INTERNSHIPS

• Remember, even if you’re not looking for a job or internship right now, you’re building professional relationships and your personal brand.

WHAT’S AN INTERNSHIP? A form of experiential learning that integrates classroom knowledge with career-related work experiences in a structured learning environment.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF AN INTERNSHIP? • MENTORSHIPS: Your supervisor is your mentor. They are there to guide and support you as you explore your career interests. • BUILDING NEW SKILLS: Your internship is an opportunity for you to observe, learn, and practice new skills. Grow personally and professionally by accomplishing challenging tasks and projects. • NETWORKING: Internships are an excellent way to cultivate authentic relationships with professionals and companies. Learning from others helps build a strong network.

WHAT IS NETWORKING? Networking is about listening, giving, and being your most sincere self. Clearing up some misconceptions about networking, it’s not about taking from people, or using people, promoting yourself, or establishing shallow contacts. You’re already networking. When you're talking to your professor during office hours, making a friend in class, or attending an event on campus, you’re networking! It can happen anytime, anywhere.

TIPS AND TRICKS FOR NETWORKING WITH EMPLOYERS? • Listen • Ask thoughtful and fun questions • Share engaging stories about your life • Express gratitude • Stay connected! Exchange contact information and follow-up after the fair
