Events

From the Critérium du Dauphiné to the UCI MTB World Cup, a number of excellent events are planned across our villages and valleys this summer. In order to give you the most precise, up to date information, we’ve included them all on our website events calendar, which also includes current COVID-19 regulations concerning gatherings. Head to morzinesourcemagazine. com for the latest events information.

What's new in Bike Park Les Gets?

Our mountain resorts generated very little revenue during the Winter 21 season. Despite this, they continue to invest in improved facilities and trails for the summer season. This is certainly true in Les Gets, where bike park shapers have overhauled the 4-cross at the bottom of La Roue Libre this spring for your riding pleasure. The team have also taken the time to give this arrival zone a facelift, making it even more spectacular. The Triple 8 has also been entirely refurbished by the Bike Park Les Gets team. Go forth and enjoy! Nyon - Dedicated to You

Because not everyone visits Morzine during the summer to hurtle down mountains, Nyon is now dedicated to those seeking a more relaxed pace during the sunny months. Take the free bus from Morzine or leave your car in the free car park at the base of the mountain, ride the brand new escalator to the gondola lift and enjoy the views as you head up to the Nyon Plateau. Take the Pointe de Nyon chairlift to access the 15 metre, glass-floored viewing platform perched at an altitude of 2019 metres for incredible views between Lake Geneva and Mont Blanc. Mountain flora and fauna are also abundant on Nyon, whilst the Pointe de Nyon restaurant is now home to a mini mountain farm with goats, rabbits and chickens, birds of prey and demonstrations by local shepherds. A new environmental trail has also been created next to the restaurant, complete with information boards to help you spot animals, mountains flowers and more. A Bike Park for All Levels in Morzine

Vital MTB voted Morzine’s Bike Park 8th best in the world in 2020, yet progress continues to make it more inclusive for beginner riders. With a focus on creating environmentally friendly features by hand, last summer brought us a brand new, free to enjoy, beginners area at the top of Pleney, complete with small berms and jumps for the smallest of riders. This year a new 4.5km long trail named Family has been installed and as the name suggests, it’s a gentle trail with several banked turns. At the other end of the scale, former French downhill champion and Santa Cruz ambassador Romain Paulhan has collaborated with the bike park team to redesign the red trail, now renamed Super 8. Expect a technical run with jumps and tables. There’s also two new bike wash points at the bottom of Pleney and they’re free to use with your lift pass.

La Casa Co-working in Les Gets

Because #WFH is sure to loose its appeal soon, Pacome Schmitt has launched his own co-working space in Les Gets. “I’ve had discussions with friends who work from home yet find it difficult to be productive,” Pacome explains. “Home working can be distracting for many reasons and it’s very difficult to find a rhythm to separate your work life and your home life,” he continues. Inside La Casa you’ll find seven work spaces including four individual desks and three shared tables. There’s a calm, inspiring vibe throughout plus custom furniture from our favourite local furniture maker, Tristan at Tanko Designs. Pacome plans to add individual offices later this year for those who need privacy while working. Rates start at €20 per day, while weekly, monthly and annual space rental is also available. You can find out more and plan a visit by emailing info.tfcw@gmail.com or head to facebook.com/ lacasacoworking74 for further updates. La Casa Coworking is located at 781 rue du Centre in Les Gets.

Staying Out is the new Staying In

Can there be a better to way enjoy the tranquility of the mountains than an overnight stay in a refuge? Now if you’re imagining day-long hikes to a remote mountain location (you can head to page 40 for those!), think again! Refuge L’Abricotine is located at the foot of the Cascade de Brochaux, which is a relatively flat and easy hike from the Lindarets bowl - it’s incredibly easy to get there, even with the smallest of children. Benjamin and his team await you for an authentic refuge experience featuring Savoyarde specialities for dinner before you bunk down in one of two dormitories. There are 24 beds in total, so why not get a group together? Discover more at refuge-abricotine.com or call +33 (0) 6 66 26 05 26.

Morzine Summer Luge New Owners for La Croix Blanche in Les Gets

Accessible from the top of the Crusaz chairlift at the base of the Pleney and open each day between Friday 9th July and Sunday 29th August, 10.30am to 6pm, Morzine’s 800m long, 16 turn summer luge is arguably just as fun to watch as it is to ride. Children aged between three and eight must join an adult for the ride and we guarantee fun for all the family. We’d recommend planning a luge trip in the afternoon when the queues will be shorter but we don’t recommend trying to luge in the rain!

New Trails in Avoriaz 1800

Located at the foot of the slopes of Les Gets’ Chavannes mid-station, the sunny terrace of La Croix Blanche has been a Source favourite for many years. Summer or winter, the views are incredible! Under new ownership from this summer season, the Alpine Restaurants group will instal a brand new menu under the guidance of Michelin-trained group Changement de propriétaire head chef Anthony Trezy. Come autumn, the restaurant will undergo a full renovation ahead of the winter season, in keeping with the chic, contemporary style of Vina Annapurna (also open this summer in Les NEW OWNERSHIP Gets) and La Bokka (opens December 21), which are also operated by the Alpine Restaurants group. What can we expect on the menu this summer? Tuna tataki, marinated soya beans and wasabi coulis for It’s been a busy spring for the shapers of Avoriaz MTB. Not only have starters! Named Wallibi (red) and Goupil (blue), they split off from the Fourmiz trail and rejoin it at the bottom of the Seraussaix lift. The creation of new hiking trails in Lindarets means the Chemin des Brochaux is now dedicated to bikes and renamed ‘The Goat’. It’ll be further enhanced this summer, while the chemin de la Cabana aux Garde also becomes an official bike trail.

Avoriaz 1800 continues its dedication to enduro and e-bikes with ‘The Loop’. Undulating from Avoriaz to the bottom of the Zore lift and back, The Loop makes use of existing trails but will be clearly signposted. You’ll also discover that the Avoriaz MTB Trail Progression scale in partnership with Santa Cruz Bicycles has been updated and split into Tech and Flow trails to help riders better understand their progression and trial choice.
