Origin is a family run British company who design and manufacture contemporary furniture products for use within education, workplace, healthcare and hospitality environments.
We strive to make good design available to everyone, that’s why we design quality products that both meet the demands of some of the biggest brands in the world, yet are accessible to someone starting their first cafe.
Our products are manufactured, stocked and assembled in Great Britain providing our customers with high quality products that can be easily customised and delivered within short time frames.

The Graphic collection consists of a broad range of stools, benches and tables entirely made from steel. The design features an ultra thin top made possible through a robust frame construction. Each of the products have been reduced to the essential shapes required, bringing abstract form and colour to both indoor and outdoor settings.

Giles Pearson - Designer
With Graphic our aim was to design a collection of furniture with an understated presence, that didn’t dominate a space but instilled a sense of confidence to the surroundings. The abstract shapes that make up the collection compliment green spaces, allowing plants to take centre stage.
The growing demand for outdoor spaces (forced by the pandemic), has opened our eyes to the beauty and opportunity of this often overlooked space. Nature and Plants work on a subliminal level to improve our mood and overall happiness, making us feel more peaceful in our day to day life.

A table with stools or benches around it is a social space, a place to come together and collaborate. Creativity and spontaneous inspiration only happens when people are able to come together. We like to think of Graphic as a contemporary platform to host conversation, meetings, food and drinks, whether that be in a work or social context. Whilst the collection was designed specifically for the outdoors it works equally as well indoors, in cafeterias and break out areas.
Graphic is another expression of the core design values we are developing in the portfolio we’re building at Origin. A well designed product for me is something that has been worked on and tested over a period of time. With every iteration refining the product to its simplest form, whilst maintaining the most characterful expression of that idea.
Searching for the beauty that exists in simplicity however, isn’t always as easy as it appears. As something so simple and effortless on the outside in contrast often requires a lot of development and refinement to reach the most elegant solution.

Kampus
Kampus is Manchester’s latest garden neighbourhood, located right in the city centre. The ambitions canal side development includes the restoration of iconic Victorian warehouses, surrounded by secret streets, gardens, terraces, and independent restaurants. The development has opened up a forgotten part of the city, mixing Manchester’s industrial heritage with modern design.
Origin has recently supplied it’s latest Graphic Tables and Benches along side Contour Chairs and In-Out Tables to the projects canal side restaurant and event space. The contemporary furniture designs compliment the industrial surroundings, concrete structures and modern garden area, creating a space rich in contrast.

Circular Steel Design
In fact it is the most recycled material in the world, and whilst it may not be a new material it can be re-imagined into new forms, suitable for modern life. This is why we are building a diverse portfolio of steel based products, which are made from recycled material and are designed to be easily recycled.
Origin’s steel products are made from a combination 56% recycled and 44% virgin material. This is thought to be the most sustainable ratio, as demand for steel outstrips the amount that is recycled. Buying steel on the basis of high recycled content does not stimulate further recycling but instead increases the cost.

Steel is a great material, it is strong, inexpensive and endlessly recyclable.
Giles Pearson - Designer
Steel has many great characteristics, although it’s best I feel is that it can be repeatedly recycled without any impact on the quality of the material. I like the idea that the steel in our chairs has metamorphosised over the years serving a variety of different functions. A chair now but may have been a car panel, structural beam or hand rail, this to me is circular design.
Product longevity is also extremely important to sustainability, designing products to last not only physically but from an aesthetical stand point, rather than following any fashion trends. I believe it’s important to focus on material, structural and functional qualities when designing a product and to allow a pure aesthetic to emerge organically.
