In New Zealand we’ve got a saying about getting things done “with a bit of number eight fencing wire”. What that means is that we’re a nation of resourceful people who like a challenge, and have a positive innovative ‘can do’ attitude. When I first started out hand making wetsuits out of a room in my house I would imagine about where Orca could go. Fast forward 15 years and in recent times we’ve had the last two Ironman World Champions swimming in Orca wetsuits, a man has swum the length of the Amazon in Orca, and fellow New Zealander William Trubridge is free diving to new depths of the ocean in an Orca wetsuit. This year we’ve taken the decision to give back to the ocean that has been so much of the inspiration for the Orca brand. Early in 2009 I met a group of people with a shared interest in protecting the world’s oceans. They’ve formed a group called Project Kaisei, and with the number eight fencing wire spirit, their goal is to work out a way to reduce the impact of some of the estimated 100 million tons of plastic found in the oceans. In addition to the contribution of profi ts to Project Kaisei Orca as a business will be making changes to reduce the impact we make on plastics in the ocean. So many of our products are designed to improve performance and people’s enjoyment of being in the water, and of course for the mammal from which the brand takes its name and inspiration, clean oceans are vital. An essential garment for any triathlete, the 2010 Core Race Suit features a longer in leg seam for increased water coverage. Worn under a full triathlon wetsuit the Orca HeatSeeker will be a valuable addition to every triathlete’s gear bag.

The Hydro Bootie includes Orca’s stretch silicone sole, which provides ‘non slip’ protection and abrasion resistance, and a split-toe design to avoid “rolling” on the foot. Adjustable Velcro closures make this bootie suitable to be worn either over or under your wetsuit.
