This report reviews fiscal year 2016 grant-making of the National Foundation on the Arts and Humanities (NFA-H). We found that well-heeled, public charities such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art take hundreds of millions of dollars in public funding annually. Particularly, charitable organizations with at least $1 million each in assets received $143 million last year. Those organizations included universities with billion-dollar endowments including Harvard, Yale, Northwestern, Notre Dame and the University of Michigan.
