Jen Gerber, our Library Director, would like to recommend the following title:

The Secret Lives of Color by Kasia St. Clair "The unforgettable, unknown history of colors and the vivid stories behind them in a beautiful multi colored volume The Secret Lives of Color tells the unusual stories of seventy-five fascinating shades, dyes and hues. From blonde to ginger, the brown that changed the way battles were fought to the white that protected against the plague, Picasso's blue period to the charcoal on the cave walls at Lascaux, acid yellow to kelly green, and from scarlet women to imperial purple, these surprising stories run like a bright thread throughout history. In this book, Kassia St. Clair has turned her lifelong obsession with colors and where they come from (whether Van Gogh's chrome yellow sunflowers or punk's fluorescent pink) into a unique study of human civilization. Across fashion and politics, art and war, the secret lives of color tell the vivid story of our culture. Description provided by publisher.

The Christmas Wedding by James Patterson and Richard DiLallo A delightful book!! It took only one afternoon to read this book. Gaby Summerhill, a widow and mother of four grown children, has decided to marry again on Christmas day. The catch is no one, including the groom, will know whom she is marrying until the wedding! Gaby sends three or four video messages to her children enticing them home for Christmas with this news. Who will she marry? Three men have proposed. Tom, a farmer and close friend, Jacob, a rabbi, and Marty, her brother-in-law. Gaby’s four children all have stories of their own. Claire is married to a man who drinks too much, gets high smoking weed and doesn’t help with the three children. Her oldest son is starting to have the same issues as the dad. What will Claire do? Emmy is a high-powered lawyer constantly on the run. Her husband is resident in neurology. Emmy is hoping to make partner in the law firm, but doesn’t like the way her boss makes passes at her. She is starting to question if this is the place she belongs. Lizzie is married to Mike who owns a hardware store. They have an eight-year-old daughter. Mike is going through chemo for recently diagnosed cancer. Seth lives in Boston with his girlfriend Andie and is hoping to get his first novel published. Andie lost her parents years ago in a car accident. While preparing books to go on the library shelves, I have noticed the vast number of books written by James Patterson. Even though this may not be one of his typical books, I had to try to read at least one. It was delightful!Emmy is a high-powered lawyer constantly on the run. Her husband is resident in neurology. Emmy is hoping to make partner in the law firm, but doesn’t like the way her boss makes passes at her. She is starting to question if this is the place she belongs.

Seeking a Friend for the End of the World DVD, 2012 Steve Carell and Keira Knightley lead an all-star cast in this clever and heartwarming comedy that explores the crazy things people do when humanity's last days are at hand. Set in a too-near future, two neighbors, Dodge (Carell) and Penny (Knightley), react in their own unique ways to the announcement that a 70-mile-wide asteroid is en route to the Earth. He wants to return to his first love. She just wants to get back to her family. As the unlikely companions' respective journeys converge, their outlooks – if not the world's – brighten in surprising and hilarious ways. The feature directorial debut of screenwriter Lorene Scafaria (Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist ), Seeking a Friend for the End of the World is a funny and cleverly entertaining romantic comedy.

I Kill Giants (graphic novel) by Joe Kelly, art by Ken Niimura I Kill Giants tells the story of Barbara Thorson, an acerbic fifth-grader so consumed with fantasy that she doesn't just tell people that she kills giants with an ancient Norse warhammer ― she starts to believe it herself. The reasons for Barbara's troubled behavior are revealed through the course of the book, as she learns to reconcile her fantasy life with the real world. In 2012, I Kill Giants writer Joe Kelley and artist J.M. Ken Niimura received the International Manga Award, an honor given by the Japanese Foreign Ministry to an outstanding comic book or graphic novel.

It Happened in Wisconsin:

Badger Boneyards

Monday, July 18th, 6PM Join us for a discussion around the book:

BADGER BONEYARDS The Eternal Rest of the Story

by Dennis McCann. Limited copies available for check out. Calling all history buffs to join us for “It Happened in Wisconsin”, our very own history club at the library dedicated to the history of our state.

The bodies are buried, but the stories are not. From the ornate tombs of Milwaukee beer barons to displaced Chippewa graves and miniscule family plots, Badger Boneyards: The Eternal Rest of the Story unearths the stories of Wisconsin. Football great John Heisman is buried here, as is the state's smallest man, a woman whose tombstone names her murderer, and the boy who would not tell a lie and paid the price. Readers who find typical love stories too saccharine may enjoy the novel, Part of Your World (2022) by Abby Jimenez. With characters who deal with real-world problems such as emotional abuse, physical abuse, and depression, Jimenez’ story offers more substance than typical romance novels. When Dr. Alexis Montgomery’s car ends up in a ditch, she discovers while her car is unchanged, her life has certainly been altered. Still healing after a breakup from a long-term relationship with a narcissistic and emotionally abusive partner, she is open to an uncommitted short-term fling with her tow-truck driver, Daniel Grant. It appears to be a classic case of opposites attracting each other. Alexis comes from a very wealthy family and moves in rarified circles of wealth and prestige. Daniel is ten years younger than Alexis, lives in a small rural town two hours away from her home, runs a bed and breakfast in the tourist season, and is raising a baby goat. Could this relationship be anything other than “just one of those things”? The audiobook is approximately 10 hours long. Julia Whelan provides the voice for Alexis’ character, and Zachary Webber provides Daniel’s voice. While the audiobook is very good, if listeners need resources to deal with emotional or physical abuse, the printed book, they are included only in book format. Part of Your World is available in book format through Monarch and available in digital book and Eaudio formats through Libby.

Sharyn would like to recommend this title:

Obsession by Karen Robards New York Times bestselling author of over 50 novels, Karen Robards has been accurately been described as "one of the most reliable thriller.. writers in the world." A popular voice in women's fiction, she adeptly merges mystery and romance in action-packed, easy-to-follow page turners that incorporate appealing characters who generally tend to fall in love while on the run. The bad guys get well deserved justice and a happy ending is a guarantee! In 'Obsession', Katherine, a beautiful young woman with an enviable life, survives a horrific attack only to wake up in the hospital with the absolute certainly that she is definitely not the person everybody believes her to be! With only her instincts to guide her through this shadowy world of conspiracy, this cat and mouse tale of love on the run and murder for hire leaves no clues who can be trusted when nobody is actually who they seem! Hang on tight as the master of suspense provides just enough detail that you think you know exactly what is going on - until its not. A strong hero and heroine with chemistry and a suspenseful plot keep the pages of this quick, enjoyable read turning, but without keeping you laying awake at night.

Steven would like to recommend this title:

Anticipation: a novel by Melodie Winaver From the author of the “engrossing historical epic” (Booklist) The Scribe of Siena comes a thrilling tale set in the crumbling city of Mystras, Greece, in which a scientist’s vacation with her young son quickly turns into a fight for their lives after they cross paths with a man out of time. Blending the historical romance of Diana Gabaldon, the rich detail of Philippa Gregory’s novels, and Dan Brown’s fast-paced suspense, Anticipation is a thrilling and satisfying read like no other.

CSI Las Vegas, Season 1, DVD, 2003 A dedicated group of forensic investigators at the Las Vegas Crime Lab works to solve often-grisly crimes in Sin City. Heading up the graveyard shift (an appropriate term in this case) is supervisor D.B. Russell, a "Left Coast" Sherlock Holmes who devours crime novels. Members of Russell's team include Julie Finlay, Nick Stokes, Sara Sidle (the team's moral compass), Greg Sanders and Morgan Brody. The investigative team works closely with Capt. Jim Brass -- a seasoned detective who is a protector of CSI -- Dr. Al Robbins -- medical examiner -- and quirky lab technician David Hodges. Previous leaders of the group include Gil Grissom and Dr. Ray Langston.
