Once I confirmed Catherine was interested, the conversation quickly turned to selecting additional repertoire to fill out a sixty-minute program. We instantly began naming countless great songs by the French composer Francis Poulenc, we shared a long list of our favorite cabaret songs from the 1930’s and 1940’s, and we spoke about how French cabaret influenced the witty humor found in American composer William Bolcom’s Cabaret Songs.
At a time when we are overwhelmed by the challenges of the world around us, it has been a pleasure to work with Catherine Cook, David Lefkowich, Sahar Nouri, our production team, and Rocky Mountain Public Media to create a program that is filled with pure joy, humor, and a good measure of silliness. I hope you enjoy this Opera Colorado Amplified program and I look forward to sharing more music and opera with you this year.
