Work begins on Orléans Health Hub

By Fred Sherwin The Orléans Star After 10 years of waiting, work has finally begun on the long-awaited and highly anticipated Orléans Health Hub. The official groundbreaking ceremony was held on Tuesday, Aug. 6 near the corner of Mer Bleue Road and Brian Coburn Blvd. The event was attended by all of the area’s local politicians including Orléans MPP Marie-France Lalonde who has been doggedly staying on top of the project every since she took over from Phil McNeely as the local MPP. “This is a great day for the residents of Orléans who have been extremely patient in waiting for this important project which will improve heath care services in the east end
for years to come,” said Lalonde. The Health Hub was first promised by then Health Minister George Smitherman in 2009. That pledge was reiterated by then Premier Dalton McGuinty during re-election stopover in Orléans in 2010, Since then it has suffered numerous delays over the years, but was never far from the minds of residents eager for the important addition to the east end. It was thought the project maybe in jeopardy when the Conservatives replaced the former Liberal government in last year’s provincial election, but Doug Ford stayed true to his word and delivered on his campaign promise that the Health Hub would be built.
