ust then a beautiful butterfly flies by Hannah and she wonders what it would be like to be a butterfly.

‘I would like to have colourful wings just like a peacock butterfly. I’d fly around people and show off my beautiful dress to everyone.’ Hannah sees a picture in her head and smiles; ’What a surprise for my friends Mary and Danny. I’d like that very much.’ The butterfly lands on a bench under an oak tree and Hannah thinks, ’Surely I can look at a butterfly with my glass. It will still look nice, even if it is a giant.’ And it does. The butterfly looks so beautiful, colourful and with pretty patterns all over it. But wait a minute; Hannah sees the butterfly brushing raindrops off its wings, which are wet from the recent rain. ‘Poor thing, it doesn’t have a raincoat on. But then again, if it wore a raincoat, it couldn’t fly. Umm, it is not easy to be a fragile butterfly,’ Hannah thinks and wanders away in the garden.

appy birthday, everyone shouts when Hannah enters the room. Her Mum is holding a birthday cake. Hannah smiles and gets ready to blow out the candles on her cake. ‘Make a wish,’ her Dad says, ’but don’t tell it to anyone or it will not come true.’ Hannah knows what her wish will be. She wishes she could always be a girl because it is so nice. A girl isn´t afraid of dandelion balls, caterpillars or earthworms, for they are small and harmless. A girl can wear a raincoat outside and not get wet like a butterfly. What’s more, a girl doesn’t have to work hard like a bumblebee; Hannah wants to live in the house, with her parents, and not stand outside in all weather, like the big tree in the garden. Finally she is happy she is not a raindrop, tumbling from the sky head first and disappearing for good. Hannah is so happy to be a girl; she wouldn’t change it for anything in the world. She takes a deep breath and blows out all candles. There are only six of them and so it is easy. She hopes her wish comes true.
