... Oshkosh Symphony Orchestra Oshkosh Community Players Hysterical Productions
David Lange • Michelle Gress • Shawna Terry • Joe Ferlo
Welcome to The Grand’s 2016-17 Season! We’re pleased to present a diverse series that includes nearly thirty touring artists and attractions. We’re also pleased to offer as a part of subscriber discounts, the offerings of our three Arts Partners– the Oshkosh Symphony Orchestra, Oshkosh Community Players and Hysterical Productions. Among the highlights are two non-subscription signature weekends–the Flower Power Weekend and the Alligator Records Blues Festival. Our holiday season is our busiest ever as our arts partners and community collaborators join touring artists in the “Twelve Days of Christmas Shows” (with a couple extra events sprinkled in for good measure!). This past season, the Oshkosh Opera House Foundation reorganized our experienced and dedicated staff in order to give you the highest level of service possible. David Lange (Managing Director, 15 years at The Grand) is responsible for the theater complex; Shawna Terry (Business Manager, 8 years) for the business operations; and Michelle Gress (Assistant to the Director, just completing her first year) for the marketing and donor oversight. My role as CEO has become focused on long-range and strategic planning, programming, and working directly with you and our arts partners in continuing our tradition in Downtown Oshkosh of presenting quality touring artists while raising up our citizen and student artists. Tickets are going to move quickly for this season so please plan to join us early and often. The subscriber will guarantee him or herself the best seats in the house. Mix-and-match five or more events and secure your seats now! Thank you for supporting The Grand.
Joseph Ferlo President and CEO, Oshkosh Opera House Foundation Director of the historic Grand Opera House

Until a decision is reached, these men are sequestered away in a room full of doubt, prejudice, and personal opinions. HYSTERICAL PRODUCTIONS
To a town with no future comes a girl with a past...
ALBERTA S. KIMBALL FOUNDATION SERIES “Twist” is based on Chris Lemmon’s book “A Twist of Lemmon” which tells the story of a beloved Hollywood icon, his dad, Jack Lemmon. Jack starred in over 60 films, was nominated for 8 Academy Awards and won 2 Oscars. Chris tells Jack’s story in his father’s voice and chronicles his life from birth until his death in 2001 at the age of 76. He’ll have you crying and laughing with his stories about Jack’s relationships both on and off the screen with producers, directors and legends like James Cagney, Gregory Peck, Marilyn Monroe and, of course, his best friend Walter Matthau.
Written by Door County’s American Folklore Theatre team of James Valcq and Fred Alley, this musical about a stranger moving to a small town in Wisconsin tells a story of hope, renewal and redemption, brimming with the sound of bluegrass and Americana.

ALBERTA S. KIMBALL FOUNDATION SERIES FEET DON’T FAIL ME NOW! is a dynamic tap and music performance that mixes hard-hitting percussive dance and a live rock band. Three guys and a gal combine rapid-fire tap talent with the funky styling and original lyrics of a seven-piece big, brass band sound. Add vocal percussionist Aaron “Heatbox” Heaton, the human beatbox, and it’s easy to see why this show earned a 2012 Edinburgh Festival “Spirit of the Fringe” Award.
Crystal’s emotive folk-rock-country style was catapulted from the cramped coffeehouses and cavernous subway tunnels of Chicago to millions of homes across America when she placed second in Season 9 of American Idol. Her old soul of a voice, carefree style, and “don’t mess with me” attitude set Crystal apart from the other contestants, and eventually landed the self-taught songstress performances with the like of the legendary Joe Cocker, Harry Connick, Jr., and Alanis Morrissette.

Hank Williams passion, Carter family harmonies, with a little Hee Haw mixed in for good measure, The WhiskeyBelles are an all-female trio based in Milwaukee. The Belles are widely known for captivating shows featuring their own take on classic and obscure vintage-country, Americana, folk-revival and roots-country tunes, with their witty originals sprinkled in. They’ve been compared with the Pistol Annies and the Dixie Chicks, and have personalities as big as the Texan skyline. They have a great time on stage, and they love to share the fun with their audience. Plus, there will be a liberal sprinkling of holiday cheer in their performance as well!

It’s 1959 and the day of the Sunday School Christmas Program. In the midst of holiday preparations and sprinklings of love in the air, the ladies in the church basement, in their witty, down-to-earth style, are creating their own memories from Christmases past and present as they plan the Sunday School Christmas Program. As they mend old bathrobe costumes, discuss the politics of who’s going to play the various roles, little do the ladies know what surprises are in store for them. Known for their hilarious antics and subtle charm, they are once again called upon to step in and save the day! The popular holiday episode of the musical comedy series, Church Basement Ladies.

With the holiday season comes those time-honored traditions of setting up a 6-ft fire hazard in the living room, placing your kids on the lap of an elderly alcoholic at the local mall, and gaining a solid 12 lbs from stress and seasonal lattes. Thankfully, The Second City has a holiday tradition that you can actually look forward to! With a sack full of all-new sketches, The Second City’s Holidazed & Confused Revue continues to be the holiday season’s most time-honored, riotous send-up of Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and everything in-between.

ALBERTA S. KIMBALL FOUNDATION SERIES “Some performers are meant to be on stage. They may be incandescent on the screen or inspirational in a studio, but it is on stage, in relationship with a live audience, where they shine. FRANC D’AMBROSIO is one of those performers.
Join us as we celebrate the amazing young talent in our community. This program features our four Discovery Artist competition winners performing works by Lalo, Mendelssohn, Saint-Saens and Grieg.
From the opening notes … D’Ambrosio’s rich tenor caresses each song in an embrace - sometimes tender, sometimes humorous, but always passionate - that he does not relinquish until his final bow.

It is inevitable that an audience favorite will be D’Ambrosio’s most well-known role, The Phantom of the Opera. He’s played the role more than any other actor to date and, in an expertly arranged sequence, he demonstrates why he is probably the best.” - Robert Sokol, San Francisco Examiner

“I weaned myself on pop music, so being able to sing everything from the Beatles, to Tower of Power, to Crosby, Stills & Nash, to Kenny Loggins and Van Morrison is an absolute blast for me. Not only is Vic Ferrari a great bunch of musicians to perform with, everyone in the band can sing!! What a luxury!! And as a bonus, I get to play guitar and keyboards in this show. It’s a complete win/win for the audience when a show is always new and fresh. Many fans of Vic Ferrari said it was the best show they have ever been a part of.” - Steve March-Tormé

Celebrate the lush history of the Oshkosh Symphony Orchestra with a spirited grand finale featuring symphonic masterworks and world-renowned pianist, Alpin Hong. Join us as we appreciate the past, and set into motion the future of our distinguished organization.
Shakespeare’s tale of star-crossed lovers takes the stage - a tale of true love found and tragically lost within an endless cycle of hate. Hysterical Productions put their own twist on the story, setting it in 1920s Italy - where heated romance and clashing swords come as no surprise, but the beloved tale of young lovers thwarted by politics, family, and bitter circumstance remains as familiar and heart-breaking as ever.

Kids! Don’t miss it! Missoula auditions Monday, April 17 at 4 pm
An original adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s epic novel. Young Jim Hawkins, a mischievous lad, lives with his mother and six sisters in a seaside village on the coast of Maine. The year is 1782 and the American War for Revolution is in its last days. Longing for adventure, Jim comes under the hypnotic spell of the legendary pirate, Long John Silver. While waiting tables in the family inn, Jim finds a treasure map and, with the villainous Silver as his seeming mentor, sails uncharted seas with only the ragged map and a flock of gulls as guides. The Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT), the nation’s largest touring children’s theatre, has been touring extensively for more than 40 years, and will visit nearly 1,200 communities this year with up to 44 teams of Tour Actor/Directors. A tour team arrives in a given town with a set, lights, costumes, props and makeup, everything it takes to put on a play...except the cast. The team holds an open audition and casts 50-60 local students to perform in the production.
