The Spider Table
OSCAR MORTON
Initial inspiration came from the Donkey Penguin and the use of storage
Repetition and symmetry became a key feature. At this point my direction switched to a table rather than storage
Incorporating movable pieces to them combine them with graphical intricate shapes seemed to change the direction further
Providing depth added interest and another dimension to the project
Concluding with layering and pattern finishes off the development section

My own interpretation of what was needed in my project
Using Nature in my work. Biomimicry was the forefront of my design and the direction that the project ended up at
Words used to define Tom Faulkner as a designer and a company. These words need to be emulated in my final product
Thinking of best material. Using a mixture of the brand as well as my own idea’s produced either a metallic or wooden product
The spider web was a key proccess in the development of the project
Tom Faulkner table provided a clean quirky product to take inspiration from

Luxottica vs Luxottica
TAKEN OVER BY LUXOTTICA IN 1999
Initial designs lead me to looking into big companies that are unethical and are cheating the system
Followed by the ex-partnership between that of Shell and Lego and how controversial that was
Came across Luxottica, direction of project completely changed
Lots of different aspects to pick up on the company. Then the project needed some refinement
Ended up playing with words and names, example above shows “cornering the market etc
OSCAR MORTON
= ALL COMPANIES OWNED BY LUXOTTICA
HOW WOULD YOU COMPETE AGAINST A BOARD LIKE THIS?
= ALL COMPANIES OWNED BY LUXOTTICA
IT’S BY NO CHANCE THAT THE SUNGLASS MAKET HAS BEEN COMPLETELY DOMINATED
HOW WOULD YOU COMPETE AGAINST A BOARD LIKE THIS? YOUR MOVE
YOUR MOVE
Luxottica was the route that was chosen.
Following on from this it was playing around with different graphics and heading to see what worked and what didn't
Taking influence from multiple sources such as war posters and campaigns to see what worked best
The challenge was to see if people could work out what a “Monopoly” in business is without spelling out
This should then inform the viewer and make them think about what they are actually buying into
OSCAR MORTON
The Final outcome aimed to make people work out the Monopoly of the sunglasses market. But it can only be done when it takes that extra second of time to work out
Luxottica makes sunglasses for these
A monopoly is characterized by an absence of competition, which often results in high prices and inferior products.
Most sunglasses are manufactured by a single company, named Luxottica. The Italian company makes frames and sunglasses for an substancial list of brands and stores, including:
A MONOPOLY IS ILLEGAL, HOW ARE LUXOTTICA GETTING AWAY WITH THIS?
OSCAR MORTON
Aim of the in situ board was to show the irony of the people hiding behind their glass wear yet Luxottica is a hidden company. By adding my in situ in the background of the images it just plays with how the company is hiding everything.
