YOUNG ARTISTS CHERITY KOEPKE

The Young Artists are a vital part of Opera Colorado and bring opera to thousands of people in the Rocky Mountain Region each season. They perform in schools, community centers and other venues across the State and will be featured in the Student Matinée of Falstaff. Their eight-month residency in Denver includes training and coaching from artistic staff and guest artists.

IS A BRACELET AS TRUSTY AS A GLASS SLIPPER? FIND OUT IN THIS OPERA! Inspired by the traditional fairytale, Rossini’s Cinderella has a bit of a twist. The story follows a young woman forced to act as a servant to her wicked stepfather and two stepsisters. Meanwhile, it is announced that Prince Ramiro is looking to marry and will travel from house to house seeking his beautiful bride. Immediately taken by Cinderella, he falls in love with her and eventually must use her bracelet to find his way back to her. COST: $600 FOR ONE PERFORMANCE, $700 FOR TWO BACK-TO-BACK PERFORMANCES

JUST WHEN NEMORINO THINKS HE HAS WON HER, THE DASHING SERGEANT BELCORE ARRIVES AND SETS HIS SIGHTS UPON ADINA. Nemorino asks a traveling salesman to sell him a powerful elixir of love that will show Adina that Nemorino is the one. Romance and comedy ensue as Adina tries to choose her true love. Set in old-west Colorado, this is a perfect way to incorporate local history into your curriculum!

OF ALL THE FINE ARTS, OPERA IS THE MOST COLLABORATIVE AND OUR IN-SCHOOL WORKSHOPS ARE PROOF. Taught by Opera Colorado’s Teaching Artists, these fun and informative workshops integrate opera into classroom lessons and apply to a wide variety of subjects including Performing Arts, Communication, Interpersonal Skills, Shakespeare and much more. IN A TRUNK COST: $100 MAKE OPERA COME ALIVE! This season, Opera Colorado is offering three Opera in a Trunk programs: Cinderella, The Elixir of Love, and Opera for Beginners. Each trunk is full of learning materials, costumes, props, and activities. A study guide supplements learning and prepares students for seeing a performance. OPERA COLORADO’S IMMERSIVE RESIDENCY PROGRAM FOR SCHOOLS

COST: BEGINS AT $1000 AND VARIES BASED ON PROGRAM. CONTACT OPERA COLORADO FOR MORE INFORMATION. Applications available upon request. Limited availability: only three classes will be accepted to participate for the 2017-2018 school year.

LOOKING FOR A PROGRAM THAT TEACHES CROSS-CURRICULAR SKILLS THROUGH A FRESH AND INNOVATIVE APPROACH? GEN OC IS THE PROGRAM FOR YOU! This unique residency teaches 21st Century Workforce Readiness Skills and is gaining national attention as the future of integrated arts education! An emphasis is place on creativity, critical thinking, problem solving and collaboration. Using opera as the catalyst, participants work closely with industry professionals in one of three tracks: Marketing, Page to Stage or Lit 2 Lyric. Teaching Artists guide you through every part of the process, and each program is tailored to fit the specific needs, goals and curriculum of your school or classroom.

TRACK OPTIONS MARKETING: Students create original materials to market an Opera Colorado production to their peers. AGE TO STAGE: Students write, produce and perform their own original piece inspired P by a literary source. LIT 2 LYRIC: Students take literary text to a new level as they update it into modern song lyrics. GRADE LEVEL: 1ST-12TH GRADE OFFERED: FALL-SPRING

FALSTAFF

COMEDY REIGNS AS FALSTAFF ATTEMPTS TO GET OUT OF DEBT BY COURTING THE RICHEST LADIES IN TOWN. Mrs. Page and Mrs. Ford, recipients of Falstaff’s unwanted attention, plan their revenge, complete with a laundry basket mishap and a fairy attack. Amidst all the chaos, Mrs. Ford’s daughter, Nannetta, sneaks in sweet moments with Fenton, the man she truly loves. Based on the character from Shakespeare’s The Merry Wives of Windsor, Falstaff serves as a great way to connect the performing arts to your language arts and literature curriculum. Stay for an interactive talk-back with the cast and crew following the performance. THE 2017-18 SEASON INCLUDES TWO OPERAS FROM TIMELESS REPERTOIRE AND A WORLD PREMIERE! Get the first glimpse of Opera Colorado’s mainstage operas with a special dress rehearsal performance. Online teacher guidebooks prepare your class for their night at the opera. Enhance your experience by contacting the education department to arrange a pre-performance discussion or post-performance talk-back. A wonderful way to introduce middle and high school students to opera. FOR THE ENTIRE FAMILY! Starring Opera Colorado’s Young Artists, Family Day provides you the opportunity to see both of the company’s touring productions sung in English. Explore the wonders of opera and the Ellie Caulkins Opera House. Come early to enjoy family fun activities and kid-friendly refreshments provided by Kevin Taylor’s at the Opera House.
