Materiality Booklet
COLLECTIONS
This booklet explores the main concept of man-made’s shop interior: the surrounding materiality at 24 Wilson Street. The materials chosen are a direct influence of the street-scape with many of them being very raw in their state, used and imperfect. This is translated within the collections and other elements within the store to create a subtle narrative between the exterior and interior. By working with local and relevant vocabulary to contextualise, the interior space becomes a tactile engaging space that allows the natural terrain to extend inside. The process required looking at these materials and figuring out how to elevate the ‘urban’ aesthetic to match the high-end products on display. This was done by using pattern, texture, colour and various finishes to create atmosphere. The result is a balance between raw forms of nature and minimal, curated compositions of products. A space where materials contrast with one another but when seen as a whole, compliment the overall aesthetic of the store.
