KISSIMMEE UTILITY AUTHORITY BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Kissimmee, FL — Kissimmee Utility Authority has received national recognition for achieving exceptional electric reliability in 2022. The recognition comes from the American Public Power Association (APPA), a trade group that represents more than 2,000 not-for-profit, community-owned electric utilities.

APPA helps electric utilities track power outage and restoration data through its subscription-based eReliability Tracker service. Once per year, APPA’s Reliability Team compares this data to national statistics tracked by the U.S. Energy Information Administration for all types of electric utilities.

“We are honored to receive this recognition,” said Brian Horton, President and General Manager of Kissimmee Utility Authority. “It is a testament to the hard work of all our staff to ensure that we keep Kissimmee powered.”

On average, KUA customers were out of service for 34 minutes in 2022, compared to all U.S. electric utilities, who were out for 140 minutes. Our Cane Island Power Plant’s Units 3 and 4 combined availabilities again exceeded the national average with an availability factor of 89.63%.

“It’s encouraging to see year after year that public power’s track record for providing highly reliable service is backed up by data,” said APPA Director of Research and Development Paul Zummo. “These utilities are the best of the best when it comes to keeping the lights on. And these communities should be proud of their local power providers and appreciate the hard work that goes into earning this recognition.

Members of the Kissimmee Utility Authority’s Board of Directors are non‐paid officials who serve as policymakers for the utility. This is a five‐year term beginning October 1, 2023. Applicants for this seat must be qualified electors within the City of Kissimmee city limits. The charter of the utility requires that members “have demonstrated a successful business or professional management career.” The current outgoing Board member is not eligible for reappointment.
