Speaker Biographies 70 peer-reviewed articles in the field of child psychiatry, psychopharmacology, genetics and neuroscience. His research is funded by the March of Dimes, NARSAD, Stolz Foundation, Israel Psychobiology Association and recently also by the Canadian Friends of Tel Aviv University (CFTAU).

Jeffrey Bland, PhD, Chief Science Officer at Metagenics, and President, Metaproteomics, has been an internationally recognized leader in the nutritional medicine field for over 30 years. In 1992, he established the internationally respected Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM) to train health practitioners. Dr Bland is a former professor of biochemistry at the University of Puget Sound, and a previous Director of Nutritional Research at the Linus Pauling Institute of Science and Medicine. Dr Bland has authored five books on nutritional medicine for healthcare professionals and four for the general public. He is also the principal author of over 100 peer-reviewed research papers on nutritional biochemistry.

John Hoffer, MD, PhD is a professor of medicine at McGill University where he conducts research in the Lady Davis Institute for Medical Research. He earned his medical degree from McGill and his doctorate in Human and Clinical Nutrition from M.I.T. Dr Hoffer is also a senior physician in the divisions of Internal Medicine and Endocrinology in Montreal’s Jewish General Hospital. His research interests are in proteinenergy malnutrition and vitamin therapy for chronic disease.

Aileen Burford-Mason is an immunologist, cell biologist and nutritionist with a deep interest in the evidence base for orthomolecular health. Aileen graduated in biochemistry from University College, Dublin, and received a PhD in immunology from the University of Hertfordshire. Her scientific papers cover many fields including gastroenterology, pathology, cancer and infectious diseases. She has published articles on gastrointestinal colonization with Candida and its relationship to health. She was Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Pathology in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto. In 2004, Aileen co-founded and currently serves as Board President of the Holistic Health Research Foundation of Canada.

Patrick Holford is a pioneer in new approaches to health and nutrition, specializing in the field of mental health. While completing his bachelor degree in Experimental Psychology at the University of York, he became a student of Dr. Carl Pfeiffer, director of Princeton’s Brain Bio Center, and later a student of Dr. Abram Hoffer. In 1984 Patrick founded the Institute for Optimum Nutrition (ION), now the largest school in the UK offering degree-accredited training. Patrick retired as Director of ION in 1997 to focus on writing, teaching and researching. Since 1997 Patrick has written 29 books selling more than a million copies worldwide including: The Optimum Nutrition Bible, Optimum Nutrition for the Mind, The Holford Low GL Diet, and Natural Highs.

Natasha Campbell-McBride, MD graduated as a Medical Doctor in 1984 from Bashkir Medical University in Russia followed by a Postgraduate Degree in Neurology. After practicing for eight years as a Neurologist and as a Neurosurgeon she started a family and moved to the UK. When her son was diagnosed autistic, it prompted Campbell-McBride to develop her theories on the relationship between neurological disorders and nutrition, and completed a second Postgraduate Degree in Human Nutrition at Sheffield University, UK. In 2000, she opened the Cambridge Nutrition Clinic. Campbell-McBride’s books are Gut And Psychology Syndrome (2004) and Put Your Heart.

Ronald Hunninghake, MD is the Chief Medical Officer of the Olive White Garvey Center for Healing Arts, the clinical division of The Center for the Improvement of Human Functioning, International. He is a 1976 graduate of the University of Kansas. Dr. Hunninghake was associated with the Family Practice Group in Minneapolis, Kansas, from 1978 to 1980, and Salina Family Physicians, KS, from 1982 to 1989. In addition to his full-time practice at The Center, Ron is a regular presenter at medical conferences, and The Center’s “Lunch & Lecture” series on timely, health-related topics.

Jack Challem is a personal nutrition coach and bestselling author based in Tucson, Arizona. He is one of America’s most trusted nutrition and health writers, with 30 years’ experience. He is the author of The FoodMood Solution, Feed Your Genes Right, The Inflammation Syndrome, and the lead author of Syndrome X: The Complete Nutritional Program to Prevent and Reverse Insulin Resistance. He writes The Nutrition Reporter™ newsletter and contributes regularly to many magazines, including Alternative Medicine, Better Nutrition, Body & Soul, Experience Life, Let’s Live, and Modern Maturity. Jack’s scientific articles have appeared in Free Radical Biology & Medicine, Journal of Orthomolecular Medicine, and Medical Hypotheses.

David Quig, PhD received his PhD in Nutritional Biochemistry from the University of Illinois. He then served as a Senior Cardiovascular Pharmacologist for seven years. For the past 11 years David has served as the Vice President of Scientific Support for Doctor’s Data where he has focused on toxic metals, and has facilitated and published an array of studies spanning metal detoxification in autistic children to the poisoning of our environment with amalgam-derived mercury. Michael Schachter, MD, CNS, a graduate of Columbia P & S Medical School in NYC and Board Certified psychiatrist, has been involved with nutritional, complementary and integrative health care for more than 34 years. He is a recognized leader in alternative cancer therapies, EDTA chelation therapy for cardiovascular disease and orthomolecular psychiatry. He is a past president of ACAM, has authored numerous articles and has appeared in the media frequently. His latest book, What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Depression was released in November 2006. He is the medical director of the Schachter Center for Complementary Medicine in Suffern, NY.

Gary Ginsberg, DrPH was born in London, England. He holds a BSc in Statistics/Economics and a Masters in Economics. He attained his DrPH from University of North Carolina and was employed by the Institute of Psychiatry and London Borough of Wandsworth Social Services, RD&P, before moving to his current position with the Israeli Ministry of Health, where he specializes in “objectively” evaluating potential interventions using Cost-Utility analysis. Dr Ginsberg recently spent two years as a senior scientist at the WHO headquarters in Geneva. He has published over 80 articles and, more importantly, has seen the adoption of some of the articles’ conclusions lead to many lives being saved.

Alexander Schauss, PhD is Senior Director, Natural and Medicinal Products Division of AIBMR Life Sciences, Inc., in Puyallup, Washington, which he has been associated with for 28 years. He was a Clinical Professor of Natural Products Research at the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Oregon. Dr Schauss has been a member of the National Institutes of Health, Office of Alternative Medicine Advisory Council. He is the author or co-author of 18 books and 145 papers in a diverse range of scientific journals and publications. In 2005, Dr Schauss received the Linus Pauling Lecture Award from the American College for the Advancement of Medicine.

James Greenblatt, MD is the Chief Medical Officer of Walden Behavioral Care in Waltham, Massachusetts. Dr Greenblatt has been treating patients with complex eating disorders since 1988. He received his medical degree and completed his adult psychiatry residency at George Washington University in Washington, DC, and completed a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at Johns Hopkins Medical School. He maintains a private practice in Waltham, Massachusetts. Dr Greenblatt is Medical Director of Comprehensive Psychiatric Resources, an orthomolecular outpatient treatment center in Boston, Massachusetts and is Assistant Clinical Professor at Tufts University Medical School, Department of Psychiatry.

Maret Traber, PhD is a Principal Investigator in the Linus Pauling Institute, and Professor in the Department of Nutrition & Exercise Sciences at Oregon State University. She received both undergraduate and doctoral degrees in Nutrition Science from the University of California at Berkley. With over 220 scientific publications, Dr. Traber is considered one of the world’s leading experts on vitamin E. In 2000, Dr. Traber served on the National Academy of Science’s, Institute of Medicine Panel on Dietary Antioxidants and Related Compounds that established the dietary requirements for the antioxidant vitamins C and E, selenium and carotenoids.

Doron Gothelf, MD is a psychiatrist for children, adolescents and adults. He is associate professor of psychiatry at Sackler Faculty of Medicine, Tel Aviv University and director of the Behavioral Neurogenetics Center, the Child Psychiatry Outpatient Clinics and the director of research at Schneider Children’s Medical Center of Israel. He has published more than
