Maloy shared his fishing story during a recent event at Bass Pro Shops, which encouraged young and old to take advantage of the great outdoors. Diagnosed with epilepsy, Maloy endures seizures regularly, which prevents him to take part in most sports. Fortunately, fishing, which is his favorite, is not one of them. Summer Safety Tips For HOA Communities Summer is a time for fun and vacations for families, but it is also an opportune time for burglars to take advantage of empty homes. Here are some tips on keeping your house safe while you are away this summer, courtesy of www.HOAmanagement.com.
Have Your Mail Held At The Post Office
If you are going to be away for more than a few days, having your mail held at the post office is a good idea. Mail piling up in your mailbox while you are away is a sign to burglars that no one is home. Having your newspapers held is a good idea as well. Call the company to have the delivery stopped for a few days, or have a neighbor pick them up for you so your driveway is not cluttered with papers.
Have Someone Mow Your Lawn
If you leave on a trip, arrange to have your lawn mowed at least once while you are away. You can call a mowing company, or arrange for a neighbor to help you out.
Form A Neighborhood Watch Group
and HOA to form a neighborhood watch group. This can help protect your neighborhood from vandalism and burglary. If the neighborhood watch group knows that a family will be gone on vacation, they can take extra steps to pay attention to that property and keep an eye out until the family returns. Signs posted about the neighborhood watch group can also deter a burglar.
Don’t Post About Your Vacation On Social Media
If you and your family are leaving on vacation, don’t post about it on Facebook or Instagram or any other social media site until you return home. Photos and locations of wherever you are is something that should be avoided while your home is empty. If you have a few newspapers lying in your driveway people might wonder if you are home or not, but if you post a picture of your family in a different country and tag a location, they will know for certain that you are not home. All these tips and more can be found at hoamanagement.com/blog/summersafety-tips-for-hoa-communities/.

When you pull a penny out of your pocket you usually would not think twice after seeing the bronze color to hand it over to the cash register. What if that penny had more significance to it than any normal penny? Look twice at the head on that penny. Is it President Lincoln or is it a Native American? Though rare, Indian Head Pennies are just one of few coins that light a spark in local collectors of the Brandon Coin Club that inspire their love for history. Members are a mix of people from different age groups that either have collected and have been interested in studying coins their whole life or have a limited amount of knowledge on coins and come eager to learn. According to the Brandon Coin Club President Paul Giordano, anyone is welcome to the meetings and the younger generations are encouraged to come out and expand their knowledge on the history that lies behind a given coin. “We are all like-minded,” Giordano said. “We all like coins and each coin has a story to tell that you can hear.” Each meeting features presentations

According to Vice President Bill Jones, the love for coins is influenced by a person’s interest in filling the historical wholes from a coin’s antiquity. Jones is in charge of presenting the educational background of coins from all over the world and the given time period. Brandon Lawyer Debuts Invention To Cool Beverages, Soups Quickly
HOURS: Mon-Sat 10am-7pm Sun 12pm-5pm
By Katelyn Massarelli
Inventor, Jack Kramer, using Quick Coolit to cool down his hot beverage.
When you want a hot drink or soup, you do not want to have to wait for it to cool down. You either drink it right away causing mouth burns or put ice in it causing the drink to dilute and losing the flavor you desired. Jack Kramer, bankruptcy and personal injury lawyer, has invented a device dedicated to solve this problem. “I have been doing personal injury and bankruptcy work for over 20 years now in Brandon,” Kramer said. “I've worked hard to help my clients. I understand how important it is for everyone to have a new start in their lives. I also like thinking of little ways to make life easier for everyone.” Kramer’s invention, Quick Coolit, is designed to absorb heat from a hot beverage, making it just the right temperature without having to wait. The device uses ultralight metal alloy, a less dense metal that can suck up heat and get rid of the heat just as fast after running it under cool water. Five to 10 seconds is all it takes to make your soup or beverage a temperature perfect for consumption.
Three years ago, Kramer first got the idea for Quick Coolit from his and his wife’s experiences drinking hot tea and soup. Seeing the problem with putting ice in a beverage and having the flavor diluted by the melted ice was the inspiration Kramer needed to come up with the idea. “I hit upon the idea of a radiator of sorts that I made by placing several large flat washers spaced out along a long bolt with a screwdriver handle on the end to insulate it so it could be held, once hot,” Kramer said, “I tried it in cups of tea and coffee I had superheated in the microwave like you get so often at Starbucks or McDonalds and after swirling my prototype around in the liquid a few seconds the results were dramatic.” He started with water heated to 160 degrees, the temperature a hot coffee or tea is served at in Starbucks, and after swirling Quick Coolit in the water for 10 seconds, the temperature dropped 20 degrees. Another use he found for his invention was cooling wines or cold beverages by swirling it around just as you would a hot beverage. “I have always enjoyed taking things apart to see whether I could fix them or not since, hey, it's not working what do I have to lose?” Kramer said. “More often than not I’ll find that I can usually get things working again and I think a lot about everyday problems and their solutions.” Learn more about Quick Coolit or purchase the device at www.quickcoolit. com. There are demonstration videos available for customers. A Quick Coolit device costs $19.95.

Ending the 2015-2016 school year, thousands of students representing 28 high schools throughout Hillsborough County had a chance to celebrate one the most important days of their young lives: graduation. Included during each graduation ceremony, or as some call it degree day, commencement, or invocation, is the traditional valedictorian and salutatorian speeches delivered by exemplary seniors who stood out from the rest of their classmates due to their personal achievements. The often emotionally charged events held around the country at the end of May and early June is a time to say goodbye as students, teachers and parents reflect on memories, some of which will be cherished forever, while others many would rather forget. This year, once again graduation ceremonies were scheduled to held at the Florida State Fairgrounds Expo Hall. For a full list of the 2016 graduations, visit www.sdhc.k12.fl.us.

Jehovah’s Witnesses Focus On Loyalty At Annual Summer Conventions
By Tamas Mondovics
With the focus on the topic of loyalty, Jehovah’s Witnesses are anticipating another increase in attendees as they host this year’s annual conventions in the United States and around the world. The same is anticipated to be true locally, as the witnesses once again cordially invite the general public in the Tampa Bay area to attend this summer’s convention entitled; “Remain Loyal to Jehovah.” According to Joseph Lavore, a local spokesperson for the witnesses, joining millions in attendance at multiple threeday conventions simultaneously held worldwide, a series of five regional conventions have also been scheduled to be held locally at the Florida State Fairgrounds Expo Hall. In a press release, Lavore noted last year nearly 30,000 attended the conventions in Tampa and this year’s attendance is estimated to be over 35,000 from Tampa Bay and West Central Florida. The series of three-day convention program is scheduled to start on Friday mornings and consists of a total of 49 different topics related to the main theme, focusing on how Christians can maintain loyalty to God in their lives. In addition to the routine Bible-based talks and presentations that the witnesses are known for, this year’s convention is also boasting of 35 different videos and musical presentations, which have been
prepared specifically for the program. Two short films will be shown on Saturday and Sunday entitled Hope for What We Do Not See and O Jehovah, I Trust in You. “We strongly believe that loyalty is an essential part of any healthy relationship,” David A. Semonian, a spokesman for Jehovah’s Witnesses at their world headquarters in Brooklyn, New York, stated in a press release, found on the official website, www.jw.org. “Our convention this year features content that will help people develop stronger bonds with friends, family members and, above all, with God. We are confident that all who attend will enjoy this program.” The first two English language conventions in Tampa will be held the weekend of Friday, July 22 and Friday, July 29, followed by two Spanish language conventions on Friday, August 5, and August 12. A final English language convention will be held the weekend of August 19. Morning sessions start at 9:20 a.m., and afternoon sessions begin at 1:25 p.m. Admission and parking is free and, as it is true at the witnesses’ place of worship in their local Kingdom Halls, no collections are taken. As in previous years, Jehovah’s Witnesses will engage in a door to door invitation campaign to promote interest in the program and encourage neighbors to attend. Visit www.jw.org.

Area YMCAs Offer Free Meals, Swim Lessons This Summer
By Kathy L. Collins
Area YMCAs are offering a free summer food program to any child through the age of 18, along with a free drowning prevention program.
This summer, YMCAs in the greater Brandon and SouthShore areas have partnered with Hillsborough County Public Schools to offer a free summer food program to any child through the age of 18. The Summer Food Program is available from Monday, June 13 through Friday, August 5. Meal times vary at each Y, so visit www.tampaymca.org/programs/camp/summer for more information. While children need programs during the summer to keep them active and prevent them from falling behind in school, children cannot focus when they are hungry. Children who rely on free or reduced lunches during the school year are at risk of going hungry when school is not in session. In partnership with Hillsborough County Public Schools, the Y’s Summer Food Program helps fill the gap for many children who rely on low cost lunches during the school year. Last summer, the Y’s program served more than 135,000 meals and 200,000 snacks. According to Lalita Llerena,
communications director for the Tampa Area YMCAs, “We have provided free summer meals to our campers and community children for years, but this is the first year that the Y has partnered with the school district to provide this program.” In addition to the Summer Food Program, area YMCAs will also offer Go For Green drowning prevention program at no extra charge to campers this summer. The Y’s Go For Green program provides free swim lessons to Y summer campers who are unable to pass the swim test. They receive free swim lessons throughout the summer until they can pass the test and get a green wristband. The program is made possible due to support from the Tampa Bay Rays, United Way Suncoast and the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County. “When kids are out of school, they can face hurdles that prevent them from reaching their full potential, related to hunger, water safety, academics, safe spaces to play and health,” said Rob Gray, vice president of operations for the Family Y at Big Bend Road. “Through summer camp and other youth development programs, the Y helps youth achieve more, providing a safe place to learn, stay healthy and build friendships.” For more information about these programs, visit www.tampaymca.org.

Recognized the world over as an innovator in its field, Mosaic embraces its mission of helping the world grow the food it needs. With more than 280,000 acres under direct ownership, Mosaic is also one of Florida’s largest landowners, and has owned Streamsong’s 16,000 acres of land in Polk County for more than 50 years. “Lost 31.5 pounds, Size 8 to “0” As a mother of 2 and business owner, I felt as if I had tried everything humanly possible to get in the best shape for my health and overall well-being with the time and resources I had available to me. I had been dedicated to cardio exercise and strength building for years, but was not seeing the results I thought I should be seeing. I decided it was time to go AFTER to the experts.” “I looked at a couple of possibilities, and determined that if I wanted the best results, I needed to go to a proven source of expertise. I had seen RobZ Fitness testimonials and heard about the results and after doing some research on what I should expect and gathering a great deal of courage, I decided to walk in their door. I found RobZ staff to be very welcoming, encouraging and knowledgeable. As hard as I had tried all these years, many of the exercises were incorrect in technique, not enough weight, or just simply not pushing beyond what I thought I was capable of doing.” “The results were fast and furious- I was amazed at how simple the theory of exercise and healthy eating really was, and although not one for pressing myself in the area of physical fitness, I found the benefits FAR outweigh the sweat equity.” “Not only did I surprisingly drop 31.5 lbs of body fat and a BEFORE 14.1% body fat change the first three months (a welcome plus), but lost 19 total inches (6.5” waist and 4” thigh, etc.) and was seeing visible sculpting. I had walked in hoping to tone up, which I did, but found so much more. Rob mentioned at the beginning I was in better shape than 20% of women my age and now I am in better shape than 91% of women. I suffered from migraines since adolescence and being on RobZ plan, I did not have one migraine- which to me, was nothing short of a miracle. The trainers helped me to understand the dynamics behind balancing food intake and how this affected the chemical balance in my system. Maurica, my trainer, was fun and encouraging. I had never looked forward to working out the way I have while working at RobZ with Maurica. The workouts turned out to be the biggest stress relief of my life and the education I received will follow me and motivate me for a lifetime. My only regret is that I did not walk into RobZ sooner! Let Them (Not) Eat Cake
T
he tradition of serving a wedding cake may seem to be as old as time. In fact, the beginnings of wedding cake traditions were documented in ancient Rome and medieval England.
From early recipes containing wheat and barley to sweeter varieties couples have relished the opportunity to playfully smash in each other’s faces, cake has been part of our wedding traditions for hundreds of years, according to Gastronomica. com. Today, however, it is becoming more common for couples to ditch the wedding cake altogether in exchange for more modern sweets. Intricately decorated petit fours, cake pops, cupcakes, ice cream, sorbet and other sweets are finding their way to the table at the reception.
ALMOST CAKE Cupcakes are a culinary trend that’s found acceptance from the food truck to the formal wedding affair. But that doesn’t mean they have to be ordinary. Consider a tower display of lacy cupcake wrappers adorning miniature gourmet confections for a sweet that does double duty as decor. Pies also are an option. Choose decadent cheesecakes laced with liquor or pastries filled with summer’s freshest berries.

guests can sample.
FROZEN DELIGHTS Guests looking to cool off during your summertime affair will welcome trendy frozen

rom feminine floral prints to all-grown-up plunging back lines, the trends in summer wedding gowns are decidedly girly.
Floral prints are practically made for summer, and they’re a trend that’s goes hand in hand with weddings. Florals have been big in the fashion world at large for a few years, and brides are getting in on the trend, too. If your theme is ultra-feminine, incorporating pretty pink roses and creams, a floral gown will be a perfect match — from an all-over print to flowery details such as cascading blooms made of lace and beadwork. Florals also are suited to more colorful looks, such as a print with bright purple blooms. You’re limited only by the types and shades of flowers found in nature itself.
SHOWING SOME SKIN A trendy place to incorporate visual effect on a wedding gown is the back. Designers are using super-sleek low back lines, as well as illusion details that seem to float. Pearls draped across the back and intricate lace designs are popular aesthetics in bridal gowns. Deep V necklines also are showing up on wedding gowns, as well as off-the-shoulder straps. Both make for seamless transitions to back line details. These skin-baring styles have the added benefit of

keeping the bride cool in style during a summer wedding.
SUBTLE COLORS Gone are the days of the allwhite wedding gown. A current trend for the trip down the
aisle is lightly-hued wedding dresses in blush and cream. Flowing lightly colored tulle and coordinating flowers in the hair make for a super girly look. Pair similarly colored pearls
with rose gold jewelry, which is currently experiencing a spike in popularity.
MORE DETAILS Brides are adding a long, loosely tied belt to accentuate
the waist. A neutral-hued belt is adds interest to a pale-colored dress. Another detail that’s taking hold is feathers. Flowing from the waist or back, covering the skirt or contouring the bodice.

Host A French Exchange Student
Having an exchange student from France for two and a half weeks is something most of us have dreamed of or seen on TV. You and your family can experience the exchange student’s fantasy first hand while participating in the Exchange Cultural International Program. Students usually arrive during July each year. Twice a week trips are planned to include theme parks, shopping, beaches and picnics. Most of all, they have the chance to learn some of our culture, improve on their English and making lasting friendships with you and your family. All students come with their own monies and trips already paid for, hosts simply provide them with a bed to sleep on and involve them in family activities. Each family has $150 that the student puts toward family events as well. Contact 449-3308 or ecitampa@ hotmail.com if you can host or would like more information.
