I grew up seeing miracles. As the son of a healing evangelist, I watched my father pray for the sick and saw many people healed by God. Through the years, I have learned to expect God to perform miracles in my life, my family, and my ministry on a regular basis. But many people have not grown up as I did. Many have not had the opportunity to witness miracles as I did. I’ve known people who believe that a miracle must be something that only happens to a few privileged people…and only in the most extreme circumstances. But God’s Word doesn’t say that. In fact, from Genesis to Revelation, the overriding tone of the Bible is one of miracles…of recognizing our need for them on a daily basis…and of the Lord’s willingness to bestow them. The Bible tells us that God is concerned about our daily needs—the ones that seem huge to us, and the small ones too. He is concerned about everything that touches our lives. And He stands ready to meet every need with His miracle-working power. Expectant Faith Creates Miracles Some time ago, we received a call from a woman whose son had been critically injured in a car accident and was paralyzed. After major surgery he was placed in the intensive care unit. The doctors said, “It appears he will never walk again.”

This woman told our Abundant Life Prayer Group prayer partner that she was expecting a miracle for her son’s recovery, and she fully expected him to walk again and even play sports. Our prayer partner prayed with the woman for a mighty miracle, and within a year that young man was completely healed by the power of God. I truly believe expectant faith creates miracles. I have known children who believed that their parents would be delivered from alcoholism or drug addiction, and miracles happened. I have known parents who believed for miracles in their children and have seen tremendous results from the Lord because they did. Even when I personally ran from God as a young man, my mother said to me, “Son, you will never get away from my prayers.” She held on to her faith and would not turn loose until one day as a teenager I fully committed my life to Jesus Christ. The prayers and expectant faith of my parents brought me to God. Expecting Is the Beginning Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them (Mark 11:24). My grandparents held on to their faith for my father’s healing from tuberculosis even when other people had given up hope. One day my grandmother went to the grocery store. When she walked in, it was obvious she was in tears. The store clerk said, “Oh, Mrs. Roberts, has Oral died?”

“No,” my grandmother replied. “Why do you ask that?”

My dad said, “Is He, Jewel?”

“I saw you crying,” he said.

She firmly replied, “Yes!”

She said, “I’m not crying because I’m sad, but because I’m happy. I believe God is going to heal my son and someday he will preach the Gospel.”

Not long after that, my uncle Elmer came and said, “Oral, there’s a man holding healing services in town, and people are getting healed. I’m going to drive you there to be prayed for.”

What faith! I believe that much of my father’s healing can be traced back to the expectant faith of my grandparents, who continued day by day to believe God until my dad was healed. Expectancy is like that. It creates an atmosphere for deliverance and sets the stage for a miracle. It gets people in the right frame of mind. I believe it influences heaven and begins to change things in the natural realm. My grandparents protected the atmosphere of faith and expectancy in their home. They would not allow anyone into my dad’s room who would not go into a faith agreement for his healing. His brothers and sisters were in faith too. One day my aunt Jewel came and said, “Oral, God is going to heal you.” That’s expectation!

You see, it was the expectant faith in the people who surrounded my father that stirred his own dormant faith to believe that, although he had been bedfast for five months and the doctors could do no more, he still could receive a miracle touch from God and be healed. And as that man of God laid his hands on Dad that night, my father was healed! In a moment’s time, the tuberculosis was literally driven out of his body and he could breathe all the way down. And for extra measure, God also healed the stuttering that had plagued my dad all his life. What his family members were expecting from God is what actually happened!

“GOD IS SO GOOD! His Word says He wants to prosper you in every area of your life. He wants to heal you. He wants you to enter into the fullness of His Holy Spirit. He wants your life to count for His Kingdom, and He has only good plans for your future.” Open Yourself Up to the Possibility of Miracles I constantly hear from people telling me that expecting a miracle caused them to find the best job they ever had, or caused their business to change dramatically for the better, or caused some other blessing to come into their lives. Not long ago I received a testimony from a man who had tried to get a job at a particular company for several years. He wanted to work there because it was close to his home and it paid good wages. Time and again he had applied, but for some unknown reason he couldn’t get the job. One night he was watching me on TV. I was talking about planting a seed of faith and expecting miracles. That night he called to plant a financial seed into our ministry and released his faith, expecting for the job of his dreams to finally come through. The next day he called back to say that the company had offered him the job he wanted! Testimonies like this, and many others like it, encourage me to keep urging people to make room for the miraculous in their lives, and to begin to really expect miracles from the Lord. How Do You Expect a Miracle? When you are expecting, you are looking for something. You believe it is coming to you, and you’re actively watching for it and reaching out for it. Unless you have this expectancy, your miracle may pass you by without your even noticing it. But perhaps when you are expecting your miracle, you can recognize it when it comes and take hold of it. That’s why it is important to expect and keep expecting until you receive. What do we base our expectations on? I believe we should base them on God’s Word. His Word is His guide for what He wants to do for us as we obey Him and use our faith. When you have a need, find out what the Bible says about it. Let your expectations rest on what God has already said about your situation. He is not a man that He should lie (Numbers 23:19). He keeps His Word. So, you can trust Him to heal you according to 1 Peter 2:24… provide for you according to Luke 6:38…guide

you in the way you should go according to Isaiah 48:17… and He promises so much more to you too! Once you know what to believe for, according to His Word, begin to look for His goodness to show up in your life. Speak His Word out of your mouth and let it build your faith as you wait expectantly for God’s power to fill your life. Don’t let negative circumstances and appearances influence you. Instead, keep your mind and heart fixed on the truth of what God has said, not on what your circumstances are saying. Allow Him to show you how He has power in any situation you may be facing, and how His miracle-working power can turn your situation around for your good. You can expect His miracle-working power by knowing deep down in your heart that He wants what is best for you (3 John 2)… that no circumstances can separate you from His great love for you (Romans 8:38–39)… and that nothing is impossible if you continue to believe God until you receive what you need (Matthew 17:20). God is so good! His Word says He wants to prosper you in every area of your life. He wants to heal you. He wants you to enter into the fullness of His Holy Spirit. He wants your life to count for His Kingdom, and He has only good plans for your future (Jeremiah 29:11). Let’s Pray for You Right Now Now, let’s join our faith together and believe God for the miraculous to begin opening up more and more in your life every day: Father, You were a miracle-working God in the Bible…and I believe You still are today. You’re still performing miracles, healing people, and caring for their needs today, because You don’t change. You want the best for all Your children. Right now, I open myself up to Your supernatural power in a new way, and I make room for the miraculous in my life, as I begin to truly expect miracles from You. Thank You for Your saving, healing, delivering power…and right now I receive that miracle-working power into my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

No More Pain in My Arm I had a problem with my rotator cuff, and had surgery earlier in the year. After surgery, I began to experience great pain that would not go away. was lying in bed one night studying my notes, getting ready to preach in a church the next morning, when the Lord spoke to me. He redirected me regarding the message I was going to preach. I felt God was telling me to minister a much deeper message than I was planning for—a message about the critical importance of our faith.

To live in this day and age, we’ve got to live deeper in the Word. I believe we have to take the Word of God to a higher level in our lives to overcome today’s challenges. Our faith must be active in order for us to walk in victory and success in this life.

So, in order to please God, we must be operating in faith—no faith, no pleasing God. With faith, we can please Him; without it, we can’t. So, then the Lord told me, “Grab your highlighter.” At first I thought it was the strangest thing I’ve ever heard! But what happened next was so cool! He told me to highlight the first few words of each verse of Hebrews 11, beginning at verse 1, and going all the way down to verse 32. Then after I highlighted everything, He told me to read just the highlighted parts aloud. Here is what it said:

“Now faith, through faith, by faith Abel, by faith Enoch, So the Lord led me to Hebrews 11:1, which tells us without faith, by faith Noah, by faith Abraham, by faith, by that faith is the substance of things hoped for, and the faith, by faith, by faith, by faith Sarah, by faith, through evidence of things not seen. Faith is that realm that has faith, by faith, through faith, having all died in faith, by substance. Even though we don’t see the physical evifaith, through faith, by faith, by faith, by faith, by faith dence in the natural realm, there’s another realm. If we look very carefully at the way this chapter of Hebrews is presented, we see the people’s faith before we even see who they are and what they experienced. I believe God did it that way on purpose because He wants us to understand that no matter what we’ve done, and no matter what is going on, as long as we operate in faith and operate according to His Word, He can honor our faith. God said four times, both Old Testament and New Testament, “The just shall live by, and according to, their faith.” So, faith must be incredibly important to God. And He tells us in Romans 12:3 that He’s given every person the measure of faith. You see, faith is a belief system. We can believe right or we can believe wrong, but either way, we’re still believing. We are still choosing to make a decision based on our belief system. We can take that belief system and believe wrong and get into fear; or we can take that belief system and believe according to the Word of God and get into the miraculous. That’s where I want to be! In the same passage of scripture where God tells us that He’s given every person the measure of faith, He also tells us that what matters most is what we do with it. I believe when God places something in us, He also places that responsibility in us—the responsibility to take the right corresponding action. You see, faith without the proper corresponding action is as good as dead ( James 2:20). If we read the doom and gloom in the newspaper and on the nightly news, the corresponding action in the natural realm is to get into fear. But when we absorb the Word of God and hide it in our hearts, we can begin to take the right action. When we get a phone call with a bad report, we won’t have time to go from Genesis to Revelation. What is in our heart immediately comes up.

I like to think of it as if we are like a lemon. What’s inside of us will get squeezed out when we are placed under pressure. So, I believe it’s time to ask ourselves, “What do I have hidden in my heart—God’s Word, or the doom and gloom of this world?” We have to make the choice to fill our hearts with God’s Word so that when we are squeezed by the pressures of life, what comes out is the Word of God and its life-giving power! I believe we’re living in an age when we need to come together as a body of believers and say, “Devil, you may say this on this newscast, and you may say that in the newspaper, but in the Name of Jesus, I’m going by what the Word of God says!” We don’t need dead faith… we don’t need wishy-washy faith… we don’t need lost and missing-in-action faith. We need believers to stand up in unity and active faith and say, “This may be what the world says, but this is what the Word says! And I’m choosing to live by the Word.” My friends, if your faith is lacking today, I encourage you to fill up your heart with the Word of God and allow Him to strengthen and empower your faith to move mountains and see miracles in your life, in Jesus’ Name!

My Healing Came at a Richard Roberts Meeting I had been suffering with a thyroid issue and a painful goiter problem for about two years. I attended a Richard Roberts Healing Meeting in Irvine, California, where he laid hands on me and prayed for my healing. I received my healing by faith that night. When I went back to the doctor, the thyroid and goiter problems were completely gone. I am healed.

My Mother Is Well! My mother was in the Intensive Care Unit with pneumonia and an infection of the blood, bladder, and urinary tract. The doctor only gave her a 50% chance to live. A Seed Sown for Breakthrough Dear Richard and Lindsay, I give God all the glory because He has done more than I could ask or think! Here is my story. I lost my job two and a half years ago, and since then I’ve had a really hard time even finding a part-time job to take care of my needs. There were days I dreaded getting up in the morning because I had to face the same routine: Get on the computer, search for jobs, send out resumes, and then wait for the phone to ring. The calls were few and far between, and all I could do was cry out to God for His mercy. I watch your television program, The Place for Miracles, each night at my home in Toronto, Canada. Back in February, Richard, you challenged your viewers to pray, believe, and receive a breakthrough for 2012 by sowing a seed-faith gift into the Oral Roberts Ministries. I felt a leading from the Holy Spirit on the inside of me that I needed to show my faith, just like the woman with the issue of blood who reached out in faith, touched the hem of Jesus’ garment, and was healed. I felt that taking my step of faith by planting my seed was the key to unlock His deliverance and blessing in my life. I took all I could give at the time, which was $45, and I wrote my check and sent it the next day to your ministry. I stretched out my faith to God that my seed for breakthrough would produce the harvest that I needed—a good job.

By the end of February, I had a part-time job, for which I was very grateful. I was able to get out of the house a little, and I had some money to pay tithes again. But that was only an appetizer to the main course that God was going to provide for me. Within a month, I received a call from a marketing company just ten minutes away from me that was looking for someone with my experience and credentials. I interviewed a couple of times, and I’m so thrilled to say that I just finished my first full week of work with that company! God has given me a great job—a management position that I thought was out of my reach. It’s just ten minutes from my home, with a good salary and my benefits started immediately. That almost never happens. Richard and Lindsay, your prayer of agreement and challenge to sow my financial seed for breakthrough has me in amazement. I am marveling at what God has done because I acted in faith on what He said to me through you. I thank you both, and I will continue to support your ministry. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

nd he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also A shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

In the first chapter of the Book of Psalms, God sets out several basic principles to follow in order to have a blessed and happy life. I believe we ought to pay particular attention to this chapter because it shows that God intends for us to be blessed. What to Avoid, What to Pursue The first thing God tells us in Psalm 1 is what to avoid in order to be blessed (one translation uses the words happy, fortunate, prosperous, and enviable). He says that we are not to seek or to follow the plans of those who do not serve God. Nor are we to hinder them from coming to Him by living an ungodly lifestyle while claiming to follow the Lord. We’re also told to avoid becoming scoffers and critics— that is, becoming the kind of people who are so miserable that nothing ever suits them. After God tells us what to avoid, He tells us what to pursue in order to keep His blessing on our lives. He says that we’re to delight ourselves in His Word and meditate on the Scriptures day and night. Remember, we live in a world that is constantly pulling on us to do ungodly things that cannot be blessed. It is essential to choose to do right. And when we meditate on God’s Word, Psalm 1:3 says that we shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither. His Word directs us in what is right, and it gives stability to our lives in what can be an unstable world. God Can Divinely Place You Psalm 1:3 says that we can be planted. In other words, God can place us where He wants us to be. That’s an important point. Many Christians don’t know that there is a particular place where God wants them. They’re doubtful and wandering, always asking, Should I be here or somewhere else?

But God says that if we delight ourselves in His Word, He would not only plant us but He would plant us by the rivers of water—that special place of richness where many rivers come together, where there will always be an abundance of life-giving water. Nature’s Power Source A tree needs an abundance of water to live, grow, and produce fruit. And that’s the next promise. God says that the godly man bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither (v. 3). I recently made a study of leaves with biologists and botanists, and discussed with Jewish rabbis what the

I discovered that the leaf of a tree is like a little green factory that produces food for the tree. It is actually the power source of the tree. The leaf connects itself with the water source, scoops up the water, and spreads it throughout the tree. In other words, the leaf keeps the tree alive. God’s Power Source What keeps us alive spiritually is the living water Jesus referred to in John 7:37–38. The Bible says that on the feast day called the Day of Pentecost, the people overturned barrels of water and let the water run down the temple steps. Then they danced in it, rejoicing and praising God for a successful harvest. Watching the people celebrate, Jesus said, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me…out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water (vv. 37–38). Then the Bible says, This spake he [Christ] of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified (v. 39). In other words, Jesus planned from the beginning that when we believe on Him, we would receive the Holy Spirit to live inside of us as our Helper. And with the Holy Spirit in us, out of our bellies—our inner man where speaking in tongues begins—would flow rivers of living water. In essence, Jesus said, “I will not leave you as orphans. It will be as if I am there with you in the flesh.” People often ask me why I pray in tongues. I pray in tongues because the mysteries of life are too much for me and the problems are overwhelming. I pray in

tongues because I don’t know how to pray as I ought every time, but the Holy Spirit knows. He knows the mind and will of God, and Romans 8:26 says that He intercedes for us with groanings for which there is no equal in human speech. Godly Prosperity The next line of Psalm 1 is amazing to me. It says, Whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. Time and time again, people take this verse out of context and confess it over their lives. But it won’t work that way. According to this Scripture, true prosperity only comes when we do what God is telling us to do. Are we refusing to base our decisions on the advice of ungodly people? Are we avoiding being a stumbling block to sinners? Are we choosing not to be a gossiper, a scoffer, a critic, or a worn-out, miserable person? Are we delighting ourselves in God’s Word and meditating on the Scriptures day and night? Godly prosperity only happens when we do what God’s Word tells us to do…and this includes planting our seeds of faith to God and expecting Him to multiply them back to us in the way we need it the most. Blessed Is the Man… If you are basing your life on the Word of God and following all that He tells you to do, according to Psalm 1, I believe we can make this declaration of faith right now: Thank You, Lord, that You have planted me by the rivers of living water. I bring forth fruit in my season, and my leaf— which is my power source—does not wither. Furthermore, I have the Holy Spirit living in me, and I’m taking up the living water of the Spirit and letting it spread throughout my being. And because I am a child of God who follows Your Word, all that I do can prosper.
