LIVING HARMONY

WOOD DOES YOU GOOD

The quality of a tree increases over the years and with time it becomes more solid. Osmo has been gathering knowledge and experience on working with wood for more than 100 years now. Our knowledge and respect for wood as a natural material, as well as the correct utilisation and production guidelines, help guarantee both the long life of the products as well as retaining the natural characteristics of wood in all its beauty.

Do you like being outdoors? Do you love the feeling of sunshine on your face, love the sight of nature or taking a break in the fresh air? Add that extra little something to your favourite place with decking, screens, pavilions and summer houses from Osmo. Our experience and passion for wood as a natural material is easily recognisable in all Osmo products. The best quality raw materials, perfect manufacturing and attention to practical functionality are typically distinguishing for Osmo. Nearly all of our products are manufactured in one of our facilities, either Warendorf or M端nster, where we also constantly strive to further develop our products.

NATURAL BEAUTY FOR YOUR GARDEN THE MATERIAL

THE SURFACE

Our strive and desire for quality starts with purchasing the best raw material. For example, the Pine which we use is slow grown Scandinavian Pine. The colder climate in the regions where it grows positively effects the growth and ultimately the stability of the wood. As an FSC certified company we aim to only take hard or tropical woods from exemplary sources of renewable forestry, and with our Thermo wood we offer a regionally grown alternative to such tropical wood species. The technically advanced production and extraordinary character of the wood provide an optical highlight for your garden.

Osmo is the only manufacturer who rounds off and completes its product range with in-house developed and produced natural wood finishes and maintenance products. Our finishes are based on natural oils and waxes, thistle-, sunflower-, soy- and linseed oil, carnauba and candelilla wax. These open porous finishes offer many advantages compared to exterior lacquer based finishes. They offer more protection for the wood itself and do not crack, flake, peel or blister. Damaged or faded areas can be easily repaired, renovated or refinished without the need for sanding.

THE MANUFACTURING Our productional perfection guarantees that you will enjoy long term durability from all Osmo wooden elements, the majority of which are carefully manufactured by hand. Taking a closer look at detail is definitely worth it: intelligent connecting solutions – for example our T&G decking woods – make installation child’s play.

You have the choice between clear, transparent or opaque finishes, allowing you to either accentuate the woods natural structure and beauty or add a stronger accent of colour to your garden. Design your own individual garden paradise, Osmo can supply you with the quality you need to achieve it.

OUR GOAL IS ACHIEVING THE HIGHEST OF STANDARDS – YOUR STANDARDS.

Wood is practical, looks and feels great and creates a comfortable atmosphere. It retains a pleasant warmth underfoot during colder months and, in comparison to stone or slabs, does not become uncomfortably hot in summer. Osmo offers a wide selection of wood species with individual characteristics to meet your every wish and requirement, all of which are also available with the Osmo T&G (Tongue and Groove) system.

DECKING

NO MORE SLIPPERY SITUATIONS Moist wood can quickly become slippery. The Osmo Anti-Slip Decking Oil reduces the risk of slipping and helps to protect you and your family against such accidents. We recommend applying a pigmented first coat of either Osmo Wood Oil, e.g. Osmo Bangkirai-, Larch- or Douglas Fir-Oil or the Osmo Natural Oil Woodstain. A top coat of Osmo Anti-Slip Decking Oil increases the durability of the surface.

CLEVER INSTALLATION MADE EASY OSMO T&G SYSTEM FOR FLEXIBILITY

STYLISH "CLIP" SYSTEM

Making installation as easy as possible. Osmo T&G decking is available in all wood species. A specially designed connection for exterior wooden decking allows the continuous installation of boards, minimising waste and saving time. The T&G decking is sorted by hand in our Warendorf facility, ensuring the very best quality standards. Some of the species within our product range are also available kiln dried – this reduces the risk of warping significantly.

Normally decking is fixed to the sub-construction by screwing through the top side of the boards. For those who do not wish to see the screw heads Osmo offers two different systems for near to invisible fixation. Our new "Clipper" fixation system can be used for installing decking boards of 25 mm thickness and more. The "Clipper" is screwed to the underside of the board before fixing it to the sub-construction. Even easier is our tried and tested Osmo "Clip". Specially planed Bangkirai and Garapa decking boards with a longitudinal groove make installation with the "Clip" child's play.

EXTREMELY ROBUST

Tali is an especially and intensively colourful and lively wood species.

14

TALI

TALI Decking that can take a beating: Tali is one of the most dense and stable wood species that there is, even mould and fungi have a hard time getting to grips with it. These characteristics are also the reason that this wood was often used in bridge building, pier construction and for railroad cars in the past. This in many ways is a far too inferior use for such a material, the beautiful African wood species is not only extremely durable but it's reddish to copper colour range and beautiful grain pattern impress anyone that lay eyes on it. > very durable wood > practically free from knots and very durable, even in direct contact with the ground > suitable for installation in soil and water > very high resistance against mould and fungal attack

THERMO ASH

THERMO ASH If you prefer wood from more indigenous sources, but do not want to compromise on the durability of the wood itself, Osmo has the perfect solution. Using a combination of heat and moisture but without the use of chemicals, the wood is heated to over 170° during which the cell structure of the wood is transformed so that it can hardly take on fluid at all. A further positive effect of the treatment is the elegant dark brown tone which the wood changes to, this looks especially attractive when using the new thinner 95 mm wide Thermo Ash decking boards. > extremely durable > low risk of swelling, shrinking and splitting > dramatically reduced risk of mould, fungal and insect attack > few knots and european harvesting > thinner 95 mm decking boards for Clip installation are now also available

Extremely durable – Thermo Pine

THERMO PINE Thermo Pine is a welcome additional alternative to tropical wood species. The thermo treatment dramatically increases the durability of this Scandinavian wood, it can be used both sides although the smooth surface defintely depicts the most lively optic of the wood grain. > extremely durable > very good price - performance ratio > low risk of swelling, shrinking and splitting > dramatically reduced risk of mould, fungal and insect attack > European origin and harvesting

DOUGLAS FIR

Easy to maintain: European Douglas Fir.

DOUGLAS FIR

Douglas Fir Surface grooved

Douglas Fir is one of the most popular coniferous wood species. These elegant wooden giants, originally from the Rocky Mountains have been grown in parts of Europe for more than 100 years now. In comparison to other coniferous woods the Douglas Fir is very dense but also elastic and the widely contrasting colour spectrum, ranging from light rosè to golden brown provides an eye catching element to any garden. Douglas Fir has little resin and as such takes on finishes very easily. The regular use of such products ensures the long term enjoyment of this wood throughout years to come.

LARCH

LARCH Larch is one of the most durable coniferous species, the natural resin content acts as a natural impregnation for the wood. Siberian Larch is harder due to a slower growing process, the European Larch is however, thanks to a higher resin content, just as durable. The natural grain pattern of Larch is especially accentuated on the brushed boards, and an oil based Grey Patina adds an extra something to the overall optic. > > > >

Coniferous woods are easier to work with than hard woods. They have a much more lively grain pattern and optic and have a great price / performance ratio. The durability of these species is dependant on the quality and manufacturing of the boards, the Pine boards from Osmo come from Northern and Central European sources and are of the highest quality – Osmo, quality that you can rely on. > easy to machine > resistant against mould, fungal and insect attack. pressure impregnation > available with a ribbed, grooved or smooth surface > choice of 21 to 33 mm board thickness

CHECKLIST, TIPS BEFORE PURCHASING WHICH WOOD SPECIES DO I NEED? I would like the deck to last as long as possible. > The harder or more dense the wood is the more durable it is against mechanical stress and strain (e.g. high heels, heavy boots etc). The hard wood species Ipe and Massaranduba are unbeatable in this field. The durability however is not so much a question of density but of the resistance against mould, fungal and insect attack, this allows the Thermo treated wood species (Ash and Pine) to hold pace with the harder wood species. I am planning a wooden deck or balcony. > The planning and construction regulations for wooden decking and balconies differ from country to country and region to region. Some wood species are not permitted for these types of construction so please make sure that you consult with the correct authorities or a qualified installer whilst planning. I prefer a lighter brown tone. > Garapa is the lightest coloured hard wood, Douglas Fir the lightest coniferous wood species. I prefer warm, dark colour tones. > The Thermo woods have an even dark brown colour tone, Massaranduba, Bangkirai and European Larch tend to be slightly more reddish brown. A lively grain pattern would be eye catching. > Larch, Pine und Douglas Fir boast a richly diverse grain pattern combined with lively knots. If you are looking for a hard wood, Cumaru offers the most lively optic. I would like a durable deck which looks good and lasts for years without much need for maintenance. > Massaranduba and Garapa, when not maintained, grey to an even beautiful silver-grey patina over time. On that note, all wood species grey over time. It‘s important that the wood comes from renewable forestry or Europe. > Keep an eye out for the FSC logo throughout the catalogue. If you would prefer to avoid tropical hard woods all together, Osmo offers a range of European woods, as well as the more durable Thermo treated wood species exactly for this purpose. I like the idea of a wooden deck but would prefer a more uniform optic, solid and easy to clean high-tech material. > Multi-Deck is produced from a high-tech mixture of natural fibres and polymers and is available in two great colour tones. Please note that dark colour tones become hot during sunny days.

COST OVERVIEW T&G DECKING SYSTEM The Osmo T&G decking system ensures a stable connection, is easy to install, allows for continuous laying and minimises wastage. As a result, you are not bound to certain profile lengths and can work with shorter, easier to handle packs.

BANGKIRAI

CUMARU

The T&G decking boards are sorted by hand in our Warendorf facility where the best side is normally taken as the top side. We do however also offer a pure sorting which can be installed both sides, these profiles are also kiln-dried to reduce the risk of warping even further.

DECKING TILES

A NEW LOOK IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE

DECKING TILE LOMO

Easy for all to install: Osmo decking tiles can be installed in very little time, creating a very different and comfortable optic to your balcony or terrace. The decking tiles do not require any special sub-construction profiles but can simply be installed directly on to a solid and stable substrate – the alternate direction of tiles creates an interesting chess board optic.

"Lomo" decking tiles are available in three different wood species, Bangkirai and Massaranduba are especially durable hard woods, our Pine tiles have been pressure impregnated and also offer a high level of resistance against mould, fungal and insect attack. The wood used in the manufacturing of these tiles is FSC certified.

SCREENS & FENCES

THE CHOICE IS YOURS Our screens and fences are available, depending on the wood species, in three different variations.

NATURAL If you prefer the natural look and elegance of wood then our hardwood Western Red Cedar screens will definitely catch your eye. Throughout the years the Cedar changes to a beautiful grey-silver patina colour tone. Elements made of pressure impregnated Pine and Larch can easily be finished to meet your wishes and expectations in a colour of your choice. TRANSPA P RENT PRE-FINISHED PA Elements made of pressure impregnated Pine, Spruce and Larch can be ordered factory pre-finished with a first coat. The second coat must be applied within the first 3-6 months to ensure the full long term protection of the finish. LONG TERM PROTECTION (FINISHED) Why not do it the easy way? Osmo can deliver finished and ready to install elements in an array of transparent, opaque or "effect" colour tones. The special two coat finishing system which we use ensures that the elements are durable and easy to clean. After a minimum of 2 years a renovational coat may be required.

COLORED GARDEN

COLORED GARDEN – WOOD & COLOR IN HARMONY Osmo-Finishes are perfectly trimmed to offer optimal, long term protection of wood. All of the finishes are based on natural oils and pigments, they penetrate deeply into the wood cells and form a protecting, elastic and microporous surface.

TRANSPARENT COLOURS

OPAQUE COLOURS

EFFECT COLOURS

Timid accentuation: Our transparent colours both protect the wood and allow the original and natural grain to show through. Transparent colours are a more subtle way of protecting wood.

Setting accents: A red fence, white pergola or a fir green gate. An even and perfect finish is guaranteed thanks to the modern flooding and spraying systems which Osmo employs for finishing its products.

That extra something for creative minds, screens and fences finished with Osmo effect colour tones. These colours will certainly add a touch of individuality to your garden

BELLA VISTA NATUR 路 NEW

BELLA VISTA NATURE In regions of the Alps it is common that exterior wood not be planed but levelled with the help of an axe, this dramatically accentuates the character of the wood. The new Bella Vista "Nature" range combines modern production methods with traditional wood craftmanship. The naturally lively, rough optic of the profiles contrasts perfectly with the overall no frills design from Bella Vista B, and this beauty can be intensified further with an Osmo natural wood finish. > in Nordic Spruce > rough axed profiles, prefinished or with long term protection, "Colored Garden" system > profiles approx. 18 x 193 mm > multiplex Birch posts, finished in grey > visible screw fixing > available on request with cable channels for lighting > height can be determined indivdually > manufactured in our Warendorf facility

SCREENS & FENCES

FLEXIBLE AND STABLE

Almost completely closed from prying eyes, but definitely harmonious in any garden: Sumatra. (Sumatra in Pine, transparent finished)

Sumatra in Mandioqueira with posts in Stone Grey.

SUMATRA

SUMATRA A classical, simple yet brilliant design: our "Sumatra" screens are made of solid wood profiles fixed together in three layers. This method means that the screens are almost fully closed and very stable but still allow a breeze to flow through them. We also offer fencing, trellises and plant boxes in the same optic to complete the system. > in Mandioqueira (smooth planed) and pressure impregnated Pine (smooth planed) > Pine also available with a "Colored Garden" finish (Transparent pre-finished) > square edge screens can be installed either horizontally or vertically > size can be changed as per your wishes > all connecting pieces are made from stainless steel > screen: profile and cross bars, Pine and Mandioqueira 13 x 118 mm > trellis: frame, smooth 45 x 45 mm, trellis rails, smooth 10 x 20 mm > gate: frame 45 x 90 mm, Pine and Mandioqueira 13 x 118 mm > gate prepared for hardware > can be used both sides > manufactured in our Warendorf facility

FORSDAL SOUND PROTECTION FENCE

SOUND PROTECTION FENCE FORSDAL Peace and quiet is a valuable part of your quality of life, as well as an important aspect of increasing the value of your property. Our solid wood sound protection fencing doesn‘t only look great but reduces the sound pollution from nearby streets, railways and not so quiet neighbours significantly. VARIANT A: Reflecting sound protection The noise pollution is effectively reflected by the 45 mm Pine planks. VARIANT B: Absorbing sound protection Absorbing sound protection to protect those living opposite you from the reflected noise (sound reflecting fence), Osmo also offers a noise absorbing variant. 28 mm thick planks are combined with absorbing elements to reduce noise pollution by approx. 29.5 dB. For example, a truck produces approx. 90 dB of noise pollution, this is reduced to approx. 60 dB. > in pressure impregnated Pine > custom made profiles are available > Forsdal corresponds to RLE (German regulations for sound protection fences along railways), tested according to DIN (German industrial norm) 52210 and ZTV Lsw 88 (regulations for the installation of sound protecting fences along streets).

Let your creativity run free! You can find the perfect post for any of our screens/fences within our range. In addition to this we offer a range of 10 different colour tones to protect the wood from the effects of the elements and reduce warping. The posts are manufactured, depending on species, from either top quality and very stable laminated wood or high quality solid wood posts (cross- or half sawn).

MY HOME FROM HOME

SUMMER HOUSES AND PAVILIONS

Osmo summer houses, a comfortable escape or a place to work – you decide.

A DREAM HOUSE TO FULFIL YOUR INDIVIDUAL WISHES AND NEEDS Our summer houses and pavilions are without question ideal for storing bicycles, furniture or lawn mowers, but don‘t you sometimes dream of a peaceful retreat where you can work, read or simply relax? Maybe you are in need of a place for guests to stay?

Designo Fun

Designo

Fjordhys

Summer houses and pavilions made by Osmo not only create space for your needs, but look stunning in any garden. High German quality standards ensure the long term enjoyment of your new garden house, additional protection and a touch of colour can be added with one of the microporous surface finishes from Osmo.

OUT OF THE HOUSE AND INTO THE GARDEN OSMO SUMMER HOUSES ENCOURAGE A HIGHER QUALITY OF LIFE A summer house is not always a summer house, Osmo looks upon all of its summer houses as both a high quality extension

of your living space as well as being part of the architectural design of your garden, whether it be a small, simple 4m2 house for storage or a more extravagant extension of your living space with 25m2.

BEAUTIFUL OPTIC

QUICK CONSTRUCTION

FUNCTIONAL & FLEXIBLE

Some people spend more time in their garden house than in their living room. This is something we can fully understand, our summer houses offer a multitude of possibilities for quickly creating more space for you and your friends. Both, the optically appealing modern form or the more traditional log house design, certainly provide an eye catching element in any garden.

A well thought through, solid construction enables both easy installation and guarantees a long life span. We are especially proud of our corner connection which provides a high constructional stability whilst being easy to install. The corner connection also protects the profiles from possible water penetration and drafts. Applying a coat of Osmo natural wood finish offers added protection for the wood surface.

One house, many possibilities. Our summer houses can be adapted as per your individual requirements, choose between various sizes, wall thicknesses, windows and doors. Easy-to-install partition walls allow for total design flexibility. You can also add that extra something: some Osmo houses can also be extended, for example with a veranda.

CERTIFICATION

PROTECTING OUR FORESTS

Osmo supports sustainable cultivation and strives to attain objective proof of origin for our timber. To enforce this aim, we have adopted the high standard of the FSC for our company and certain products. FSC stands for "Forest Stewardship Council", it certifies products which have been harvested from exemplary sources. The harvesting of resources follows stringent environmental regulations set within the FSC, as well as taking social and economical standards into account. Certified forest holdings are independently tested and evaluated in accordance with FSC guidelines before they are permitted to use the FSC trade mark.

The FSC is an international, non-profit organisation which works together with environmental and conservation organisations, modern forest holdings and companies as well as wood processing companies to achieve common goals. All processing stages are defined by strict FSC regulations. The FSC has influence on the ecological extraction and processing of wood but not the quality thereof. Osmo Holz und Color GmbH & Co. KG has been FSC certified for the manufacturing and trading by an independent institute since January 2005. FSC products can be found clearly marked with the FSC logo in this catalogue.

INFO & TIPS

ENSURING THE LONG TERM ENJOYMENT OF YOUR WOOD Trees which have grown and matured over decades modestly demonstrate to us the fantastic characteristics of wood: Both stable and elastic they withstand wind and weather in dramatically varying climates. The beauty of our wooden products is shaped over years by the natural form and character which grow along with the tree, this natural beauty is something we must take great care to preserve and protect. CHOICE OF WOOD SPECIES Varying wood species do not only differ cosmetically but also in their durability and resistance. Before deciding on any particular wood species you should consider the intended use and the level of use that is required (see our timber encyclopedia or check list). Exotic hardwood species such as Bangkirai, Massaranduba, Cumaru, Garapa, Ipe and Mandioqueira do not require additional chemical protection and can even be used in ground contact. Some domestic or softer woods such as Douglas Fir, Larch or Cedar are made more durable through constructional wood protection. The special treatment of Thermo Ash, Thermo Pine and Pressure Impregnated Pine increase the durability of the wood. Direct ground contact should however be avoided when using soft woods or Thermo Pine.

122

CHARACTER

WOOD – A MATERIAL WITH CHARACTER KNOTS

DIFFERENCE IN DIMENSION / SWELLING & SHRINKING

Depending on wood species, origin and local growing conditions the number of knots and the grain can vary. Healthy knots give the wood character and an individual, lively optic. They are not defect and their numbers, size and shape are not limited. White finished Pine screens and fences etc. may have visible brownish stains around the knots caused by the bleeding of natural ingredients. Single rejected knots (e.g. on the edges) are not always unavoidable but have no effect on the durability of the wood.

Wood is a natural material which works. As a result the dimensions of wood products can change throughout the year depending on the season (up to 10 %). The possible swelling and shrinking of wooden products, especially wooden decking, is definitely something which you should take into consideration during the planning stages. Thermo wood has been treated in such a way that it hardly "works" at all.

COLOUR VARIATION

Naturally grown construction materials may show differing levels of warping. The distance between sub-construction profiles for wooden decking plays a major role in the prevention of warping. Profiles which are already warped can be cut during installation: the profiles should be cut back far enough that no more pressure is placed on the screw fixing.

A beautiful optical characteristic of wood is that the varying species feature an array of different colours which can be found on the individual profiles of screens, fences and decking boards. These differences underline the natural beauty of the species and are part of the lively, individual character of wood.

WARPING

SPLITTING ROUGHNESS AND PLANING MISTAKES On some lamelle surfaces or wood planks so called planing mistakes (rough areas on the surface) can occur. In spite of utmost accuracy whilst machining, these rough areas cannot be avoided, especially when working against the wood grain or around knots. These planing mistakes, as well as frayed ends, may occur but can be removed easily. PINHOLES When using Bangkirai small so called pinholes can occur, these small holes are caused by insects which only exist in the living tree. They die rapidly after the tree has been harvested and are no longer present during manufacturing. As such no threat is posed to the product or surrounding wooden constructions. BAMBOO Bamboo is a natural product which, due to changing climatic conditions, may be prone to splitting and discolouration. Unfinished Bamboo may also be subject to surface mould, algae and fungal attack. As a result, and to protect the surface from such infestation, we recommend finishing the product directly after installation with Osmo UV Protection Oil "Extra".

The effects of weathering, sun, moisture and UV influence, cause different reactions on varying wood species. These influences can sometimes cause splitting in the wood. These splits are, however, no cause for concern as they do not structurally effect the products durability. NATURAL WOOD INGREDIENTS Wood species which contain high amounts of resin, such as Larch, Pine, Spruce and Douglas Fir, can "bleed" out these resins during the first months after installation. These can be removed either mechanically or with our Osmo Resin Remover Set. Pressure impregnated woods sometimes show green coloured "bleeding" on the wood surface. This is a mixture of resin and impregnation salts which wash out over time. Some tropical wood species such as Bangkirai, Massaranduba and Garapa may bleed during the first few months after installation. Light coloured surroundings (walls, plaster or slabs) should either be protected during this time or the construction itself should be designed to prevent this. Swimming pools or ponds may become cloudy if these ingredients come into contact with the water.

WOOD – A DIVERSE AND NATURALLY RENEWABLE MATERIAL 123

INFO & TIPS

WELL MAINTAINED – LONGER LIFE

ENDURING BEAUTY WITH LITTLE EFFORT We would like you to enjoy your Osmo product for as long as possible. As a result our high quality standards start with the raw material that we work with. In addition, we also pay great attention to imply good constructive wood protection which increases the durability of the product dramatically. OUR DESIGNERS ARE ALSO TECHNICIANS Every element, every accessory, every new design is extensively tested to ensure optimal constructive protection (e.g. that no water remains in the tongue and groove connection of our decking). Additional protection comes from one of the Osmo oil-based finishes, which are especially created for the needs of wood and regular maintenance.

NATURAL OILS – PROTECTION FROM WITHIN Osmo finishes are based on natural oils (sunflower-, soya- and thistle oil). The binding agents penetrate the wood surface and cause the finish to net and bind with the fibres during drying. The oils protect the wood from within, as opposed to common film-forming lacquers. Not only does an oil finished surface dramatically reduce swelling and shrinking, the wood becomes more resistant to splitting also.

TIP Green growth on wood and stone can easily be removed with Osmo Gard Clean.

124

DECKING MAINTENANCE

MAINTENANCE MAKES SENSE. HERE ARE A FEW TIPS. PROTECTION FOR YOUR DECKING Wooden decking is especially hard hit by the effects of weathering and the elements as well as being under mechanical strain. Retaining the woods natural beauty and value over time is possible and not difficult, here are a few tips and tricks on how to achieve this. QUICK CLEANING Wood species such as Bangkirai, Massaranduba and Garapa can show signs of rust or soiling which occur during the long transport routes. Light soiling can easily be removed with a scrubber or hard bristle brush together with Osmo Gard Clean. For heavier soiling we recommend the use of a brass brush (not steel) or sandpaper. Water marks become less and less apparent the longer UV rays can influence the surface. REGULAR CLEANING Regular cleaning of your decking will keep it looking good and resistant on the long term. For surfaces which have been finished with Osmo we recommend regular cleaning with the Osmo Wash and Care. Light stains and soiling can be removed with ease using water and Wash and Care. Partial renovation is also no problem with our finishes – especially easy, no sanding required. REFRESHING THE SURFACE Osmo Wood Oils protect decking from the natural greying process. The oils used are subject to the elements and are mechanically removed (walking off of the finish), this makes refreshing the finish child's play - simply clean and re-oil the surface before the greying process can begin. All you need to do is clean the entire area thoroughly with a scrubbing brush and lots of water, green growth can be removed using Osmo Gard Clean. After allowing the surface to dry completely you can apply a refreshing coat of our Wood Oil. Unlike other finishes you do not need to sand the surface before refreshing. For quick and easy application of our Wood Oil we recommend using the Osmo 150 mm floor brush.

TIP Quick test: Spray a small amount of water onto the wood, as long as it still pearls off of the surface you do not need to refresh the oil.

125

INFO & TIPS DECKING WOOD EXAMPLE

Naturally greyed surface

Refreshed with Osmo "Wood Reviver"

Protected with Osmo Wood Oil

ELEGANT PATINA OR FRESH WOOD

FINISHING MADE EASY

The colour spectrum found in different wood species is created by the natural ingredients which they contain. These ingredients are literally washed out of the wood during weathering – the wood begins to grey. This process is only cosmetic and has no effect on the stability or durability of the wood. The elegant grey patina can be found on, among others, landing stages or old tudor style houses and is generally accepted as a sign of a well aged high quality constructional material. Garapa and Massaranduba grey especially evenly and develop a stunning silver grey patina over time.

The resistance of wood is directly coupled with, amongst other things, the wood density and natural ingredients of each different species. New wood must be allowed to weather after installation so that all of the water soluble ingredients can wash out of the wood. If the weathering wood surface feels slightly raw then it is usually ready to be finished.

On the other hand, if you rather prefer the fresh, new brown colour of wooden elements or decking, Osmo offers a wide range of suiting pigmented finishes for the wood species you choose.

126

The wood should be finished, during good weather conditions, with two coats of oil before the greying process begins. To allow the finish to penetrate into the wood it should be applied along the wood grain thinly and evenly. For a quick, easy and back friendly application on decking we recommend the Osmo Floor Brush 150 mm.

TIP

TIP

Greyed wood can be refreshed using the Osmo Wood Reviver. This product reanimates the woods natural colour tone.

The bleeding of natural ingredients (especially by tropical wood species) can cause dark stains on light coloured surroundings, e.g. on walls, slabs etc. Therefore, water should not be allowed to flow onto these areas.

OSMO-COLOR

PERFECT MATCH: WOOD AND COLOR – NATURALLY FROM OSMO. Microporous wood finishes based on natural oils – the Osmo founder‘s idea behind these products has been tried and proven over decades. Unlike lacquers Osmo finishes are perfectly designed to meet the needs of wood. PROFITABLE ADVANTAGES OF OSMO > all Osmo finishes are based on natural oils (sunflower-, thistle- and soya oil) > they allow the wood to breathe: it remains durable and easy to clean > they do not crack, flake, peel or blister > they can be partially renovated without the need for sanding > they have an extremely high coverage > they are safe for humans, animals and plants (when fully dry)

WOOD OILS

INFO & TIPS

AVAILABLE OPTIONS Depending on wood species our screens and fences are available in three varieties. NATURAL

TRANSPARENT PRE-FINISHED

LONG TERM PROTECTION (FINISHED)

If you are a fan of the natural character of wood our hardwood or Western Red Cedar screens will certainly appeal to you. Over time, the wood will grey naturally to a beautiful silver-grey patina. Elements made from pressure impregnated Pine or Larch can be finished in an Osmo finish of your choice.

Elements made of pressure impregnated Pine, Spruce or Larch can be pre-finished (all sides) upon request, with a first coat of finish in our facility. After applying a second coat of finish within three to six months after installation, the surface becomes as durable as elements finished with our long term protection.

As a more comfortable option, we can deliver the finished and ready to install elements, in either a transparent, opaque or "effect" finish. The perfectly applied two coat finish makes the elements especially durable and easy to maintain. After two years a refreshing coat may be required.

EFFECT COLOURS

The reserved accentuation: our transparent finishes preserve the original character of the wood while adding a gentle touch of colour to the surface. Transparent colours protect the wood unobtrusively.

Colourful highlights: a red garden fence, a white pergola, a fir green gate. Thanks to the modern spraying and dipping techniques which Osmo uses, we can guarantee perfectly and evenly finished colours.

The icing on the cake for creative minds. New within our product range are screens and fences finished with Osmo "effect" colour tones. These eye catching colour tones add a brilliantly individual touch to your garden.

Osmo-finishes are designed to offer perfect long term protection of wood. The finishes are based on natural oils and pigments, they penetrate into the wood while creating an elastic, microporous protective sheath.

We recommend the use of our finishes as a measure of additional protection for your newly purchased high quality products. They reduce the natural greying and splitting process and increase the weather resistance of the wood. Wood is a naturally grown product. Therefore, natural ingredients in some species of timber may wash out and stain walls or floors (timber, plastered walls, etc). The correct choice of timber to match the surrounding area is very important, especially for wooden decking. Please consult your local dealer!
