SHOOTING STARS 2022 by Cineuropa 13/01/2022 - Seven actresses and three actors will be presented in an exclusive hybrid programme during this year’s Berlinale, now adapted to the current Covid protocol

EFP (European Film Promotion) has announced the ten emerging European talents for this year’s 25th anniversary edition of European Shooting Stars. From 11-14 February, seven actresses and three actors will be presented to the international press, the industry, and the public in an exclusive hybrid programme during this year’s 72nd Berlin International Film Festival (10-20 February), now adapted to the current Covid protocol (read news). One of the programme’s many highlights will be the European Shooting Stars Awards Ceremony on 14 February at the Berlinale Palast. "Although this year we sadly cannot meet in person, we invite you to join, discover and celebrate the best in rising European acting talent, while staying safe at home. We are thrilled that we have been able to create a digital experience via our online 'Home of Acting Talent’ , that will open its doors and emulate the spirit of our annual physical

events by offering 3 days of specially-curated press, industry and public-facing promotion and networking activities for this year’s chosen talent”, says EFP’s Managing Director Sonja Heinen. The ten talents selected by a jury of industry experts (read news) are: Gracija Filipović (Croatia), Marie Reuther (Denmark), Anamaria Vartolomei (France), Emilio Sakraya (Germany), Clare Dunne (Ireland), Hanna van Vliet (The Netherlands), João Nunes Monteiro (Portugal), Timon Sturbej (Slovenia), Evin Ahmad (Sweden) and Souheila Yacoub (Switzerland). Her collaborative work with director Antoneta Alamat Kusijanović has brought Gracija Filipović from Croatia international recognition and acclaim. Filipović's first leading role in a feature film was in Kusijanović' Murina [+], which was awarded the Camera d'Or in Cannes. Marie Reuther from Denmark convinced with her transformative performance and the obvious joy of acting in her debut lead in HBO’s first Danish-language mystery thriller Kamikaze. For her performance, she was honoured with the Best Actress Award at Series Mania in Lille, France. Anamaria Vartolomei from France stars in the Golden Lion winner Happening [+] by Audrey Diwan. The extensive filmography of the young actress, who starred alongside Isabelle Huppert in My Little Princess [+] at the age of eleven, also includes feature films like How to Be a Good Wife [+]. Emilio Sakraya from Germany was nominated for Til Schweiger's The Salvation of the World as We Know It, but he previously starred in several films and series. In Fatih Akin's upcoming feature Rheingold, Emilio plays the lead, rapper Xatar. Well-known for her leading role and as co-writer of the critically acclaimed and multiaward winning feature Herself [+], directed by Phyllida Lloyd, Clare Dunne from Ireland starred as Amanda in the first season of the notable AMC+ and RTE series KIN. For her role in ANNE+, which she also co-created, Hanna van Vliet from The Netherlands received a Golden Calf nomination as Best Actress in a drama series at the Netherlands Film Festival in 2020. Portuguese actor João Nunes Monteiro’s credits include feature films such as Mosquito [+] by João Nuno Pinto, for which he won the Cinema Academy Sophia Award as Best Actor. The jury was impressed by his performance in Miguel Gomes and Maureen Fazendeiro's The Tsugua Diaries [+] which premiered in last year’s Director’s Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival. Timon Sturbej from Slovenia is a multi-award winning theatre and film actor who received high praise from the experts. His well-known films are Consequences [+] by Darko Stante as well as his nominated film, Riders/Spring Dreaming, by Dominik Mencej, which will be released this year.

Swedish actress and writer Evin Ahmad - already well known for her roles in films like Beyond Dreams [+] - was nominated as a Shooting Star for the Swedish Netflix Original series Snabba Cash, adapted from best-selling author Jens Lapidus’ Stockholm Noir crime trilogy. Souheila Yacoub from Switzerland has already worked with renowned directors such as Gaspar Noé and Philippe Garrel, starred in the series Savages [+] and No Man’s Land and was at last year's Cannes Film Festival with two films in which she plays the leading roles: A Brighter Tomorrow [+] by Yassine Qnia and in the nominated film The Braves [+] by Anaïs Volpe.
