Origin Origin is a family run British company who design and manufacture contemporary furniture products for use within education, workplace, healthcare and hospitality environments.

Our products are manufactured, stocked and assembled in Great Britain providing our customers with high quality products that can be easily customised and delivered within short time frames.

Flux is a modern interpretation of the multi-functional shell chair. Flux offers a simple design formed with clean lines and subtle curves to form an ergonomic seat shape, providing flexibility of movement and comfort in a variety of different sitting positions, from upright to side on to kicking back. Ideal for higher education, co-working and office environments.

A chair fit for modern universities Giles Pearson - Designer

Origin designed Flux with modern university students in mind, providing them with a chair that didn’t look or feel like a typical classroom chair. Over the past 60 years ‘poly’ style school chairs have focussed mostly on producing cheaper iterations of the last, sacrificing other important aspects of the chair. Contrary to this trend Flux has been designed to progress the aesthetic and functional role of the classroom chair making it a perfect fit for modern learning and working spaces.

We recognise the importance of moving to more sustainable methods of manufacture and procurement. That’s why we’ve recently increased the use of recycled PP in our poly chairs; a step which is part of our ambition to build an ever more sustainable furniture company and become part of the circular economy. 50% of the polymer used in all Origin’s chairs is now made from recycled content and to bring the same rigid and durable product we

use prime glass to reinforce the chair. The new compound material has been optimised to maintain the same aesthetic appeal and durable qualities, but now shipped with a more environmentally friendly footprint. Flux has been designed to withstand stringent education and contract testing standards. However if a part does need replacing, Flux has been designed to disassemble into its constituent parts, so they can be easily replaced and ultimately recycled.

“It’s always been our ambition to make chairs from recycled materials. The challenge has been to ensure we can ship the same standard of product without busting the budget. After years of persistence and (many!) a failed trial, I’m happy we’ve not only got a winning formula but can ship for the same price.
