Forever Barnwood has a deep appreciation for the simple beauty and rustic charm of barnwood. But we know how limited the options are in sourcing reclaimed wood, with an aging process that naturally takes years. For this reason, we devised a patent pending treatment process that captures the unique qualities of barnwood with a quicker turnaround time, unlimited quantities, reasonable or no lead-times, all at a more affordable price.

At Forever Barnwood, we use recently harvested Wisconsin white pine, but that is only the beginning of the story. We use the part of the pine tree that is typically discarded by loggers or made into pulp. In a way, we like to consider our process “green.” We use the part of the tree with all the character – the part of the tree with the most knots, color and wormholes. We like blue stain, water stain and about any imperfections that nature can grace a piece of pine.

Since 1985, the California Homebuilding Foundation has annually honored outstanding individuals who exemplify leadership, innovation, and philanthropy in the homebuilding industry. Each inductee is a trailblazer in their chosen field and is passionately dedicated to continuing the California Homebuilding Foundation’s mission of forging a bright future for the building workforce of the next generation.

This year’s inductees have respectively dedicated their careers to creating solutions for the state’s housing needs in areas such as innovative placemaking, workforce and affordable housing, architectural design and land planning, and economic development.

The 2022 inductees are Lucy Dunn (Orange County Business Council), Emile Haddad (FivePoint Holdings, LLC), Nancy Keenan (DAHLIN Group Architecture | Planning), Linda Mandolini (Eden Housing) and John W. Norman (Brookfield Properties Development).

The five individuals will be inducted during the California Homebuilding Foundation’s 37th annual Hall of Fame gala on June 21, 2022, in San Francisco. This year’s gala will celebrate the lifetime achievements of these five remarkable professionals with an in-person formal induction ceremony and video presentation.

New Qwik Jon Choice & Premier Upflush Toilet Systems Zoeller recently added two new products to its upflush solutions lineup. Both are great options that make it easy and cost effective for anyone to install a bathroom anywhere that wastewater removal is necessary, but gravity drainage is cost prohibitive. You can avoid living in a dusty construction zone for months when adding a new bathroom. There’s no need to spend money breaking concrete to dig when you can stay above grade with a Zoeller Qwik Jon. The Qwik Jon Choice is great if you’re looking for a more cost-effective option without sacrificing any dependability. The Choice comes pre-assembled, allowing for a quick and easy installation at the jobsite. It has a white, durable, ABS tank with a slim footprint and a clean, polished look. It has a builtin handle on either side with finger grips, making it easy to handle on the jobsite.

Below the handles, there are 2" NPT recessed side inlets that accept 1.5" PVC when connecting to other fixtures such as a tub, sink, or shower. On the top of the system, there is a 1½" vent connection as well as a 1" connection for the discharge line that can be reduced to ¾" if needed.

The entire lid to the tank is snap-fit to make inspection and maintenance quick and easy. There are also some quick access ports on the top of the system that allow you to inspect and maintain the unit without having to remove the lid and piping. One gives you access to the junction box and float mechanism and the other gives you access to the cutter and cutter basket. The Qwik Jon Choice is a 1/3 HP Macerator and the first thing that the waste sees when it comes into the system is the cutting mechanism. Its performance is a little less than that of the Premier, in that it’s rated to handle toilet paper and organic waste only – making it a good fit for residential applications.

The system is able to achieve 26' of shutoff head and 33 GPM of flow.

The Qwik Jon Premier has a lot of the same physical features of the Choice, but its footprint is slightly larger and its lid doesn’t come with the quick access ports. This was designed this way because the pump in this system is superior to that of the Choice. The Premier comes pre-assembled with a true 1/2 HP grinder pump capable of handling toilet paper, organic waste, sanitary items and

It’s important to understand that the technology in this 1/2 HP grinder pump is the same technology used in Zoeller’s 2 HP and larger commercial grade grinder pumps. 3D printing technology is not new. It has been used for small-scale part production since the 1980s, but has only just made its way into the construction business.

Construction with 3D printing technology can provide opportunities in building design and construction. Many jurisdictions are looking to this technology to assist in resolving the homelessness crisis. Other areas that have been explored in the advancement of 3D printed construction are infrastructure development and planetary construction.

While mortar and clay have been seen in some projects as materials for 3D printing, their mechanical properties are not as suitable for building construction as concrete is. The main advantage of

using concrete is that it is the most widely used construction material in the world. To address this, an Acceptance Criteria document (AC509) for 3D concrete walls has been developed by ICC Evaluation Service.

AC509 is the first normative document of its kind for 3D automated construction technology and concrete used to construct interior and exterior 3D concrete walls. This acceptance criteria establishes guidelines for evaluation of the material and durability properties of proprietary 3D concrete and the structural performance of 3D concrete walls. It addresses International Building Code® objectives that include quality, strength, effectiveness, fire resistance, durability and structural safety.

At Home Chooses Cypress Waters for New Home Office Construction is underway on a new home office for At Home, the Home Décor Superstore. The four-story campus will be located in Cypress Waters at the southeast intersection of Cypress Waters Boulevard and Saintsbury Street in Dallas, adjacent to Peña Park. The 260,000 square-foot build-to-suit includes approximately 182,000 square feet of office space plus a 78,000 squarefoot Design Center to include a mock store, photo and video studios.
