Southend Hospital Charitable Foundation is raising vital funds to improve the delivery of radiotherapy treatment, bettering the lives of patients undergoing cancer treatment in mid and south Essex.
Our aim
The Spotlight Radiotherapy Appeal aims to raise £600,000 to fund ultra-precise, state-of-theart radiotherapy positioning devices which provide set-up and motion management during radiotherapy.
The Surface Guided Radiation Therapy (SGRT) equipment will be available to patients at the Mid and South Essex Cancer centre, Southend Hospital.
It is hoped that by 2025, all patients receiving radiotherapy across mid and south Essex will have access to safer, less invasive, and more precise treatment.
Successful completion of the appeal will ensure that patients undergoing radiotherapy treatment receive the best possible experience in terms of comfort, speed and accuracy.
SGRT - the benefits
Current radiotherapy delivery is too often known to be uncomfortable and claustrophobic, the Spotlight Radiotherapy Appeal will deliver SGRT equipment which:
Delivers greater accuracy
Eliminates the need for permanent placement tattoos
Ends the need for restrictive closed-face masks - known to increase patient anxiety
Improves clinical outcomes and protects non-malignant tissue
Provides non-invasive positioning techniques in the set-up for treatment
Cuts patient treatment time, providing greater patient capacity
Decreases patient and equipment set-up time
