ETIQUETTE HOCKEY
While we score goals on the ice, our goal off the ice is to make sure all of #GensNation has the best game experience possible! We’ve made a list of some important reminders for all fans to keep in mind so that everyone’s night out is a special one.
1. WAIT FOR THE WHISTLE TO ENTER AND EXIT SEATING AREA
A lot can happen in a split second of hockey action – and we don’t want anyone to miss anything. Fans who move from their seat during play can block the view of an entire section of fans. Please wait until a whistle blows to make any move to and from your seats.
QUICK TIP - There will always be extended stoppages following the first whistle after the 14:00 & 6:00 minute marks of a period (unless there is an icing, goal, or the start of a power play – just listen for the buzzer!)
2. BE MINDFUL OF THOSE AROUND YOU
Trust us, we know the games will have you at the edge of your seat, but if you lean too far forward, you’ll block the view of those around you. There isn’t a bad seat in the building, so sit back and enjoy the game!
3. KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE PUCK
Things move quickly at our games, including flying sticks and pucks. Keep your eye on the puck at all times to avoid any potential injuries!
4. NON-SMOKING FACILITY
The Tribute Communities Centre is a non-smoking, no re-entry facility. Smoking of any kind, including e-cigarettes, on TCC property, is prohibited.
5. HOCKEY IS FOR EVERYONE
We don’t expect everyone to be best friends with the Petes’ fans – some things just don’t mix. But, we do think it’s pretty cool they’re coming to our building to enjoy the same great game we love. Please be aware of those sitting around you, including children and let the play on the ice do the talking. Abusive and inappropriate language will NOT be tolerated.
6. HAVE FUN
Get loud, cheer, and let your favourite team on the ice know you’re behind them – Afterall, hockey is the best sport out there.

AROUND THE OHL
WRITTEN BY: CARTER SMITH
The Ottawa 67’s find themselves in quite the battle for the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference sitting three points behind the North Bay Battalion. Ottawa has seen a slight uptick in play after starting the 2025 year very slow, going 4-6-0-0 in their last 10 games. A big problem for the 67’s has been their special teams as they have dropped around six percent in powerplay percentage from the first half of the season while they still carry the worst penalty kill in the league.
STEELHEADS
The Brampton Steelheads have really turned things around in the second half of the season as they find themselves sitting in fifth place in the Eastern Conference. Bolstering the highest-powered offence in the Eastern Conference, the Steelheads have had no trouble putting the puck in the back of the net. Combine that with their physical game and it is clear to see why they are on the rise.

OWEN SOUND ATTACK
The Owen Sound Attack are on the outside looking in at the moment, but that could change very quickly as they only sit one point behind the Sarnia Sting for the eighth seed. Of the teams fighting for the least spot in the Western Conference they are the only one in the last 10 games that does not have a losing record going 5-4-1-1 over that stretch. A strong penalty kill mixed with good disciple to go along with one of the best goalies in the league, this may not be their year but there are clear signs of where they are headed.
FLINT FIREBIRDS
The Flint Firebirds seem to be getting their game in line at the correct time of the year winning four in a row. Flint has been up and down all season, but when they are playing like they are now the Firebirds can be a hard team to face off against, carrying a lot of speed while also possessing the ability to physically match almost any team in the league. Flint’s biggest problem this season has been their powerplay, as they are firing at a 13.7% rate good for second worst in the OHL.

GENS REWIND:
A GLIMPSE OF THE PAST
WRITTEN BY: CARTER SMITH
Just about a year ago the Oshawa Generals made a push that saw them leapfrog most of the Eastern Conference on their way to an Eastern Conference Championship.
After a troubling first half to the 2023-24 season the Generals found themselves fighting for a playoff spot late into December. But a couple additions would completely flip that.
Gens general manager Roger Hunt made a couple key trades that brought a whole new identity to a team that looked like it had an untapped potential, bringing in a pair of over agers in Connor Lockhart and Connor Punnett.
Both guys came in and were not afraid to be themselves brining a swagger and edge to the Oshawa Generals that was not there in the first half of the season.
It took a little bit of time for the additions to settle in to the team and their new surroundings, but after a .500 month of February the Generals would get red hot rattling off 12 straight wins, failing to drop a game in the month of March.
“When I look back and really think about it our turn of play started in the overtime win against Erie,” said Roger Hunt. “Getting Lockhart back after a tough loss to the IceDogs was a big boost to the locker room.”
But it was not just the wins that help teams get on track.
“Just before we went on our run there was a bad loss to the Ottawa 67’s,” added the Gens GM. “I think that one really opened our teams’ eyes.”
That it did! It was all up from there not losing another game the entire regular season, locking down the top spot in the Eastern Conference.
It was not an easy journey to that 12-win streak beating the eventual league champs the London Knights on the road, while squeaking out a couple narrow overtime wins against the Kitchener Rangers and the Mississauga Steelheads.
Now that would be nice for this year’s team, but what the Gens really need is to continue their strong play and keep building for the playoffs as they look to build on last years deep run.

PREVIEW GAME DAY
WRITTEN BY: CARTER SMITH
The Oshawa Generals return to the Tribute Communities Centre to take on the London Knights in a rematch of last season’s OHL Championship.
Oshawa is coming off a tough 5-3 loss to the Brantford Bulldogs on Friday night in what was a battle for the top spot in the Eastern Conference. Despite the loss the Gens have still been playing strong hockey with a record of 7-3-0-0 in their last 10 games.
The London Knights have been the best team in the Ontario Hockey League almost all season long. With that the Knights are coming off a loss to the Niagara IceDogs, good news for London is they have not lost two games in a row since October.
It was in December that these two teams went toe-to-toe in London, and it was the Generals getting the best of the Knights 5-3.
The game started off all London as Blake Montgomery was able to get one past Isaac Gravelle before Easton Cowan struck later in the first period opening up a two-goal lead in the first period.
To start the second period things went from bad to worse as London would strike again giving the Knights a 3-0 lead under one minute in.
It was a couple of hits by defencemen Zackary Sandhu and Ben Danford that seemed to turn things around as both Luca Marrelli and Colby Barlow each buried goals cutting the lead to one headed to the final frame.
Oshawa was not finished there, Tyler Graham found the back of the net tying things at 3-3, but the comeback did not stop there as Danford fired a shot from the point that seemed to have eyes finding its way though traffic and into the net.
Before the game was done the Generals would add one more through Beckett Sennecke who gave fans a goal of the year candidate beating a London d-man before going bar down making it 5-3 Gens.
RECAP LAST GAME
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 28TH
WRITTEN BY: ALEX CHAMPAGNE
The Oshawa Generals travelled to Brantford to face off against the Bulldogs for the eighth and final time of the regular season, holding a 2-3-1-1 record against them so far. Coming off a strong 6-1 victory over the Kingston Frontenacs, the Generals were riding a two-game win streak. The Bulldogs, on the other hand, entered the game with a one-game win streak of their own. Both teams were eager to extend their runs, but it was the Brantford Bulldogs who ultimately came out on top, winning 5-3.
The Bulldogs struck first in the opening period as New Jersey Devils prospect Cole Brown slipped one past Jacob Oster, scoring his 30th goal of the season off a pass from Patrick Thomas just over three minutes in. Brantford maintained their lead for most of the period until Oshawa’s Owen Griffin fired a top-corner shot past Brantford goalie Ryerson Leenders, assisted by Ethan Martin. This marks Griffin’s third straight game with a goal. The teams headed into the second period tied at one.
The second period remained tied at one for most of the frame until late in the period when the Generals went on the power play. Owen Griffin capitalized, scoring his second goal of the night and 16th of the season with under five minutes remaining. However, the lead was short-lived. Exactly two minutes later, Cole Brown of the Bulldogs answered with his second goal of the night, assisted once again by Patrick Thomas. The teams headed into the intermission tied at two.
Both teams came out fired up for the third period, exchanging chances early on. However, it was Chicago Blackhawks prospect Nick Lardis who broke the deadlock, scoring on the power play with just over 10 minutes remaining to give the Bulldogs a one-goal lead and his 64th of the season. Less than a minute later, Lardis struck again, this time at even strength, extending Brantford’s lead to two goals and notching his 65th of the season with an assist from Cole Brown.
With the clock winding down, things werent looking great for the Generals as they faced a two-goal deficit. But with under four minutes to go, Nashville Predators prospect Andrew Gibson squeezed a shot past the Brantford goaltender from an impressive angle, assisted by Zackary Sandhu, giving Oshawa a glimmer of hope. The Generals pulled goaltender Jacob Oster with just under a minute remaining in an effort to tie the game, but Thomas Budnick called game with an empty-net goal with 19 seconds on the clock, securing a 5-3 win for the Bulldogs.
The Oshawa Generals return to home ice this Sunday to take on the London Knights for the second and final time this season.

FROM PLAYER TO COACH:
BRAD MALONE’S JOURNEY TO LEADING THE OSHAWA GENERALS
WRITTEN BY: TOMAS MORGAN
The Oshawa Generals have hired Brad Malone as the interim head coach, a quick turnaround from his playing career to his coaching one.
He played over 750 professional hockey games between the NHL and AHL with Colorado, Carolina, Chicago and Edmonton’s organization before retiring in the spring of 2024. Malone was known for his big body, two-way game and liked to insert himself physically on every shift.
This play made him a leader in the locker room and earned him the captaincy in Bakersfield, for the last four seasons of his playing career.
“Communication is crucial,” said Malone. “A clear message on expectations of what is needed by everyone on the ice. The details that are part of the game need to be communicated on a daily basis.”
This is a key trait that Brad brought to the Generals organization when he was hired as a player development coach before the season started.
It did not take long to make his imprint on the organization as a leader. One on one interviews with players are a massive part of building their character, ensuring a strong team foundation.
Once November rolled around, Brad was promoted to assistant coach where his role changed. He was able to use his playing experience to help players make adjustments on the fly.
“The ability to make suggestions and corrections in game. Everything happens so fast at ice level,” added the interim bench boss. “Being able to immediately give the individuals feedback was a major difference.”
On December 9th, Brad Malone was named the Interim Head Coach after the organization let Steve O’Rourke go.
Now that Brad is the Head Coach, he sends a clear message to the team.
“Everyone has a seat at the table and [everyone] will be held to the same standard,” explained the newly appointed coach. “Nobody is above the team. Protect the house and work for each other.”
