Hip-hop is about much more than just music; it is, among other things, a form of self-expression and a community of shared interests and reference points. It is both global and local and has made a home everywhere from the streets of Harare and Bulawayo to the Bijlmer in Amsterdam. ‘Bout it #2’, the OSCAM hip-hop exhibition, curated by founder/director Marian Duff and Soufiane Kinane, creative content manager Top Notch, shines a spotlight on musicians from both the Netherlands and Zimbabwe. OSCAM has joined forces with Magamba Network. Bout It captures musicians as 'journalists from the streets' in the area they grew up in, digging deeper into how this influences their art, lifestyle, and fashion taste. In making the international connection, the global hip-hop culture becomes locally visual. In this paper, we give space to the artists that are exhibited in OSCAM to fully tell their stories.
