“gaussian diagrid semester 5 group work

w/ Johan Strandlund

This building was designed as a two part structure: The self bearing envelope in the form of a diagrid made of glue laminated lumber, and the changeable internal structure. The idea was to create a building project with a possibility for future transformations thus creating a sustainable design. The facade is mostly set for prefabricated elements, making it possible to with ease open windows where desired, also contributing to a diverse use of the structure. One of the leading ideas for the project was to bring in as much light as possible into the building from the roof. Therefore we have used air duct thermallly insulated plastic, which allows a lot of daylight through, in the roofing and a floor plan that allows light to spread inside the building, saving electricity during daylight hours. This in combination with only using windows where they are wanted as a view instead of needed as light sources and thick outer walls makes for a very well insulated envelope. The building stands as a study centre serving Lunds University as of now, but is designed to have its function changed in the future into whatever is needed.

“poetic machinery” bachelor’s project

The crematorium: A fusion between poetry and machinery. On one hand, a grievous farewell and the quiet solace and comfort of the company of loved ones. On the other the logistics of the hearse arriving, the moving of the casket, the cremation and burial. These thoughts fuse together as the main aspects of the building design, were the free flowing concrete, representing poetry and perceptibility, meets the cold metal sheeting and framed structure, symbolizing the machinery of a crematory. The two elements play with each other, in an abstract way representing the function of a crematory. In the Limhamn quarry, this building stands in two floors, the upper raised on a limestone plinth, connecting to what once was the usage of the site. This floor hosts the more public areas, such as chapels and gathering spaces. Here, the limestone quarry functions as the backdrop of the building. Beyond the chapels and gathering hall a winter garden, directly connected to the garden of remembrance.

When visiting the crematory in the Limhamn, one would park the car outside the quarry, in full view of the vista that the site provides. After starting the walk down into the quarry the view is blocked by an embankment, and it is not until the 400 meter walk is finished and the visitors have walked up the entrance staircase that the beautiful sight is again visible. On the other side of the embankment, a road for the hearse also providing a way for those who cannot make the walk

“townhouse lund” semester 4

Inspiration from the preexisting buildings in Lund as well as the traditional townhouses of London rendered this house. Materials are classic; brick, wood and white plaster are mixed with raw concrete giving the rather modern design a rustic feel. The combined light shaft and staircase brings light into the center of the building as well as it connects the floor plans, both visually and physically. This is possible due to the half height stories. The building, while more closed in the facade towards the street, is open towards the garden to the south, which brings most of the attention away from the street and towads the more sheltered garden.

When entering the house almost immediatly contact is made to the dining room and living room through the staircase shaft. The dining room is lowered to be level with the garden and the steps down from the kitchen provide a place to briefly sit. In the living room contact is made with the kitchen and, through the glassing and balcony, the garden. The bedroom floors are more private and less open against the shaft. On the top floor there is a glass roofing providing the light shaft and the hose with light. Outside the glassing there is a roof terrace facing the street.

“student housing” semester 3 group work

w/ Freja Elgerud, My Zetterquist Helger

phase 1 / cube The pod, which is roughly 12 square meters, fits a small kitchen, bathroom, a loft bed and room for studying. The kitchen has fridge, freezer, stove and a sink that can be covered to expand the counter top. In the space beneath the loft there is a rotatable table, which can, when not needed, be raised to the ceiling to open the space up for other uses.

In the undertaking of creating a denser city this building containing student housing is placed on a lot with a preexisting building in the university town of Lund. The assignment consisted of two phases: In the first phase each member of the group was to design a “pod, a small, space efficient housing unit for one resident. In the second, the group should tie their pods together into a larger scale building.

The sink is covered by an openable lid which when closed provides more free space on the counter top, and when opened reveals the sink as well as the bread board on the undersurface of the lid.

The shelves of the cupboards can be pulled out for easier acces. The base of the kitchen hides another container, which can be pulled out, to provide some more storage space in the compact kitchen.

phase 2 / solfj채dern terrace

The three kind of pods put together. On the visually open ground floor of the bulding there are common areas, important to this type of housing where each person have little no room in their own apartment to socialize. On the ground floor there is an laundry room and premises for leasing to local businesses. The first and second floors are for dwelling, but have common space as well. These spaces include larger kitchens for anyone to use and areas for socializing. The slots between the pods are either glazed or open and thereby functioning as balconies. The second floor has two larger terraces.

unyielding arm chair semester 3

The Assignment: To create a piece of furniture inspired by from a comic. I chose the graphpic novel ‘V for Vendetta’, since its graphical style and vision of the future intrigued me. The style which rendered the chair is the “futuristic sixties-retro” used throughout the novel, both on chlothing, technolgy, furniture and architecture. The chair is heavely inspired by a regular sixties arm chair, combined with a raw, futuristic construction, made of steel bars welded together with the seating, consisting of sheet metal, bolted on top.
