Diploma in Business or Bachelor of Business qualifications. To be awarded these qualifications, you will need to apply directly to NZIM and pay the prescribed fees. Note: You must complete these qualifications within 10 years of commencement. ASSESSMENT A S Both B o certificates are internally assessed and the majority involve case studies. An overall grade is awarded for each in nv course. c o Iff yyour course has two assessments, you must obtain minimum grade of D (40%) in any assessment, and a am minimum of C (50%) overall to pass each course. m i Iff yyour course has three assessments you must obtain a minimum grade of C (50%) for every assessment to pass the m i course. c o ENROLMENT E N Both B o certificates are open for admission throughout the year and a n each course officially starts on the first Monday of the month you choose for enrolment. m o Please note: There are limited places available for these P le qualifications each year. q u You Y o need to enrol online from our website. When your enrolmentt is confirmed, we will send you a letter with your course start and end dates and where you can find assessment submission deadlines. Loans, allowances and other funding Student loans and allowances are administered by StudyLink. We recommend that you apply for a student loan at least four weeks before the commencement of yourr study. We cannot confirm your enrolment or send your course materials until your fees have been paid. Financial assistance We have a fund to help students who are in financial need and have no other option for financial support. This fund is available for course fees and/or set textbooks. Note: We use Microsoft software and the extra resources we provide online for your study are in this format. 9
