ON THE COVER

A selection of photos collected throughout winter 2024 term.

(Photos selected by Molly McPherson/Emerald)

It is the best time of the year; the Daily Emerald photo desk term recap is here. This edition is always fun to put together and look through. It’s a treat to be able to run a print edition that shows the hard work put in by the photo desk throughout the 10 weeks of our term. This edition is filled to the brim with wonderful photos by our amazing desk. This desk is comprised of Alex Hernandez, Alyssa Garcia, Eddie Bruning, Eric Becker, Kai Kanzer (senior photographer), Kemper Flood, Lulu Devoulin, Sebastian Flores and Spencer So. Of course, this desk wouldn’t be complete or nearly as successful without the help of my lovely associate editor, Jonathan Suni. Thank you, Suni, for all of your hard work and dedication to the photo desk.

I feel so lucky to be able to lead and empower this amazing group of photojournalists. As you’ll see in this edition, there are some wonderful photos taken by the individuals of this desk. Take some time to relish in the beauty of photojournalism and take a look back on the winter term through the lens of the Daily Emerald photo desk.

Keep creating, Molly McPherson

Hi! I am so lucky and grateful to be a part of the Daily Emerald photo desk! I have been working all year on pursuing my passion of sports photography, and I am so excited to be able to share some of my favorite shots from winter term.

I’m a senior majoring in journalism with a minor in French. I love reading, traveling and documenting life through photography.

Hello! I am a senior at UO double majoring in English and journalism with a minor in Native American studies.

I’m from Coos Bay, Ore., where I started shooting photos for my high school’s student newspaper. Now I find any excuse I can to have a camera in my hands! Check out my Instagram, @hernandez.photoj, or my website, hernandezphoto.com, to see more of my work.

ALEX

ALEX HERNANDEZ

I’m a sophomore at UO with a passion for all sports. I am currently studying journalism with a minor in sports business. I hope to have a career in sports media one day and be a fulltime photojournalist.

EDDING BRUNING

I’m a Pacific Northwest-based photographer specializing in covering anything that moves, including sports, action and wildlife. Away from the camera, I enjoy building computers and attempting to fix my various project cars with varying levels of success. I’m in my junior year at the University of Oregon, majoring in advertising while actively pursuing a career in sports media after graduation.

Hello, I am a junior at the University of Oregon. I’m an Oregon native and started my photography as a high school senior. Since my senior year, I have pursued photography with a focus in sports. I’m very fortunate to have been able to work with the amazing people in the Pacific Northwest, and I’m looking forward to continuing my photography with the Daily Emerald.
