COMPRESSION EXPLAINED 1

Compression Explained

Active Compression: Skin tight fabrics like Orca KillaSkn Kompress help to support muscles, reducing muscle oscillation during exercise.

Graduated Compression: The garment uses varying levels of compression to promote increased blood flow towards the heart. The primary benefit of graduated compression is during recovery after exercise, particularly when you are stationary. Orca Killa Kompression tights have higher levels of compression at the base of the legs and calves, reducing up the thighs and towards the heart. So it is not a matter of the higher levels of compression being the best, rather the levels of pressure should be fit for purpose – Orca’s Killa Kompression range is scientifically proven to provide ideal levels of compression for use in rest, race and recovery.

Benefits Orca Killa Kompression

Compression garments help support key muscle groups when your body is moving during any type of exercise. You don’t have to be a professional athlete to benefit from compression wear and Orca Killa Kompression garments can be worn by people of all athletic levels. They also benefit people who may spend long periods of time standing, and for long distance travel. Scientific testing has shown graduated compression is most useful in increasing blood flow from places like your lower legs, so long tights, calf stirrups and socks are ideal. Orca Killa Kompression garments with graduated compression are ideal for pre and post exercise, especially when you are stationary.

Graduated compression zones assist to increase blood flow away from extremities and towards the heart, increasing blood oxygenation, reducing muscle soreness, speed up recovery. During exercise the tight weave 70 denier fabric provides the following benefits: Reduces muscle oscillation Faster removal of lactic acid Reduces fatigue Improved strength and power Improved body temperature control Panel stitching and the Perform Graduated Compression Zone help to stabilise key muscle groups and joints.

Testing Orca commissioned testing by Progressive Technologies

Orca commissioned the respected team of sports scientists at Progressive Technologies (part of Loughbrough University) to assess pressure levels and varify graduation in the Orca Killa Kompression Perform Tight, and compare it with an equivalent competitor product. Progressive used the Salzmann MST pressure measuring device with a British Standardised leg form, as well as a human sample of 5 medium size participants. Overall findings were that Orca Perform Tight consistently provided higher levels of compression (mmHG) than other existing Lycra based compression garments, and that the compression was graduated. Orca compression tights fall within boundaries on non-prescriptive graduated support hosiery, so they are ideal for active use, and pressure exerted is not high enough to inhibit blood flow. Medical grade compression garments are not suitable for active use. Terminology mmHg: millimetre of mercury is a common measure of pressure and relates to the pressure exerted at the base of a column of liquid 1mm high. The higher the number – the greater the level of pressure. Denier: measure of mass density of fibres. With fabric, the higher the denier the tighter the weave, and the better the stretch recovery, meaning it will maintain original fit and compression for longer.
