STUDIO PRACTICE Statement of Intent Name Blog Address http://o-‐conlon1316sp.blogspot.co.uk/ Orlaith Conlon Date 19/10/15 Rationale For this module I will commit to delivering my best work with solid and rigorous conceptual development that is evident in my final outcomes. I want to refine my working practice to produce work faster, and I want to continue in exploring the tone of voice or authorship in my practice. I want explore applied illustration further by creating my own products in which I use illustration as a tool to help me bring life and uniqueness to a range. I am planning on designing small separate capsule ranges for retail for the market/audience of young mother/baby, party ware, home ware, DIY. Creating and designing products myself will be a challenge but I believe it will show my range of interests well in my portfolio. For this brief I also want to build on the character and narrative work from last year and have selected two briefs, which will enable me to develop this strand further. Themes / Subjects Themes: Fun/ Youth/ Bold Handcrafted/ Collectable/ Usable Narrative/ Character Subjects: Retail/ Product design. Handmade movement. Children’s book design and character creation. Products / Methods of Distribution Illustrated Children’s book possibly continued from my development last year. Will need advice on this. Paper party wear, designed with a specific event in mind e.g. unicorn party, divorce party, to be aimed at 20-‐35 age range of shoppers. To be sold in shops such as Colour’s May Vary, Fred Aldous, Paperchase Baby Bundles: Range of illustrated baby products using the digital skills developed from last year. Screen-‐printed products: Using the colleges faculties as much as possible to produce products which I can package and sell online or at art fairs so that when we leave I have a large volume of products to begin with.
