Editors Note For many years we plug our bodies full of junk...anything from Snickers bars to potato chips to lasagna loaded with cheese. Oh how yummy those things can be. My mouth use to water over a nice juicy burger with diced onions on the bottom bun with ketchup and mayo then the pattie, lettuce, tomato and lastly, the top bun...with a side of curly fries or even regular fries. Then, as the weight loads on and on and on...we decide it is time for a change. Out with the junk and in with the vegetables, fruits and healthy food choices. We begin to exercise and we really work and strive to get a healthy body and maintain one. However, to achieve our ideal weight, size or muscle tone, we have to work hard at it. We have to continue putting good foods in our body that will help us achieve this. We need to exercise and lift weights. We have to treat our bodies well and work toward a new lifestyle change. This is a bit like our spiritual lives. Some of us for years feed our spirit bad things. Or throughout the years we feed our spirit things that we may not even realize are unhealthy for it. We may have friendships that deter our spirit...much like potato chips, we chow on them and don’t realize to the full extend how they affect our bodies. This is why it is so important to surround yourself with good influences. People who will help feed our spirit good things and not malnourish it. For years I had a friend who would bring me problem after problem. She was always negative and after being with her even for a short time, I would be completely drained. I didn’t realize how draining it was on me spiritually. After one Sunday service, I knew that it was time to sever that friendship. Not that I would be rude or mean toward her but I knew that I could no longer spend time with her or be there to hear her every problem. Some friendships we just need to purge for the sake of ourselves! As we walk with God, it is important to read the word of God, to pray and spend time in fellowship. Just like getting a healthy body takes plenty of good foods and exercise, having a healthy spiritual life takes nourishing of the spirit. When we spend time with Him, we may not see immediate results…just as we don’t with our bodies when we are working out. However, over time, we begin to see the results of the changes we are making. We ourselves begin to the see the results generally before others. Our clothes begin to fit looser, we have more energy, etc. As with our spiritual lives, we recognize that we can pray longer, spend time with the maker many times throughout the day, our patience grows, God begins to speak to us regularly or we gain knowledge as we read the Word of God. It is vital to our spiritual health to make these changes, to grow closer to Him. This should be our number one priority. (Continue on Page 10)

The Power of
Togetherness
P
By P. Ted Graves
salms 133:1 “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!” Proverbs 6:1619 “These six things doth The Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: a proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood. An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.” John 13:35 “By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another”. These scriptures send us a very strong message. The Lord wants brethren to be unified. We all face attacks from without the church, but we know that the enemy cannot defeat us. We can only destroy ourselves from within. The Lord in His Word is trying to let us know that “togetherness” is a very powerful tool. On the Day of Pentecost they were in one
mind and one accord. The Lord said in Genesis 11:6 that nothing will be restrained from people that are one. I believe the greatest trick of the devil is to cause brethren NOT to dwell together in unity. We must strive at all costs to work together for the cause of the kingdom. Division is a device of the enemy. His goal is to get us to work against one another. I have seen people become offended and unhappy because they did not get their way. It is times like this that we must learn to submit to leadership and authorities in our lives. As preachers we teach our saints to submit, and it would do us good to “practice what we preach.” I believe it was J.T. Pugh who said, “It is really nice when preachers are Christians.” Do not allow other offended people to drag you into their offense. Bishop Haney taught us not to even read anonymous letters. They are only trying to get you to wonder who the author is, and you spend the next few weeks looking over your shoulder. Is everyone perfect? Does
4 APOSTOLIC ACCENT September 2014
everyone do things just like you would? The answer is no. Just because we don’t agree with everything someone does, does not mean that we can’t have a cooperative and unified spirit. I heard a story of a young mother who was scolding her daughter about the way she was sweeping the floor. The daughter quickly responded, “Is it wrong the way I sweep the floor? Or is it just different?” We must remember that our way is not the only way. We must forgive and look past the faults of others. Do you know why I know this to be true? It’s because I work and cooperate with others that I do not totally agree with. Even the enemies of Israel let go of their differences at times, in order to unify and defeat Israel. How much more as “Christians” should we let go of our differences and unify for the cause of Christ. Please know that I am not referring to doctrine or the plan of salvation. I believe if we take on the character of Christ, we will be focused on the cause of Christ and not on our own way of thinking and doing things.
Here in the Oregon District we have seen our churche’s, pastors and saints come together for a great Family Conference. Tremendous crowds, excellent worship, and anointed preaching resulted in many receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost. There was a tremendous spirit of giving, causing the conference to not only be in the black, but to have a surplus for the next conference. We give God all the praise. The Youth Camp had some rough challenges this year. The youth department felt like it had to be cancelled because of some situations on the campground.
The camp opened up to us two weeks later, with none of the previous obstacles. We were blessed with even more campers than we had the previous year. What a tremendous camp we had, with great preaching by Bro. Ellis, beautiful worship and renewals. Seven campers received the gift of the Holy Ghost for the first time. This only happened because pastors and ministers came together, many sacrificing previous plans, to give the youth of the Oregon District a lifechanging camp. Thank you. Let us join together as one body, that great things may be
accomplished for His Kingdom.â—Š ____________________________

Readiness By Kathleen Vandevendar
“With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the LORD our God to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.” We cannot expect the Lord to bless our efforts unless we are trying our best to follow His Word. Peter talks about abstaining from sinful desires which war against your soul (1 Peter 2:11; “Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;”). We cannot protect our children against battles by putting on them a disguise. We have all been there, trying to go out into the world, trying to pretend we are someone other than who we are. We are children of the king, the light of the world, the salt of the earth. Just when we think we’ve committed ourselves to purity of thought and action. Just when we think we’ve built a mental alter to guard that vital barrier between us and the world, all of a sudden the enemy sneaks in and we are
As our children head back for another year of school, we must instill in them courage. Our children, whether in elementary, junior high, high school or even on into college, need courage to stand and not be a shamed of who they are or what they stand for. We are soldiers in an army, young and old, fighting battles that come our way on a daily basis. We do not have the luxury of being discouraged or giving up, aka “throwing in the towel.” Even though we have heard it for years, “Jesus is coming soon” – sooner than we want to realize. But we must remember something very important that is essential to pass down to this next generation: Our battle is already won, but only if we are true to God and allow him to fight the battles for us. Exodus 14:14 states that, “The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.” Again in 2 Chronicles 32:8, 8 APOSTOLIC ACCENT September 2014
doing battle all over again. Like the Rubenites and the Gadites, they cried out to God during the battle and he answered their prayers because they trusted in Him. 1 Chronicles 5:18-20 tells the story for us: “ 18The sons of Reuben, and the Gadites, and half the tribe of Manasseh, of valiant men, men able to bear buckler and sword, and to shoot with bow, and skilful in war, were four and forty thousand seven hundred and threescore, that went out to the war. 19And they made war with the Hagarites, with Jetur, and Nephish, and Nodab. 20And they were helped against them, and the Hagarites were delivered into their hand, and all that were with them: for they cried to God in the battle, and he was intreated of them; because they put their trust in him.” Teaching our children to cry out to the Lord in battle, in hurt, in overwhelming circumstances and also in VICTORY, will enhance their trust in God as well as build their faith. We cannot afford to wait until the battle is over to cry out to the Lord. We must cry out to him before, during and after our battles. No, we do not feel like praying during our trial or our
battle, but we must plod on, dig our feet into the ground and push forward with JOY. At times our biggest battles are our thoughts that run away with us. As humans, we often have an issue with making a speck into a huge impassable mountain. This is the main reason why we must always bring our thoughts into captivity and get ourselves focused once again on what is right and what is good. 2 Corinthians 10:5 states; “Casting down arguments, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.” There will be times when people will fail you and your family but we must be strong and positive in the Lord, for our children’s s a k e . Whether it is the teachers of a Christian school or one from a public school, there can seem to be division within your families thought process. Never allow your children to hear your dislikes about God’s people or those that have authority over them if they are under their jurisdiction. Within your children, an attitude can be constructed against not only the ministry but all the people of God as well as those in authority. There will come a time when the Lord tries to use that person to encourage your child and your child will not take encouragement because
they have created an attitude against the people of God. In a natural or worldly setting, the public school teacher may be trying to encourage your child or push them on to success in their studies. Not everyone in the public school is an evil person trying to harm your child or what they believe in. In fact, what if we as the church looked at public school as our children’s first mission field…. If we as parents are teaching and training our children the Word of God, the truths that we hold dear, how to trust in God, to know His grace, His mercy and love as well as dependency upon our Lord and savior, our children will be able to stand strong in the public school as a witness for God’s Glory. Here are a few good examples of being a witness to the world around us: 1 Peter 3:15 “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and [be] ready always to [give] an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:” Or in Philippians 2:15 where it states; “That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;” Or in Acts 1:8 it states; “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and
in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” In Matthew 5:16 it states; “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Teach your children to always think of what is good and right; what is pure and of a good report; whatever is kind and honest and to see the good in God’s people. Philippians 4:8 states it well, “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things”. God knows what we are fighting and one thing is for sure, God is on our side. Paul said,

Thank you for Giving to NAM Our “Thanks!” to all who so
faithfully support the North American Missions program with your prayers, physical assistance, and financial efforts. Some of you enter the throne room of God with your prayers for our North American missionaries on a regular basis, and there is nothing you could do which is more effective than this to assist them in their labors. In reality, every time you pray for a North American missionary you are helping them with what needs to be done that day. 1 Corinthians 15:30 (NCV) contains an appeal of Paul to the church of his day and states, “Brothers and sisters, I beg you to help me in my work by praying to God for me.” Thank you for the help you have given through the years with your
prayers. They mean so much to our North American missionaries. Some of you show up for services and help with the music, teaching, and other aspects of what is happening. Your physical presence and laboring together with our North American missionaries this way is a great encouragement to them. Joy fills their hearts and a feeling of relief comes over them when they see you show up to help them carry the load. Thank you for lending your talents and giving of your time to the work of God. “Love & Respect” is a book all married couples should add to their book collection (and read). Eph 5:33 NKJV says, “Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.” This book is based on that scripture and goes into how the husband needs to show & give love to his wife and how the wife needs to show & give respect to her husband. This book can transform your marriage and open your eyes to how your marriage should work. This is an excellent book! There are also workbooks you can get to go along with this...perfect for married couples to go through or for marriage counceling. This book comes on CD as well and is great to listen to on the go! (Back to School Readiness by us in every place.” Then in children! They can be stronger Philippians 4:13 it tells us that we than we are, blessed more than continued) “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God” Hebrews 12:1-2. Our reassurance comes from Psalms 108:13, “with God we will gain the victory and he will trample down our enemies.” We know we will and have experienced defeat, but we have and will experience VICTORY as well! 1 Corinthians 15:57 encourages us; “But thanks [be] to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Then in Romans 8:37 it states; “Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.” Again in 2 Corinthians 2:14 we are encouraged; “Now thanks [be] unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge
can believe and trust in Jesus; “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” There are several scriptures that prove to us that we can be conquerors through Christ! We do not have to be defeated! Our children can live a victorious life in Jesus as well as be a witness of His mercy, love and grace no matter where they are. Sin or defeat does not have to reign in our lives nor our children’s lives. Sin can be dispelled through the blood of the LAMB – through Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection! In Romans 6:14 we are told; “For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.” We cannot leave out Romans 8:1-39 where our children can understand we have an advocate with the father and do not have to feel condemned because they are living a holy life as unto the Lord; [There is] therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus,
who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. What an exciting day to be an Apostolic Pentecostal Child of God with the Power of the Holy Ghost that dwells within our

David Reynolds,
We Need ‘Boots on the Ground’! America is now tired of War … we have been in conflicts since World War I –‘The war to end all wars’. We put ‘boots on the ground’ in World War II, Korea, Viet Nam, Kuwait, and Iraq. Our President is now trying to keep us out of direct involvement of our forces in Syria, in the Ukraine and back in Iraq. He says he will not involve our military forces again by putting, “Boots on the Ground”.
These all were physical wars -but we, in the church, are fighting a Spiritual War –We are bringing the King back! For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Ephesians 6:12,13
Could it be that we, also, are getting tired of the war? • Is it wise to have our missionaries traveling away from their field of battle for up to two years at a cost of $70.000 per year? • Would any of us want to be away from our churches for two years? What would we find when we got back? • We became an organization with the motto:
“The Whole Gospel –To the Whole World”. • We are in the battle in over 200 nations –Let us not withdraw our troops now! _____________________________________________ With the Lord’s help, I pledge the following this year: $300 _____ $600 _______ $1200 ______ $2400 ______ Please send pledge by email to:

As I saw those old yellow buses roll away, I felt homesick for the little kids who used to meet me in the halls of the school with hugs, that I was the Principal for 20 years. A feeling of dread and apprehension also came over me. Parents and children come with so much expectancy for an education that promises so much –yet delivers so little. Many come so open and eager, and leave
after twelve years so closed and damaged. Nebuchadnezzar besieged Jerusalem, defeated it, sacked the temple and took the golden Holy vessels from Jerusalem to Babylon. He also scattered the skilled men and took the best of the children back to Babylon to train them as leaders in his kingdom. Notice, he targeted that which was holy--scattered the men and compromised the children. Satan is using the same tactics today. Satan’s goal is to indoctrinate our children and change their language. He wants to take our

holy vessels to his temple. Satan is attempting to break up our marriages and scatter our families. Even the institution of ‘marriage’ itself is being devalued. A front page New York Times article reported that more than half of births to mothers under age 30 occur out of wedlock. Children still need both parents. Childhood has disappeared with the advent of the media. Children are now seeing and experiencing things that would cause most adults to blush. Respect for intimacy and sex within marriage is out of vogue. Respect for human life is sacrificed
on the altar of ‘women’s rights’ to be selfish. God is banished from our courts and from our schools. Satan is after our best. He wants the children of the King of Kings. He wants our innocent children— children without blemish, well favored, skillful in wisdom and cunning in knowledge. He wants those amongst us who are intelligent and have the ability to stand before kings. Satan is trying to subvert them by teaching them the values and the language of this culture. He wants to educate them away from their family and their church and so, making them question their faith and their values. In the 1940’s and 50’s the men were at war and the women left the homes to work in the armament factories –leaving the
kids without supervision. In the 1960’s the courts took the Bible and prayer out of the schools leaving a ‘values vacuum’. The curriculum rejected the creator and substituted evolution and humanism. Absolutes and the ‘ten commandments’ where relegated out, as old fashioned. The colleges turned out teachers who were trained and agreed with all of the above. Satan is giving our children daily portions of the food of this culture— “kings meat, and kings wine” --daily doses of this world’s philosophy, daily portions of this world’s values and daily doses of this world’s godless media. The problem is --it is still ‘foreign food offered to a foreign god’. So—Satan captures the minds of our children by breaking up
our families, invading their cell phones and infiltrating their Public Schools. So –Do you want to send your precious little vessels there?◊ ____________________________
