Oren Forgette

Oren Forgette enrolled at SUNY Geneseo to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Applied Physics, complemented by a minor in Mathematics. With graduation slated for May 2024, he maintains a solid 3.0 GPA, navigating the challenges of a rigorous curriculum with aplomb. Oren's interest in space and physics led him to a significant opportunity in the summer of 2023 when he joined the NASA NY Space Grant program. Under the mentorship of Dr. Pellerin at SUNY Geneseo, he worked on processing images from the Hubble Space Telescope, contributing to research on planetary nebulae through his creation of RGB images using specific astronomical filters. In addition to his research, Oren has demonstrated considerable skill in technology and programming. One notable project involved using Labview to develop a control system for stepping motors, enhancing the interaction between a toy car and a live stream camera. This project showcased his technical abilities and his capacity for innovative problem-solving. Outside of the laboratory, Oren's leadership skills shine through. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, undertaking a community service project that involved building a deer enclosure, reflecting his commitment to environmental conservation. At SUNY Geneseo, he displayed leadership as the Sports Chair for the Zeta Beta Xi Fraternity, organizing intramural sports and fostering team spirit among members. Oren's work experience is as diverse as his academic pursuits, ranging from customer service at the Cheesy Chick Cafe & Food Trucks to delivering orders for DoorDash. Each role has honed his ability to manage responsibilities effectively under varying circumstances.
