You can experience the elegance of a traditional high tea at Victorian Grace Tea Room conveniently located at 616 N. Parsons Ave. in Brandon. This lovely little establishment is owned and operated by Katlyn and Megan Amieva along with General Manager Kat Hermida-Perez. All three are long-time friends who love the tradition of high tea. Katlyn and Megan purchased and opened Victorian Grace Tea Room in November. It was originally opened as a tea room in the 2000s. It was set to suddenly close. Katlyn and Kat happened to be there when it was announced. "This was our favorite tea room. We thought it was such a shame that it was closing," said Katlyn. Now, they have lovingly opened the Victorian Grace Tea Room so that others who also love high tea, can enjoy the experience close to home. High tea is offered on Saturdays at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and on Sundays at 12 Noon and 2 p.m. The 12 Noon time is also the Children's Tea. In addition, Victorian Grace Tea Room offers special

events such as pajama parties on select Friday evenings. They also offer Princess themed teas once a month. February will feature Cinderella, March will feature Rapunzel and April will feature Tianna. Reservations are requested and can be made online at https://tableagent.com. High tea is a fourcourse meal. You get a choice of soup and then three courses are served vertically on a three tiered tray. The bottom tray consists of savory choices like salmon crostini with dill or cucumber sandwiches. The middle tray holds scones and cream while the top tray features rotating desserts. Teas are paired with the food that is served. Guests can select from two offerings and you get unlimited servings of one selection. "All of our food is made in-house from locally sourced vendors. We are big on sustainability and try not to waste. That is why we request reservations," explained Hermida-Perez. Victorian Grace Tea Room is the perfect place for an intimate bridal or baby shower or any special occasion. High tea, in and of itself is a special occasion, and Victorian Grace Tea Room is the perfect place to experience it. Price for High Tea is $29 per person for adults and $17.80 for the Children's Tea on Sunday. Prices are inclusive of sales tax. Feed The Bay Meets The Needs Of Many With One Day Food Collection Event

By Amanda Boston

Feed the Bay welcomes children to participate alongside a parent.

Since its inception in 2006, Feed the Bay has collected nearly two million pounds of food for pantries of local food banks and community agencies. The multi-church effort provides a practical way for area churches to demonstrate God's love by serving as the Hands and Feet of Jesus. Feed the Bay will be held on Sunday, March 31 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. You can help fill the gap by replenishing pantries as a volunteer or shopper. Feed the Bay partners with Publix Super Markets which offer shoppers a convenient grocery list with the requested food items. After the shopper purchases the food, volunteers are onsite to collect the food and load it onto trailers. For the past nine years, Michelle (Flip) Filipowicz has looked forward to volunteering with Feed the Bay. She serves as a store coordinator at one of the Publix locations where she checks in the volunteers and acts as a liaison between church volunteers and store managers. “We start the day in prayer and with an empty truck, but as one body of Christians, not several area churches,” explained Flip. “At the end of the day, we thank the Lord for the food and the hands that helped to fill the truck.” Last year, Feed the Bay garnered 124,254 pounds of food from 15 Publix locations. The one-day community-wide effort included 31 church campuses and 12 community agencies, totaling 704 volunteers. Every year, Janine Skipper also vol-

unteers as a store coordinator and truck driver at one of the Publix collection locations. She reminisced about last year’s turnout despite the stormy weather. "This past year we had a tornado touch down out in the Bay at the height of Feed the Bay,” said Skipper. “Even with the impending weather, the volunteers and parishioners came out in droves, and we had a full truck. Even through the storms—the wind and the rain, God’s people showed up and gave from their hearts.“ Volunteers are not only needed to load trucks at the Publix Super Markets but are necessary to drive the trailers as well as unload and sort the food at the local agencies. For those who wish to volunteer, you must be at least 14 years old, but children are welcome to participate alongside a parent. To volunteer or see a list of participating Publix Super Markets, churches and agencies, visit www.feedthebay.org. If you are unable to participate during the event but still want to contribute, gift cards from any supermarket may be dropped off at the Bay Life Church office. For questions, contact Melanie Langston from Bay Life Church at mlangston@baylife.org.

Pictured are the celebrity guests from the 2018 Charity Golf Classic.

The 17th annual Greater Brandon Charity Golf Classic will be held on Friday, March 15 and Saturday, March 16. Also known as The Angel Foundation, the nonprofit is proud to announce its new venue on the beautiful Club Renaissance golf course in Sun City. This year’s event kicks off with the Celebrity Pairings Party at Sunset Grill at Little Harbor on Friday night. The evening will include food, drinks and its exclusive Celebrity Auction where golfers will bid on their favorite celebrities to golf with on Saturday. The Celebrity Pro-Am Golf Tournament begins on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. at Club Renaissance with registration and lunch. The shotgun start is at 1 p.m. In keeping with tradition, golfers will enjoy a generous player’s package featuring food on the course from local restaurants, course competitions and an award ceremony at the completion of the tournament. “We have been told that our tournament, our biggest fundraiser, is one of

the best in the state, and we are blessed to have our sponsors, celebrity guests and golfers come back year after year to help us raise money for the foundation,” said Liz Brewer, the executive director. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Foundation Angel Program, which helps families in the Greater Brandon community affected by a life-threatening illness or catastrophic event. When a family faces a terminal diagnosis or catastrophic event, their primary focus is caring for their loved ones. The practical day-to-day things often taken for granted when all is well are no longer a priority, but they still must be done. The Angel Foundation partners with local businesses and individuals in the community to meet those practical needs. Every family goes through home assessment by an ‘Angel Team’ to determine their needs, and if a financial need exists, the nonprofit will assist them on a temporary basis until they can get back on their feet. Since 2006, the foundation has helped more than 750 families in a variety of ways. For more information about the foundation, visit www.BrandonFoundation.com or call 689-6889

An Ounce of Prevention; ‘Measuring’ The Value Of Ongoing Medical Care By Dr. Jennifer Challenger DVM, MPH

That old saying that an ounce of prevention beats a pound of cure sometimes is overlooked as we get caught up with our busy schedules and active lives. However, there is a lot of truth in that saying and none more important than that involving preventative health care. This is especially true where our pets are involved. Annual vaccines for pets are a very important form of preventative medicine because they prevent disease and suffering for our furry family members. The most commonly recognized vaccine protects against the rabies virus, which can be fatal in both pets and people. Because of this, it is required by law to be given to your pets every year. There are many diseases that your pets can catch just from walking and sniffing as they explore their surroundings. That is why annual vaccine boosters, such as Distemper and Parvovirus for dogs as well as Feline Leukemia and FIP for cats, are so important. Another important vaccine is Bordetella, which protects against a highly contagious respiratory disease that is spread through the air. Lyme disease is yet another disease for which your pets should be vaccinated and is a concern especially when and where ticks are present. Vaccine programs are generally start-

ed between 6 and 8 weeks of age, when puppies and kittens come to the veterinarian for their first check-up. These vaccines must be boostered several times in the next few months and then annually, or in some cases every six months, after that. These annual and semi-annual visits to the veterinarian are also an important part of preventative medicine. During these visits, the veterinarian will examine your pet to ensure that he or she is healthy. The vet may find that your pet has dental problems or conditions of the skin or ears that, if caught and treated early, can save your pet unnecessary suffering-and you great expense. Once a pet is 7 years of age or older, it is a good idea to have yearly blood work completed, which will not only detect problems before they become severe, but will also give you peace of mind that your pet is aging gracefully. Many veterinarians offer this blood work at a reduced price in conjunction with a pet's annual vaccination visit. Be sure to ask your veterinarian about a wellness or geriatric blood profile while you are at the office with your pet. Many feline and canine diseases can now be prevented through vaccination, monthly preventatives and regular health examinations. A vaccination and preventative schedule prepared by your veterinarian can thus greatly contribute to good health and a longer life span for your pets.

Weird, Wacky And Wonderful Holidays-FEBRUARY 2019 Chopsticks Day * National Random Acts of Kindness Day * National Walking The Dog Day * National Tortilla Chip Day

By Kelly Wise Valdes

Did you know that there are an abundance of daily holidays and special days every month? Some are immersed in tradition, while others may be silly, bizarre, unique, special or inspirational. Unofficial Holidays are not traditionally marked on calendars but are celebrated by various groups and individuals. Some are designed to promote a cause or to recognize historical events not recognized officially, while others are fun holidays, generally intended to just be humorous. So, in the midst of our busy lives, maybe consider taking time to enjoy some of the entertaining but lesser-known holidays throughout the year. The month of February is typically associated with romantic dinners, boxes of chocolate, roses and engagement rings. Often referred to as the ‘month of love,’ it is also the shortest month of the year. February is also the only month of the year that can pass without a full moon, which can happen every 19 years. If you’re not a hopeless romantic looking for a full moon with your non-existent Valentine’s date or if you’re allergic to flowers or perhaps have given up chocolate for dietary reasons, you can find a multitude of other fun-loving holidays to celebrate this month. If you love Asian food, then National Chopsticks Day on Wednesday, February 6 is a day to celebrate! No matter how much some of us may struggle with these wooden wonders, chopsticks are fun to use! Chopsticks originated in China more than 5,000 years ago and are used in almost all Asian cultures. In

fact, more than a quarter of the world's population uses chopsticks on a daily basis. Chopsticks can be made of wood, bamboo, plastic, fine china or metal. The word chopstick translates to the phrase ‘quick little bamboo fellows.’ So on this special day, you should run, don’t wok, to your favorite Chinese takeout such as Chopsticks at 801 E Brandon Blvd. in Brandon or Asian Yummy House located at 10679 Big Bend Rd. in Riverview. If your fortune cookie told you to be kind to strangers, then this next holiday will be worth celebrating. National Random Acts of Kindness Day takes place on Sunday, February 17 and is observed nationwide by people, groups and organizations. This special, feel-good day has grown in popularity and has become a favorite day to many people. Take this opportunity to make a difference in someone’s day. Maybe bring baked goods to the office to share with coworkers, let somebody go first in the grocery store or pay for the food-order of

the person behind you at a drive-thru. If you made a difference in someone’s life on this day, share your idea with others on social media using #RandomActsOfKindnessDay. For more ideas, visit www.randomactsofkindness.org. If you missed a random act of kindness, then never fear! You can be kind to your dog on Friday, February 22 for National Walking the Dog Day. This day combines two important things in life- dogs and exercise. Our loyal pooches love a good stroll with their humans. So grab walking shoes, the leash, some treats and take your favorite canine for a stroll. Want to try something new? Try a different trail, go to a new park, or simply try a different route than normal. Your dog will love exploring the new sights, scents and sounds. What if you don’t have a dog? Visit your local animal shelter and take some dogs in need of adoption on a walk. Taking a dog on a walk is also a great way meet new people. If your dog would rather go on a

cruise instead of a walk, consider a 90minute sunset cruise. With a quick trip across the Sunshine Skyway, you can take your canine companion on a sightseeing cruise through residential waterways and tropical barrier islands south of Pass-A-Grille. Visit www.shellkeyshuttle.com for more information. After a good walk, nothing hits the spot like a crunchy snack. National Tortilla Chip Day on Sunday, February 24 is the day to honor the yummy salty treat. Tortilla chips are made from corn tortillas that have been cut into wedges and fried. Even though tortilla chips are considered to be a Mexican food, known as tostados, they were first mass-produced in Los Angeles in the late 1940s. It is said that the triangle-shaped tortilla chips were created as a way to use the misshapen tortillas that were rejected from the automated tortilla-manufacturing machine. People everywhere love a good tortilla chip to dip in salsa, guacamole, cheese dips or made into nachos. Honor this day by ordering some chips and salsa at your favorite Mexican restaurant such as Taqueria Don Julio located at 12859 U.S. 301 in Riverview or La Villa Mexican Grill located at 4377 Lynx Paw Trail in Valrico. Use #NationalTortillaChipDay to post on social media. February boasts many other fun holidays including: Stuffed Mushroom Day, National Organ Donor Day, Cherry Pie Day and Polar Bear Day. La Septima Café In Brandon Continues To Bring Ybor Style Flair

By Tatiana Ortiz

A local eatery in the city of Brandon continues to bring its Ybor City style home cooking taste to the tables of its diners as it reaches being in operation for 24 years. Dahlia Fernandez and Starting on the her husband left: R.J. Ron Fernandez, Fernandez, Dahlia who own La Fernandez, Septima Café, Jennifer offer a blend of Mussenden and Ron Fernandez. the Spanish, Cuban and Italian cultures into all of its dishes. On February 9, 1995, La Septima Café became established. As the restaurant outgrew its original space on Parsons Avenue, a better opportunity arose for it to relocate to the La Viva Plaza in 2011. It can now seat more than 100 guests comfortably. To add, La Septima Café closed in its patio to give it more of an industrial appeal, along with expanding the dining room another 32 seats and gained a private dining room with 24 seats in it, too. Dahlia said she is pleased about the newer location. “The transition worked out great as we received more parking, a full bar and new customers from the south side of Brandon, the FishHawk and River Hills communities,” Dahlia said.

La Septima Café also offers a wide variety of foods and beverages. For those dining here for the first time, Dahlia recommends ordering a dish called ‘Walk Around La Septima,’ which costs $16.85. It consists of a sampling of the house favorites such as Ropa Vieja, Picadillo and more. La Septima also provides a daily lunch special menu from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. It also serves an array of alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages that includes coffee, soft drinks, wine and more. La Septima Café also offers off-site catering, delivery through Mobile Meals and takeout, just to name a few. “Overall, we have a history with our community and appreciate all of the support,” Dahlia said. For more information, please visit La Septima’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/LaSeptimaCafe/ or please visit the website at http://laseptimacafe.com/index.shtm. Flight To Honor Schedules Fifth Mission For D.C. Daytrip

By Stacy Huisman

Flight to Honor of Polk Veterans Council is sponsoring its fifth mission to fly war veterans to visit national war memorials in Washington D.C. on Tuesday, April 30. The flight will depart from and return to Lakeland International Airport for the one-day visit to Washington D.C. Established in 2013, Flight to Honor is a local area program modeled after the national Honor Flight program. Its mission is to safely transport area veterans to Washington D.C. to visit the memorials built in their honor for their service to our country. Flight to Honor also offers an opportunity for the community, both young and old, to express their appreciation for the service of WWII, Korean and Vietnam veterans by celebrating their homecoming. Flight to Honor will fly 180 veterans and guardians to the nation’s capital for the fifth mission since 2013. All veterans are eligible to apply. The flight is free to veterans, and all veterans are eligible as long as they have not been on a previous flight. Gary Clark, Chairman of Flight to Honor and veteran, leads the charge in planning, organizing and executing these trips. Clark has been with Polk

Veterans Council for 20 years and has led Flight to Honor since its inception. “A veteran, his name was Ted, and his whole desire was to go on an Honor Flight. Ted was one of four brothers. Two of his brothers were killed during WWII, while him and his other brother came home. Two of his brother-in-laws were also killed in WWII. All Ted wanted to do was visit the memorial to validate what he had done in Normandy. Two days before Veterans Day last year, he was 97 years old and in the hospital. I went to see him. He told me not to tell to his wife, but that the Honor Flight was the greatest day of his life. He passed away later that evening.” Clark encourages the public to donate and support these special oneday trips. Whether through volunteering for orientation, sponsoring a veteran or becoming guardian, there are many ways the public can help. He also encourages the community to welcome home returning flights. If you are a veteran or know of a veteran that would be interested in April’s Flight to Honor, applications are now being accepted online at www.polkveteranscouncil.com, or email FlighttoHonorPolk@gmail.com.

The Straz Center Offers Theater Lovers A Taste Of Everything

Staff Report

Exciting things have been happening at The Straz Center during the 20182019 Season. The line-up of touring Broadway blockbusters, a powerhouse opera series, a dramatic and thought-provoking play series and a remarkable collection of dance, theater, music and educational events have added an exciting vibe for local theater lovers. “We are really proud to be able to bring so much high quality performing arts to the Tampa area on our stages and in our school and in the community,” said President and CEO Judy Lisi. “This is a special season for us, and we hope for our entire community.” Excitement has filled the air since it was announced Hamilton was going to play in Tampa at The Straz Center. It is currently making its run and will continue through Sunday, March 10. There is still a lot to see during the 2018-2019 season at the Straz Center. The 2017 Tony Award®-winning Best Musical Dear Evan Hansen comes to The STRAZ Center from Tuesday to Sunday, April 9-14. It is the winner of six 2017 Tony Awards®, including Best Musical, and the 2018 Grammy® Award for Best Musical Theatre Album. A letter that was never meant to be seen, a lie that was never meant to be told; a life he never dreamed he could have. Evan Hansen is about to get the one thing he is always wanted: a chance to finally fit in. Anastasia will take place from Tuesday to Sunday, May 7-12. This dazzling show will transport you from the twilight of the Russian Empire to the euphoria of Paris in the 1920s, as a brave young woman sets out to discover the

mystery of her past. Kinky Boots, winner of six Tony Awards®, including Best Musical in 2013, returns for a limited engagement from Friday to Sunday, May 17-19. It was inspired by true events and takes you from a gentlemen’s shoe factory in Northampton to the glamorous catwalks of Milan. Take a step in the right direction and discover that sometimes the best way to fit in is to stand out.

NEW TO THE MARKET

Come From Away takes to the stage from Tuesday to Sunday, June 4-9. On 9/11, the world stopped. This is the remarkable true story of 7,000 stranded passengers and the small town in Newfoundland that welcomed them. Cultures clashed and nerves ran high, but uneasiness turned into trust, music soared into the night and gratitude grew into enduring friendships. The 10th Anniversary tour of Rock of Ages will be in town from Tuesday to

Sunday, June 11-16. Broadway’s best party is turning up the volume. Nominated for five Tony Awards®, Rock of Ages captures the iconic era of 1980s Hollywood. Bring the kids to see The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical from Tuesday to Sunday, July 9-14. It is based on the best-selling DisneyHyperion novel by Rick Riordan. The Greek gods are real, and they are ruining Percy Jackson’s life. As a son of Poseidon, Percy has newly discovered powers he can’t control, monsters on his trail, and is on an epic quest to find Zeus’s lightning bolt to prevent a war between the gods. It was nominated for three Drama Desk Awards including Best Musical. No season would be complete without Best of Tampa Bay. The area’s premier food event, a benefit for the Straz Center’s education and mission-based programming and organized by The Producers volunteer group, is scheduled for Saturday, April 6. Single tickets for most performances in the Straz Center’s 2018-2019 season will go on sale to the public on Friday, July 27 and are available online at www.strazcenter.org beginning at 10 a.m. and by phone and in person at the Straz Center Ticket Sales Office beginning at 12 p.m. The Straz is located at 1010 N Macinnes Pl. in Tampa. Brandon Native Earns Military Excellence Award At Recruit Training Command

By Alan Nunn, Recruit Training Command Public Affairs

Seaman Recruit Gabriella Diaz, a 2017 graduate of Brandon High School, graduated as top Sailor from Recruit Training Command, Division 068, earning the Military Excellence Award (MEA) in January. Diaz was proud to be selected for the MEA. “Being awarded the MEA motivates me beyond whatever motivation I had,” Diaz said. “It means a lot to be recognized so early in my Navy career. It proves that anyone, from any background, can do great things and push themselves further than they know.” The Navy Club of the United States Military Excellence Award is the top award presented to the No. 1 recruit of their graduating training group, who best exemplifies the qualities of enthusiasm, devotion to duty, military bearing and teamwork Diaz, 20, said she joined the Navy to pursue a career that is challenging and meaningful. “I feel it leads to more opportunities and experiences when you do things others are afraid to do or hold themselves back from,” Diaz said. “I wanted to have the opportunity to love my job, and both help and protect others at the same time.” Diaz drew inspiration from her

mother, Maria Velarde. “My most significant motivator is my mother,” Diaz said. “She is the most selfless, independent and toughest person I know.” Being in training at RTC during Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s was the tough part of boot camp for Diaz. “I am very familyoriented and spend a lot of time with them so it was hard to not get upset,” Diaz said. “I had to remind myself why I came and the bigger picture of what being at RTC means. It’s the starting point of a lifetime.” She credited her Recruit Division Commanders, Chief Electrician’s Mate Susan Pavao, Hull Maintenance Technician 1st Class Ryan Zanol and Gas Turbine System Technician (Mechanical) 2nd Class Angel Espinoza for their leadership and guidance. After graduation, Diaz will attend apprentice technical training and Electronics Technician ‘A’ School at Great Lakes. Electronics Technicians maintain and repair electronics equipment such as radar, communication and navigation equipment. Electronic Technicians comprise the basis of the ships’ combat systems department aboard ships and are responsible for maintaining the ships’ readiness for combat operations.

2019 Bloomingdale Bulls Baseball Team Looks To Defend Its District Title

Myles Caba winds up to pitch.

The Bloomingdale High School baseball team is looking to build off of a successful 2018 season in which they won their first ever district championship under 12-year Head Coach Kris Wilken. The Bulls (18-8) eventually lost to a very talented Plant team in the regional quarterfinals in an extra-inning thriller. According to Wilken, he has a special team this year. “This team seems really unique,” he said. “The players are all very hard-working kids with great grades, and the chemistry between them has been better than any team I’ve had. What I’m looking forward to most is seeing how much impact all of those factors will have on our overall success.”

A group of parents at Mulrennan Middle School took their children’s safety into their own hands last month. Frustrated by the conditions for students who walk to the Valrico middle school, the parents raised $13,000 through a dodgeball tournament to fund three private crossing guards. Valrico resident and mother of three Mulrennan students, Danielle Waymire spearheaded the fundraiser when one of her children was almost hit by car while walking to school. “It got to the point where enough was enough,” said Waymire, who walks her children to school every day. “I couldn’t just watch cars regularly not yielding and children almost getting hit without doing something.” Waymire approached the school, the school district and the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office asking for crossing guards and continued to get the same answer. “The bottom line is that there is no funding,” she said. Her next step was to find a private crossing guard company and convince the school district to allow the guards if the school could pay them $13,000 for the remainder of the school year. In order to raise the money, the parents and school employees coordinated a dodgeball

tournament with the help of a local business, Dodgeball 2 You. It took less than two weeks for the crossing guards to take their places twice a day directing students and traffic. “They have already made a huge difference,” said Mulrennan parent and Valrico resident Bridget Wilson. “It is amazing how much easier it is to get to the school, even as a driver. It is so much nicer to have the safety in place.” Waymire and Wilson hope that they will not have to fundraise for the crossing guards again next year. The parents are working with Hillsborough County Commissioner Stacy White and Sheriff Chad Chronister to request funding for crossing guards at middle schools throughout the county. White added the issue to the agenda at a Board of County Commissioners meeting earlier this month and Waymire spoke on the issue to the board. They hope to get answers soon about funding for next year. “We are so proud of our school and the fact that we were able to make this happen,” said Wilson. “But we are even happier that local politicians have noticed. We are hoping that by the next school year we won’t have to do this anymore.” Mulrennan Middle School is located at 4215 Durant Rd. in Valrico and can be reached at 651-2100.

Legendary Oak Ridge Boys To Perform At 2019 Strawberry Festival The legendary classic country music icons, The Oakridge Boys, will be entertaining fans at the Strawberry Festival in Plant City. The group is well-known for having one of the most distinctive and recognizable sounds in the music industry. The harmony of The Oak Ridge Boys have produced dozens of country hits and has resulted in Grammy, Dove, Country Music Association (CMA) and Academy of Country Music (ACM) awards as well as an induction in the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, TN. Recently they were honored to sing Amazing Grace at the funeral of President George H.W. Bush. The Oak Ridge Boys-Richard Sterban, Duane Allen, Joe Bonsall and William Lee Golden-bring more than 45 years of tradition to the stage. They are a staple at the festival and have been part of the headline entertainment participating in the festival for more than 25 years. “We love performing in Florida and the Strawberry Festival,” said Sterban with his legendary deep bass voice. “We may just hold the record for the most performances there.” In 2018, The Oak Ridge Boys were the first performers to christen the Strawberry Festival’s new $5.5 million amphitheater. Their tour takes them to more than 150 locations each year, but the Strawberry Festival is one of their favorite venues.

“Florida is such a beautiful state,” said Sterban. “We always get a few flats of strawberries when we’re there.” Sterban says that their performance this year will naturally include the fan favorites as well as some music from their new album, 17th Avenue Revival, produced by highly sought-after, Grammy-winning Nashville producer Dave Cobb, who has produced records for county music stars including Chris Stapleton and Jason Isbell. The Oak Ridge Boys recorded the album in the historic RCA Studio A in Nashville, where other legendary artists recorded, such as Elvis, Dolly Parton and Chet Atkins. “17th Avenue Revival marries oldtime rockabilly with a gospel sound,” said Sterban. “It’s meaningful music that represents the revival of soul and spirit. It’s a great balance.” The Oak Ridge Boys are sure to entertain during their family-friendly, fun performance that will aim to please the classic country lovers as well as hopefully bring new fans to experience the timeless music of The Oak Ridge Boys. “You can count on hearing Elvira, oom poppa, oom poppa, mow mow,” said Sterban. “I think that’s the law.” They will be performing on Thursday, February 28 at 3:30 p.m. at the Florida Strawberry Festival located at 303 N. Lemon St. in Plant City. Tickets are $20. For more information, visit www.FLstawberryfestival.com.
