During a site visit to a fire stations in LA and another in Malibu, I had the opportunity to interact with the brave firefighters and ask them about the spaces that they used the most and the accomodations they needed to make a good fire station. I couldn’t ignore perceving the strees level to which each firefighter was exposed in the two different stations. The LA station gets more than 70+ calls a day, the first thing they mentioned during the tour is that they would have to leave if the alarm was going off you could feel their stress. The Malibu station which gets 10+ calls a day, where more relax but still you could tell that their facilities did not allow them to properlly interact and divided between the public and the private space. Mental health of the fireghters is an ongoing subject, they get propessional help, but for this project we want to make the architecture part of the healling process.

This fire station would take advantage of every season sun exposure. Arizona is the valley of the sun I thought that it would be convenient to angle one edge of the costume made windows to control the sunlight in the interior of the structure. The idea is to redirect the light into the white wall to act as a lamp during the day.Â
