The Versatile Drummer contains 31 drum kit solos have been brought together in one album to celebrate this body of work and the 25th year of the Australian Percussion Eisteddfod.
Congratulations everyone.
I would like to thank you all for your participation in this year’s Australian Percussion Eisteddfod and Drumline Competition.
I would like to thank the performers, adjudicators and parents for their flexibility and patience when Saturday’s solo events ran over time. It’s a testament to the number of competitors, and their extremely high standard of performance that time limits are being pushed to their maximum. Most competitors are now adjusting the playing heights of their instruments so they can perform at their best - a really positive step but one that wasn't accounted for in the scheduling. A special thank you to Alison Pratt who adjudicated an extra section to assist us.
The Drumline and Percussion Ensemble events were again a showcase of the increasingly high standard of performances of the ensembles with exciting repertoire being chosen, composed, arranged and performed.
Special thank you to our business associates for all the wonderful prizes for the ensemble sections, and to the Optimum Staff who went above and beyond, to the staff and support from Barker College and Abbotsleigh School and to all the adjudicators.
It has been a privilege to create and to convene this eisteddfod each year (25 years in all) and I have found it to be a wonderful experience watching the standard of percussion performance improve and have been enriched by the many friendships I have made. It has been a very hard decision for me to step away from the Eisteddfod, but I feel that it has grown to a point where one person cannot execute the event alone. It now needs a village of percussionists to come together as a committee to organise it with volunteers to help across the weekend of events. If you are interested in being involved in planning the future of the eisteddfod, please contact me.
I hope the competitors found this year’s event formative and enjoyable and congratulate you all for entering, preparing your repertoire and performing over the weekend.
