Screen has been talking with producers, sales agents, distributors and territory experts around the world to get a sense of what could be ready, what’s hot – and what’s not. The spirit of the list is to be as global as possible, looking at titles from the big filmmaking nations such as the US and France and also delving into the smaller territories other lists miss. Also, and this is important, it is not an attempt to pin down or guess what has already been confirmed for Official Selection or Directors’ Fortnight and Critics’ Week and increasingly ACID, which has come into its own in recent years. Screen, like the whole industry, loves the thrill of announcement week in April and prefers to leave the job of unveiling the line-ups to Cannes general delegate Thierry Frémaux, Directors’ Fortnight’s newly appointed artistic director Paolo Moretti and 1/19
