SHARED VALUES

Flashy, Artistic, Unbarred, and Extravagant © ORIENT DESIGN 2018

CONCEPT

The Korean shopping experience is a blaze of colour and intensity, with each sight being different than the one before. Condensing all of this hustle and bustle into one unique shopping experience, Yeppo aims to showcase its diversity in Korean beauty in an artistic and unbarred manner. Set aside all perceptions of a ‘standard retail store’; it’s our aim to redefine that. The overall design language should allow the customer to experience the vibrancy of Korea, but not be overwhelmed with visual clutter. It should have room for artistry, but also be a functional well-designed space. The design objectives conclude with: 1. Imposing a high visual impact 2. Balancing between art and design 3. Re-defining the retail experience

KEY MATERIALS

VISUAL IMPACT These materials are at the top of the store’s visual hierarchy. Although impressive, they should not be overused to avoid visual clutter.

WHITE SPACE In order for the flashier materials to shine, consistentcy among the remaining elements is necessary. The materials may vary, but their colour will always be anchored at white, allowing room for thematic but fun textures.

CONTRAST Darker materials tie the whole space together, preventing it from being too bright. These materials create contrast with the white ones and should be used with the most restraint of the lot.

CONCEPT

Variations of materials in white are used for the floor and ceiling to add interesting textures in the store. The floor will be in matte/ unfinshed tiles that tessalate into a geometric pattern. Cove lighting may be present. Cove light will be present for the ceiling to create a cozy atmosphere. The central area of the ceiling will be covered in die-cut plates that allow light to shine through (bottom pic) to create a snow-like mystical effect. White neon lights may be present.

Yeppo’s vibrancy doesn’t follow any traditional retail standards; we strive to define our own shopping experience for our customers. The retail does not have any traditional shelving, but instead adopts an exhibition-style layout, with products displayed on open tables rather than cluttered on shelves. This exhibition-style reduces internal competition between products for customers to shop without visual clutter.

The tables, standing at an apt comparison to human height, allows customers to manoeuvre around the store without being daunted by the height of taller shelves. This is especially important considering out younger, more active and curious target audience demographic. They give the store a more open and spacious appearance overall. Each table is transparent, adding to the store’s open concept. The products are illuminated with a chandelier hanging above each table.

Being a beauty retailer, it is important for customers to be able to test and recieve some consultation for products. This sample bar has to have contrast to the existing product displays for easy recognition among customers.

This sampling island consists of a giant rose gold doughnut table to create a fluid appearance. Staff can enter this doughnut and assist customers seated outside of it. The doughnut would be adorned with sinks, bar stools, and a myraid of popular products ready for testing. The chandelier has the same dark wood material as the product table’s, but has a more extravagant arrangement.
