2014 LACROSSE MEDIA GUIDE

SEASON PREVIEW

“We’re excited for the upcoming season,” said head coach Jen Beck. “We have worked tremendously hard and every member of our team is committed to putting the team above themselves to help guide us towards success.”

A LOOK AT THE DUCKS Oregon wrapped up its ninth season 8-9 and 3-5 in conference play, missing its own conference tournament last year. The Ducks were just 5-5 while playing at Papé Field while posting a 3-4 record on the road. Oregon returns 10-of-12 starters from last year’s squad including 4-of-5 players that scored 20-plus goals, only losing Kate Cathell. Caroline Federighi returns back between the pipes for UO after posting a school record .504 saves percentage. Shannon Propst led the Ducks with a team-high 29 goals and 39 assists for 68 points on the season. Carly O’Connell returns for her sophomore campaign after posting 23 goals with 17 assists for 40 points, good for second on the team in points.

IN THE POLLS The preseason coaches’ poll released by the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation had Oregon slated to finish fourth in league play receiving 53 points. Stanford was picked to finish first, garnering 78 points and seven first-place votes, with Denver right behind the Cardinal with 74 points and a pair of first-place votes. USC finished ahead of Oregon with 66 points while garnering one first-place vote.

The Ducks then hit conference play in full stride, starting with matches at California and St. Mary’s on April 3 and April 6 respectively. Oregon then plays host to last year’s conference tournament champions, Stanford, on April 11. Two days later, the Ducks play host to UC Davis before heading visiting Southern California (April 18) and San Diego State (April 20). Oregon will conclude its regular season schedule with a pair of home games against Denver, last year’s regular-season champions, and Colorado. DUCKS ON TV Oregon will have a pair of its games broadcast on the Pac-12 Networks this season. The first of which will be the Ducks’ first road conference match in Berkeley, Calif., against the California Golden Bears on Apr. 3 at 7 p.m. Eight days later, UO will have its match against Stanford, last year’s conference tournament champions, televised from Papé Field on Friday, Apr. 11, at 5 p.m. DUCKS RELOAD FOR 2014 SEASON Having lost six seniors to graduation, two of which were starters, head coach Jen Beck reloaded the Ducks’ roster with eight standouts from across the United States. Three hailed from the state of Maryland, two from Colorado, and one each from Massachusetts, Oregon and California. Beck signed a pair of goalies in Jan Parker and Becca Katzen. Parker hails from Danvers, Mass., where she led The Williston Northampton School to three Northeastern Conference championships earning NEC MVP honors her sophomore and junior seasons. Katzen prepped at Dulaney High School where she split time with two other goalies. The remaining six signees come to Oregon at the midfield position. Annie Longtain, the lone Oregon signee, led West Linn High School to a runner-up finish in 2012 and a third third-place finish in 2011 at the state tournament. Bella Pyne joined older sister Olivia at Oregon boasting a resume that includes South River High School’s first state championship in 2010. Pyne also earned multiple allcounty and all-league honors during her prep career. Rachel Steinberg was an Under Armour All-American and Maximum Exposure All-Star. Steinberg led the Severn School in ground balls, draw controls and caused turnovers her season year.

The Ducks open their season on the road in Deland, Fla., with Stetson on Feb. 9. The Hatters just competed in their first season as a varsity sport last year and look to improve upon their 2-14 record. Oregon then heads north to Jacksonville, Fla., for a contest with Coastal Carolina (5-11). The neutral site match will be the Chanticleer’s first match of the season. Like the Hatters, Coastal Carolina is in its second season as a varsity sport.

Erin Schilmoeller joins fellow prep teammate Blumhardt at Oregon for the 2014 season. Schilmoeller earned multiple all-league honors as well as back-to-back academic All-America honors.

Kathryn Blumhardt, a Regis Jesuit High School grad, earned all-state honorable mention as well as second-team all-league honors to go along with her academic All-America honors and first-team all-academic selections.

Oregon then returns home for a three-game homestand at Papé Field hosting UConn,

Gibson led LCCHS to the California Interscholastic Federation championships in 2012 and was awarded U.S. Lacrosse High School America honors for her efforts. She also earned first-team All-CIF honors her freshman and sophomore years.
