NEGATIVE NEWTOWN M. Arch Yr.2 Illicit Campus

The studio directed by William Feuerman, was part of a group interested in issues related to the definition of the metropolis. For this reason, we were assigned a set of projects in Sydney that we could compared with in the city of New York. As a consequence, our study delievered analysis of structure, iconography, relation to context and so, which were implemented for the final project. The final project was the Cahill Expressway or better known as Circular Quay Train Station. The proposal aim for exagerating the gesture of this structure by blocking the view from the city towards the harbour, creating intimate moments within the final geometry. At the end, our intention is not to reject the existing structure but to perceive it as a case where ideas can expose a multiple set of opportunities for such a controversial site.

The studio directed by William Feuerman, was part of a group interested in issues related to the definition of the metropolis. For this reason, we were assigned a set of projects in Sydney that we could compared with in the city of New York.

of structure, iconography, relation to context and so, which were implemented for the final project.

22.11.13

The final project was the Cahill Expressway or better known as Circular Quay Train Station. The proposal aim for exagerating the gesture of this structure by blocking the view from the city towards the harbour, creating intimate moments within the final geometry. At the end, our intention is not to reject the existing structure but to perceive it as a case where ideas can expose a multiple set of opportunities for such a controversial site.

INCLINED REALITIES M. Arch Yr.2

Projections - Elements The studio directed by Michael Holt and Marissa Looby, was a group dedicated to the study of an architectural element. All students were encourage to study, understand and produce a set of rules so the element could be utilize in 3 different scales and reveal new challenges. Inclined realities explores this process by the use of the ANGLE, present in many of architecture’s applications. Thus, this ELEMENT could be constructive, perceptual or spatial quality. As a consequence, throughout the semester the exploration is applied in a final proposal. The [investigation] passed through a series of modular experiments, starting from the basic form of a cube until a deconstructed boundary. The process is based on how the angle can defined by the ground plane, the wall and circulation. As a result, it summarises a collection of possible outcomes and permits a congruent discussion about a common and used element in architecture and how by having a free brief, we can start to see common elements in a different way.

Ghost and the Machine The studio was under the direction of Joanne Patternson. The purpose of the studio was question the public transport in Sydney, and the lack of thoughtful infrastructure for the city. For that reason, we focus on Beulah St Wharf, which beyond being an unutilized wharf station, it has the potential to overcome its limitations and become something bigger than its original use. The project attempted to use the ferry’s structural frames for the introduction of public programs, allowing the creation of a large circuit along the Sydney Harbour. It consisted in a set of explaorations in terms of structure and opportunities through planning.

AT DIFFERENCE FROM THE PREVIOUS DIAGRAM, THE SECOND DEMONSTRATES THE RESPOND AND DESIRE FOR EXTENDING THE TRANSPORT SERVICE, COMPELLING WITH THE CURRENT AND UPCOMING HIGH DEMAND IN THE HARBOUR. AT THE SAME TIME, THIS TRANSPORT PROPOSAL ACTIVATES AREAS IN WHICH THE PROJECT HAD THE CHANCE TO INTERVENED, WITH THE SPECIF PURSPOSE OF BECAMING PART OF THE LONG CONNECTED SYDNEY’S CIRCUIT.

DIAGRAM SHOWING THE CURRENT TRACK OF SYDNEY’S FERRIES, AS WELL AS, THE DIFFERENT PROGRAMS THROUGHOUT THE CONTEXT OF SYDNEY’S HARBOUR. THE IMPORTANCE TO UNDERSTAND THE LOCATION AND ROLE OF THEM, DELIVERS TO THE PROJECT A FEELING OF HOW MUCH POPULATION CONCENTRATES AROUND THEM. INDEED, THIS DIAGRAM DEMONSTRATES THE QUALITY OF THE SPACE BETWEEN THEM, EXPOSING THE POSSIBLITY TO EXPLORE THEM EVEN MORE.

SYSTEMATIC TOWER B. Arch Yr.2 Performance

The project proposed an external exoskeleton for the new UTS facade, allowing it to respond to environmental issues related to the performance of light shading during the year as well as the collection of water for further uses. The design of the facade searches to reshape the image of the university, while its structural elements have the purpose of transporting and conditioning the temperature of the internal spaces. Thus, the facade has an internal and external program for efficiency of the building.
