Hope, our Collection Developer would like to recommend this title:

The Stranger in the Woods: The Extraordinary Story of the Last True Hermit by Michael Finkel Many people dream of escaping modern life. Most will never act on it—but in 1986, twenty-year-old Christopher Knight did just that when he left his home in Massachusetts, drove to Maine, and disappeared into the woods. He would not have a conversation with another person for the next twentyseven years. Drawing on extensive interviews with Knight himself, journalist Michael Finkel shows how Knight lived in a tent in a secluded encampment, developing ingenious ways to store provisions and stave off frostbite during the winters. A former alarm technician, he stealthily broke into nearby cottages for food, books, and supplies, taking only what he needed but sowing unease in a community plagued by his mysterious burglaries. Since returning to the world, he has faced unique challenges—and compelled us to reexamine our assumptions about what makes a good life. By turns riveting and thought-provoking, The Stranger in the Woods gives us a deeply moving portrait of a man determined to live his own way.

Miss Julie would like to recommend this title:

Out of My Mind by Sharon M. Draper "Eleven-year-old Melody has a photographic memory. Her head is like a video camera that is always recording. Always. And there's no delete button. She's the smartest kid in her whole school--but no one knows it. Most people--her teachers and doctors included--don't think she's capable of learning, and up until recently her school days consisted of listening to the same preschool-level alphabet lessons again and again and again. If only she could speak up, if only she could tell people what she thinks and knows ... but she can't, because Melody can't talk. She can't walk. She can't write." "Being stuck inside her head is making Melody go out of her mind--that is, until she discovers something that will allow her to speak for the first time ever. At last Melody has a voice ... but not everyone around her is ready to hear it."--Jacket description.

It Happened in Wisconsin:

Badger Boneyards

Monday, July 18th, 6PM Join us for a discussion around the book:

BADGER BONEYARDS The Eternal Rest of the Story

by Dennis McCann. Limited copies available for check out. Calling all history buffs to join us for “It Happened in Wisconsin”, our very own history club at the library dedicated to the history of our state.

The bodies are buried, but the stories are not. From the ornate tombs of Milwaukee beer barons to displaced Chippewa graves and miniscule family plots, Badger Boneyards: The Eternal Rest of the Story unearths the stories of Wisconsin. Football great John Heisman is buried here, as is the state's smallest man, a woman whose tombstone names her murderer, and the boy who would not tell a lie and paid the price. Martin, our Collection Developing and Adult Services Coordinator would like to recommend this title:

Mothering Sunday , DVD, 2022 Exquisite! That will be the word I will use to describe this film adaptation based on the eponymous book by Graham Swift included as well on this listing. The story which it may seem at first sight to dwell on issues of class, specially British class structure, something that has been portrayed perfectly well on similar films like Atonement or The Remains of the Day, both based out of outstanding books as well, evolves into a story of self-discovery by the main protagonist, Jane, who in the 1920s, while working as a maid falls for a neighbor who is a couple of steps higher on the social ladder, in what turns to be a passionate love affair that based on the impression one gets from the movie (since I have not read the book), it burns fast like a match (no meaning to throw a dark humor pun here if you happen to see the movie or happen to read the book), but still leaving a deep impression that while it may come across as a deep wound, in reality is a lesson of life learned at early age by the protagonist, a lesson which will go into influence her greatly in the future. A beautifully filmed feature, with a strong sense of visual poetry, beautiful writing and superb acting that will leave you satisfied as if you just came back from an English afternoon tea.

Rita would like to recommend these titles:

Are you a victim of emotional abuse? Do you have a partner/coworker/friend or other person in your life that everyone thinks is wonderful, but behind closed doors is emotionally manipulative or cruel? Has this person taken your sense of self, your personal agency? If so, Healing from

Hidden Abuse: A Journey Through the Stages of Recovery from Psychological Abuse (2017) by Shannon A. Thomas, LCSW, may be a useful resource. Thomas describes hidden abuse: “Hidden abuse involves psychological, emotional, and/or financial harm against a target. The cryptic nature of hidden abuse often goes undetected by those closest to the victim. Psychological abuse leaves no bruises. There are no broken bones. There are no holes in the walls. The bruises, brokenness, and holes are held tightly within the target of the abuse. Adults and children/teens can be victims of hidden abuse. It is a form of harm that impacts all income demographics, geographical locations, languages, and cultures.” Thomas is a therapist and survivor of psychological abuse herself. Healing from Hidden Abuse is written in clear, easy-tounderstand language.

Healing from Hidden Abuse is available only in Eaudio format through Libby.

Sharyn would like to recommend this title:

Shrek, DVD & Blu-Ray, 2001 Often praised as "the greatest movie of all times" and specifically lauded as "the most surprising and cinematically exciting motion picture seen in many a month...it comes close to being the most sensational film ever made in Hollywood" by the New York Times, this Academy Award winner for best animated feature is so chock full of clever elements of comedy and fantasy woven together with a lifetime of nostalgia that it truly provides a full hour and 30 minutes of fun for viewers of all ages. Produced by industry behemoth Dream Works Animation, creator of many other additional awardwinning films for global audiences, such as Madagascar, How to Train your Dragon, and Trolls, and starring the voices of notables Mike Meyers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz and John Lithgow, the Shrek franchise, not surprisingly, has additionally claimed awards for Favorite Animated Movie Star (Donkey- Eddie Murphy), as well as Favorite Movie Comedy, Movie Villain and down the line, Favorite Sequal for its second production. Without spoiling a movie that is so worth the watch, the storyline begins in a faraway and serene swamp, where an often ostracized ogre named Shrek finds his solitude shattered by an invasion of endearing (to us) but annoying (to him) fairy tale characters who have been banished from their kingdom by the not surprising, evil Lord Farquaad. In effort to save his home, as well as his sanity, Shrek embarks on a journey to confront the evil Lord, return his new found friends to their rightful home, and rescue a beautiful princess, while discovering a secret in the process that will forever change the lives of all involved. Absolutely 5 stars! A truly fun, unique adventure that is full of clever, individual pieces that when all coupled together create one truly satisfying whole!

Steven would like to recommend this title:

SHREK, Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. 2001-CD Audio Shrek was unique in that it used pop music and other oldies to move the story forward. Covers of songs like "On the Road Again" and "Try a Little Tenderness" were integrated in the film's score.[1] As the film was about to be completed, Katzenberg suggested the filmmakers redo the film's ending in order to "go out with a big laugh"; instead of ending the film with a storybook closing over Shrek and Fiona as they ride off into the sunset, they decided to add the song "I'm a Believer" by Smash Mouth and show all the fairytale creatures in the film.[2] Description from publisher.

Once I Was a Beehive, DVD, 2015 "Lane Speer is a 16 year old girl who spends her family vacations camping in the mountains. She takes the memories for granted until she loses her father to an unexpected bout with cancer. Only a year later, as Lane is still reeling from her father's death, her mother remarries a guy that Lane hardly knows. Even more confusing, he is a Mormon. To top it off, while her mom is away on her honeymoon with her new husband, Lane is forced to stay with her Mormon step-aunt who takes her away to a bible-themed girls camp with a bunch of Mormon teens. Confronted with memories of camping with her family, she tries to find peace with her new surroundings and deal with the death of her father" -- Decription from publisher.

BACK TO THE FUTURE, DVD, 1985 It's the mid-80's, and Marty McFly is your average 17-year-old slacker who happens to be friends with an inventor, Doc Brown. Doc's latest invention is a time machine, that ends up transporting Marty back to 1955 where he must bring his parents together so that he will exist when he gets back to his own time.
