Article Feature The Influence of Community Service Written by Jennifer Norris
Community Service is one of the most beneficial ways to improve the society around you and influence kindness. After the pandemic, the start of my sophomore year, I wanted to make new memories and friends, and Key Club seemed like the perfect place to do just that. I slowly grew to love the club and all of the people in it. I was surrounded by kind people, willing to sacrifice their time and money to help people they may never get to meet. At its core, giving back and helping others shows the good in humanity. Community service is more than just ticking a box for your college application, it’s a dedication to do all you can to better yourself and those around you. It’s an eye-opening experience and heartwarming to know that your effort is helping people in need. Some of the community organizations I have helped are Feed The Kids, Allies In Youth, Toys For Tots, the Angel Tree Program, Stand for the Silent, Canned Food drives, and countless others. You may be asking, why? Why would you go out of your way to do something that you may not even see the true impact of? Because no matter how little, serving your community and donating to these organizations can irrevocably impact someone’s life. Even the smallest act of kindness can change someone‘s life for the better, or cause a chain reaction that influences others to help. If we all work together to build a better, caring community, we’re one step closer to reducing violence and saving lives.
