Hugh Cranford All-Scholastic Scholarship

The 2020 Hugh Cranford All-Scholastic Team will recognize the academic and community service accomplishments of five junior golfers. Golfers selected receive an exemption into the 2020 Optimist Championship, tournament entry (includes golf, hotel accommodations and meals) and a $1,000 scholarship.

Applicants must be ages 16 to 18 as of July 25, 2020. Candidates must submit a writing sample as well as two letters of recommendation. Applications must be postmarked by April 1, and arrive at Optimist International Headquarters by April 6.

Dear Optimist Member, It is my honor to introduce you to Optimist Junior Golf! We help to develop successful character traits in the future leaders of the world through the challenging and humbling game of golf. Since Optimist International began sponsoring the Junior World Golf Championships in 1968, Optimists have impacted the lives of nearly 25,000 young aspiring golfers. Honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect and a strong work ethic are just a few of the qualities that golf can instill. For this reason, we work tirelessly to create affordable platforms for the best young golfers in the world to display their talents. In 1995, Optimist International split from the Junior World Championships to develop our own event. The Optimist International Junior Golf Championships was born. By running our own tournament, we can host a unique event that corresponds with the values and objectives of Optimist International. As an Optimist, you can be proud of the work that we are doing to assist young people in their journey to becoming successful adults. What can you do to help? We always need volunteers at the Championship as well as in your local area. Your district hosts a qualifying tournament each year. We depend on you for the promotion of these events. These kids play three competitive rounds of golf at one of the world’s premier golf venues: Trump National Doral Miami, Florida. In addition to the highly competitive golf tournament, these kids are also treated to many other activities that will allow for international relationship-building that is truly priceless. The dates of this years’ event are as follows: July 11-16, 2020; Boys 10-11, 12-13 and Girls 10-12 July 16-21, 2020; Boys 14-15 and Girls 13-14 July 21-26 2020; Boys 16-18 and Girls 15-18 As you know, Optimist International relies on our members to make our programs successful.
