Osprey Observer Honored With BOCC Commendation For 15th Anniversary

Developer, Woerner Equity Group is now redeveloping the former Albertsons Plaza for Sprouts Farmers Market, PetSmart and Orange Theory Fitness slated for early next year.

ft., leaving a little more than 20,000 sq. ft. for a new PetSmart store. Orange Theory Fitness will make use of the former 3,500 sq. ft., liquor store space at the north end of the building closer to Miller Rd. Happy with the news of the long awaited redevelopment of the site in the heart of their community, many expressed relief and spoke highly of the choice of new stores. “So very excited about the construction starting on the new Sprouts store (old Albertsons on Lithia),” posted Buckhorn Preserve resident Shawn Bernier on his Facebook page shortly after he heard the news. “I was at the Sprouts in Carrollwood, last week and it is a fabulous store. Kind of like Trader Joes.” Hillsborough County Commissioner Stacy White, whose district includes the Valrico community, also spoke highly of the renovation, and the need for a redevelopment of the plaza, which by sitting vacant was slowly becoming an eyesore.

Staff members from The Osprey Observer attended a recent meeting of the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners where they were given a Commendation by Commissioner Stacy White.

The Osprey Observer staff received an exciting honor from the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) last month. The team, led by Managing Editor Marie Gilmore, was given a Commendation from the BOCC celebrating the publication’s 15th anniversary and recognizing its impact on the community. At the April 5 BOCC meeting in downtown Tampa, members of the Osprey Observer staff were recognized by County Commissioner Stacy White and were presented with a plaque commemorating the commendation and congratulating the newspaper on its 15th anniversary. The plaque also recognized the publication for providing informative local news to the community. During the BOCC’s regular meetings, commissioners often give out proclamations and commendations to recognize important dates and causes and to celebrate significant contributions of businesses, groups and individuals to the people of Hillsborough County. “Commissioners are free to choose recognitions as they wish and commissioners choose to recognize individuals,

groups and businesses for a variety of reasons,” said White, who explained during the meeting that he looks forward to receiving the Osprey Observer in his mailbox every month. “I decided to recognize the Osprey Observer for this milestone anniversary because it is a successful small business in the district

The long held debate and guessing game about what store(s) if any, might occupy the more than 55,000 sq. ft. former Alberstons grocery store building that has been sitting vacant for the past few years in Valrico is officially over. Developer, Woerner Equity Group, a West Palm Beach Florida-based full service real estate firm that focuses on the acquisition and development of commercial properties with an emphasis on shopping centers, is now redeveloping the site to house Sprouts Farmers Market, PetSmart and Orange Theory Fitness. Renamed, Valrico Landing, the site is located just east of Brandon, at the intersection on the northeast corner of Lithia Pinecrest Rd. and Bloomingdale Ave. in Valrico. Coupled with signalized access, the entire plaza will feature 155 parking spots and will also include one additional 4,000 sq. ft. outparcel for rent near the front of the site. Woerner officials confirmed that the building will be divided into three sections with Sprouts occupying nearly 30,000 sq.

TGH Celebrates Healthplex Grand Opening, Emergency Services Offered

By Tamas Mondovics

emphasized that patients will be able to come to the Healthplex to treat a cold, rather than waiting and winding up at the TGH Emergency Department with pneumonia. The Healthplex first opened its Emergency Center, which includes 20 private beds and two resuscitation bays open around the clock to treat adult and pediatric patients, while the on-site helipad is promising to allow Aeromed to Residents watch as the Aeromed chopper lands at the newly opened TGH Brandon Healthplex.

After nearly two years in the making, including land acquisition, planning, design and construction, TGH Brandon Healthplex, Tampa General Hospital’s first state-of-the-art, off-site, outpatient medical center is now open. Designed to be a convenient destination for patients to access a broad spectrum of quality health care services – all under one roof—the long anticipated 130,000 sq. ft., four-story comprehensive ambulatory center is located at 10740 Palm River Rd. near Topgolf. TGH officials said that the new facility will house the hospital’s first free-standing adult and pediatric emergency departments, a helipad, surgery center, diagnostic imaging, laboratory services, and physician offices. It will provide easy access to outpatient ambulatory care. “This is really Tampa General’s first major step into the new world of health care, which is bringing health care to you,” said John A. Brabson Jr. chairman of the TGH Board of Directors. “Our goal is to offer the same excellent care, but to do it in a more efficient way, and in a more convenient way for you.” TGH Brandon Healthplex celebrated the start of the multi-phased opening with a free, community open house, giving guests a chance for a sneak peek of the facility. The event saw representatives from the Tampa Bay Rays, the Tampa Bay Lightning, Top Golf, iFly indoor skydiving, and the American Heart Association. Radio station WQYK provided music, while food was offered by Chick-Fil-A and Brandon’s Corner Bakery Café. Boasting of the benefits, Brabson

fly patients needing more advanced medical care to the main hospital on Davis Islands for treatment. TGH spokesperson John Dunn said that the Healthplex Ambulatory Outpatient Surgery Center has seen its first case mid-April, and will provide a variety of same-day surgeries for adults and pediatric patients. The surgery center features six operating rooms with space to add two more in the future, and two endoscopy rooms. It also includes 13 recovery rooms and 24 pre-and-post-procedure bays. Additional services include the fullservice laboratory to provide a wide range of lab tests, an Imaging Services area, which includes digital X-rays, CT scans and ultrasounds. A full-service pharmacy is currently available for patients, employees, and later offered to the public, is now located on the first floor and accepts most major health insurance plans. A café area is next to the pharmacy and sells beverages, salads, snacks, soups and other items. The new building also has room for offices for Tampa General Medical Group (TGMG) and USF primary and specialty care physicians. For more information, visit www.tghhealthplex.com.

Barbara McGinnis, The Mother In Mother-Daughter Yellowfin Realty Team

Kim Smith, The Daughter In Mother-Daughter Yellowfin Realty Team

REALTOR® Barbara McGinnis’ personality is as vibrant as her bejeweled glasses. She made them herself, she said, with tiny red, white, and blue gems for a patriotic look. McGinnis obtained her real estate license in 1985, after raising her three children, and has been serving the Tampa Bay real estate market ever since. She started working for Yellowfin Realty in 2014, and splits her time between helping people list or buy a home and managing rental properties. She specializes in first-time home buyers, although she’s always happy to see repeat buyers or customers from the past. According to McGinnis, the most important part of working with new home buyers is to remain patient. The average buyer sees eight to ten homes before finding the one that will be a future home. “We keep looking until that smile crosses their face that they just can’t wipe off, and they light up like a Christmas tree,” McGinnis said. Right now, there are “more buyers than homes to buy,” said McGinnis. “We’re absolutely blowing up.” Because of the market, where it can be hard for buyers to find existing homes

It was Kim Smith’s mother, Brandon REALTOR® Barbara McGinnis, who convinced Smith to take the real estate licensing exam. By that point, Smith already had a wealth of knowledge on the subject, but in a way that made studying for the exam more difficult. “The book does it one way,” Smith said, “but the reality is totally different.” Now a REALTOR® herself, Smith works closely with McGinnis on the sale, purchase, and management of properties. They work so closely, in fact, that they share an office – and on days when her two daughters are off from school, they can be found around the office, too. Smith was pregnant with her second daughter when she learned that her employer was downsizing, and she started working with McGinnis a few months after her daughter was born. Smith grew up in Seffner, went to Armwood High School, and now lives on the same homestead property where she was raised. Family is clearly very important to Smith and McGinnis, and their proximity while working together means that they often finish each other’s sentences. Smith talks about the growth in Brandon, for

in their price range and desired location, many are turning to developing communities. Especially in those situations, McGinnis said, a realtor is essential for navigating the contracts, inspection, and other aspects of the process. “Most homebuilders will tell you that 80% are from realtors bringing someone in,” McGinnis said. “We know where communities are, we know the amenities. We know how to take the back roads.” McGinnis calls Yellowfin Realty “phenomenal,” and loves that it’s familyowned. She works with her daughter, Kim Smith, which helps to keep them always available for their clients. They share an office and bounce ideas off each other, although it means that it can be difficult to step away from work. “When we’re on vacation,” McGinnis said, “it’s a rolling business.” Yellowfin Realty was established in 2009, and is headquartered at 11256 Winthrop Main St. in Riverview. example, and reminisces about a time when Highway 60 was only two lanes wide. “But as big as Brandon is getting, it’s still a bedroom community,” McGinnis pointed out. It’s that smalltown feel that both Smith and McGinnis enjoy about Brandon. However, they also caution about scams that arise when an area experiences such rapid growth. “Rentals go in hours,” Smith said, and there have been a rash of ads on Craigslist that offer low monthly rates, and then the supposed landlord collects deposits from multiple people for a property that’s not even available. “People need to make sure they’re dealing with a reputable real estate company,” Smith said. It’s one reason she and her mother are passionate about helping local residents find properties to live. After Public Input, County Superintendent Recommends Postponing Implementation Of Student Bell Times Changes To 2018-2019 Season

By Tamas Mondovics

Last month, Hillsborough County Public Schools Superintendent Jeff Eakins informed district families, staff and community members with his final recommendation to wait one year before making district wide changes. Eakin’s note reached the community just days ahead of a Special Called Board Meeting on Tuesday, April 25, during which the school board approved with a 6 to 1 vote for the new 2018-2019 bell time schedule. The 2017-2018 bell time schedule will not change. Eakins emphasized that the proposed bell time changes are necessary because the district’s current arrival and dismissal times do not allow enough time for bus drivers to get students to and from school on time and stated that the district must correct this in order to secure the appropriate number of instructional minutes for students. Less than a month earlier, Eakins informed parents and guardians of the more than 200,000 elementary, middle and high school students in the nation’s eighth largest district of the proposed bell time change asking all to review it and send in their input so a final recommendation can be brought to the School

Board for a vote. “After you have watched the video and studied the attached proposed bell times, we look forward to your feedback once again,” Eakins said, while acknowledging that the issue prompts parents and students to have many questions and concerns. The request for a feedback of the already proposed new schedule seems to have caught many parents off guard, a great number of whom are still dealing with the whiplash of the School Board’s controversial vote to end its courtesy busing. School officials said that the proposed bell time changes are based on feedback from teachers, parents and students involving nearly two dozen schools over a considerable time. Eakins called the current schedule unrealistic, and that, “Something had to change in order to meet the needs of our students and properly secure the

opportunity to take more classes, including Advanced Placement and electives such as Art, Music and Band to reach their graduation requirements. HCPS spokesperson Tanya Arja added that the change will provide a more efficient bus schedule, and improve instruction for students due to maintaining or adding more planning time for teachers. As expected, Eakins comments eventually circled back to the buses when he said, “Adjusting the bell schedule will allow a greater percentage of school bus drivers to transport three tiers of students (Elementary, Middle and High School). This shift translates to a cost savings of over two and a half million dollars for the school district, officials said. While the topic of buses, students’ safety and bell times continue to be a formidable foe to many, to Hillsborough County Public Schools Eakins and his staff it is clearly a Superintendent Jeff Eakins addresses parents and teachers about the district’s proposed new means to save money and a prombell schedule. ised goal to work toward a 90 pergetting to practice and after-school cent graduation rate by the year 2020. activities sooner, which means the stuAt the end, Eakins recommended to dents can get home earlier. wait one year before making any Elementary students are said to change to the bell schedule, stating that gain an extra 15 minutes of Art, Music the additional time will allow the school and PE, which school officials said district and families to make any necesimproves their overall health and wellsary adjustments and clarify questions being. or concerns. Children swing and play at the recently renovated Paul Sander Park, located at 602 W. Bloomingdale Ave. in Brandon. The park has reopened this month.

Brandon’s Paul Sanders Park, home to one of Hillsborough County’s most heavily used playgrounds, reopened the first week of April, following a two-month renovation and expansion project. Named after long time Brandon resident Paul Sanders, in 1991 the park is known by many as “The Tree Park” thanks to its mature oak trees that provide shade by means of a natural canopy. The news of its closing in early February to upgrade and expand the park located at 602 W. Bloomingdale Ave. was bittersweet for its regular guests, who, while agreeing with the much-needed facelift, had to exercise some patience during the duration of the project. It was no surprise to see a large crowd on opening day welcoming the finished product that includes a brand new playground along with additional play structures. “I love this park,” said Riverview residents Carolyn Napier, who has brought her son and daughter ages five and six to opening day. The playground features traditional swings and slides along with next-gen-

eration playground equipment that encourages children of all abilities to climb, run, and play. To charm the children and those young at heart, the new equipment includes a Tyrannosaurus Rex that appears to be arising from the earth. Additional playground pieces are also designed to help children on the autism spectrum who become overstimulated. While the crowd of children lined up to give the new playground pieces a fair try, there was no shortage of many who still just wanted to climb the trees. As part of the renovation, $315,000 was covered by the County Parks and Recreation department's budget for Capital Improvement Projects. Workers also renovated the restrooms and shelters, repaved the parking lot, added sidewalks, and created an additional entrance to improve traffic flow. The facelift is filling up the park daily as it attracts many new families. Napier said she hopes that the park will be a little less crowed after the newness wears down but added, “We have been coming to the this park for the past four years and I am definitely planning on coming back more often, as long as it’s not too crowded.” The park is now open daily from sunrise to sunset. Bridges Dental Launches New Affordable Monthly Wellness Dental Plan Bridges Dental, a Valrico-based full-service dental practice founded and owned by Dr. Laura Coyle Bridges, recently announced a unique monthly wellness plan will be offered for all of their present and future patients living without dental insurance. Developed to provide a sustainable and affordable path to healthier teeth for patients without dental insurance coverage, the Bridges Dental Wellness Plan will provide everyone with the ability to maintain a regular hygiene schedule and to complete needed dental treatments. “Too many individuals in our country today forgo visiting the dentist because they don’t have dental insurance or their current benefit plan doesn’t cover the dental treatments they need,” said Dr. Bridges. “That’s perfectly understandable, especially with the costs associated with quality dental care. What makes us different here at Bridges Dental is that we, unlike big insurance companies, have built our business with the best interest of the patient at heart and that means creating affordable payment plans that accommodate different income levels.” The Wellness Plans will come with three different options: the lowest plan

available at $20 per month including two annual cleanings, xrays, and exams, while the top plan is available at $29.99 per month including all of the annual cleaning benefits plus 40% off of all major work. None of the plans have maximums attached or waiting periods for approval. The average annual savings ranges from $503 for the Silver Plan to over $1,000 on the Platinum Plan. “Our goal is to provide everyone access to the best dental care,” said Dr. Bridges. “That starts by making it affordable for the everyday family. I was raised in, live in and raise my family in this community and am honored to practice here and serve the residents of this amazing family community.” Dr. Bridges has been a resident of Brandon for the past 30 years. She earned an undergraduate degree from Florida State University, a degree in Biomedical Science from the University of South Florida and graduated with her doctorate in dental medicine from the University of Florida College Dentistry. Traditional High Tea & Raffle Supports PEO, Women's Education Ladies, are you looking for an excuse to adorn yourself with pearls and don a fancy hat? If so, grab your gal pals for a traditional High Tea on Saturday, May 13 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., at Riverview United Methodist Church. The local Chapter AM-DV of P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization) International is hosting the High Tea as a fundraising event to support and celebrate the advancement of women in education. Since 1869, P.E.O. International has helped tens of thousands of women achieve their educational goals through scholarships, grants, and low-interest loans. The Sisterhood originated in Iowa with only seven members. Today, the organization consists of nearly a quarter of a million members in thousands of chapters hailing from all 50 states and Canada. Fran Carillo, the former president of the local Chapter AM-DV, expressed much gratitude for the organization as she shared her special connection. “I went to college at the age of 37. When I was doing my teaching internship in 1978, the chapter nominated me for a Program of Continuing Education grant. At the time, I wasn’t working because of my internship, so the money really helped. ... Then when I retired 20 years

later from teaching, I joined P.E.O. to help other women. I have been a member since 1999,” Carrillo said. The High Tea will feature varieties of teas accompanied by scones served with clotted cream and jam, chocolate-covered strawberries and other assorted desserts. For those with savory palates, the menu will include pinwheel sandwiches, chicken salad croissant sandwiches, and cucumber sandwiches. The elegant event will boast traditional fine China table settings, beautifully hand-made boxed candy favors and lovely photo opportunities. Additionally, guests can expect door prizes, a raffle for themed baskets, and a 50/50 raffle, adding to the fun and benefitting the noble cause. Tea ticket prices are $20 per person, with the proceeds going towards scholarships for young women. Tickets are sold as single seats, but you may reserve a table for a group of six or eight women. The church is located at 8002 US Hwy. 301 S. in Riverview. Contact Connie Mosley at 766-7104 or Fran Carrillo at 677-6836. Visit www.peointernational.org.

Neighborhood Mini-Grants Now Available From Hillsborough County Could your neighborhood use a new sign or a bench? The Hillsborough County office of Neighborhood Relations recently opened its application period for minigrants which will award $96,000 to groups throughout the county with the goal of improving and strengthening neighborhoods. According to the Neighborhood Relations Office, groups have recently sought money for duck and bat houses, a butterfly garden and a rack for storing residents’ kayaks, among other requests. Valrico’s River Hills community spent it’s grant money from 2016 on bird houses for the Purple Martin Swallow and a nesting platform for Ospreys. However, Neighborhood Relations Office states that the grants are not just for physical enhancements, the program’s goal is to bring neighbors together and bolster community pride Grants will be awarded for up to $2,500, but groups that apply must be pre-registered with the office of neighborhood relations and applicants must take a mandatory online orienta-

tion, which is offered twice a month, before applying. The program began in 1988 and funds are allocated to it by the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners. “We urge neighborhood leaders to think creatively when brainstorming about projects and types of community involvement,” said a Neighborhood Relations press release, which also explained that applications are evaluated by a committee which uses questions to rank each request. Applications for grants to fund food or drinks, infrastructure projects, cameras or electronics and those that can be funded through another source, are not considered for minigrants. However, grants are frequently given to help host community events, establish neighborhood watch programs and train neighborhood leaders to be more effective. The deadline for submissions is 5 p.m. on Friday, August 4. For more information, call 272-5860 or visit www.hillsboroughcounty.org.

Smart Investing

Can Help You Keep Moving Melissa L Haskins Financial Advisor

Toward Your Goals

It’s Kentucky Derby time again. Even if you’re not much of a horse racing fan, you might appreciate all the Derby’s pageantry – the mint juleps, the women’s beautiful hats, the singing of “My Old Kentucky Home,” and so on. But if you look beyond the hoopla, you’ll realize just how much work it takes to put on such an event. And the efforts of one group in particular – the jockeys – may be able to provide you with some lessons in life – and in investing. For starters, consider the stamina the jockeys show as they steer 1,000-pound thoroughbreds around the track at Churchill Downs. Riding a racehorse is difficult, demanding and dangerous, requiring enormous endurance on the part of the jockey. And in many areas of life, you too will need to show some staying power. That’s certainly true when you invest. You need the fortitude to keep on investing, in good markets and bad ones, and during all the phases of your life – even after you’ve retired. It might not always be easy – during turbulent markets, you may be tempted to take a “time out” – but the most successful investors are usually the most persistent ones. Here’s another trait shown by Kentucky Derby jockeys: vision. Jockeys must be able to spot the spaces they need to go through to gain the position they want. In other words, they see where they want to go. As an investor, you need this same ability. To illustrate: What do you want your retirement to look like? Will you stay close to home and volunteer? Will you travel the world? Will you even open a small business? You need to envision your goals if you’re going to achieve them.

Strategy is also important to jockeys. They all want to win the race, but they employ different methods. For example, three-time Kentucky Derby winner Calvin Borel’s strategy usually involves riding his horse on the rail at the inside of the track – so much so that his nickname is “Bo’rail.” As an investor, you need a strategy that’s appropriate for your goals, risk tolerance and time horizon. Such a strategy will involve choosing a suitable mix of investments, reviewing your portfolio’s progress at regular intervals, and making changes as necessary. Finally, jockeys need knowledge. Is the track in good shape? How has the horse been behaving lately? What’s the weather going to be at post time? To be a good investor, you also need plenty of knowledge. You’ll need to pose some questions about individual investments you’re considering: How will this investment perform under different market environments? Will this investment fit well into my portfolio, or do I already have others similar to it? Is this an investment I can hold for the long term? And you’ll also need to learn about yourself as an investor: What is my tolerance for risk? Am I fully considering all my goals, such as college for my kids, my own retirement and the type of legacy I’d like to leave? There’s no shortage of questions for active investors to ask – and the best investors never stop learning. You can learn a lot from Kentucky Derby jockeys. By applying some of their skills and habits to your investment activities, you can keep moving toward your goals – and you won’t even have to run in circles. A yard in Riverview was recently transformed to make it accessible for a 25 year old wheelchair bound veteran thanks to the new TV series Flip My Florida Yard with Chad Crawford.

Riverview resident, Brandon Walker, a 25 year old wheelchair-bound veteran and his parents, recently received a backyard landscaping overhaul thanks to Flip My Florida Yard, a new weekly TV series which recently aired its first episode nationally on Fox Sports Sun and locally on WTSPChannel 10. The yard work, completed in one day, was done in the Park Creek neighborhood and is estimated to be worth $50,000. The work included constructing a lot of outdoor living spaces to give Walker easy access to the backyard, which includes a hot tub and pergola. Walker said, “My new yard is super rad. There’s a workout area for me, and I'm able to go out there independently. I loved the crew and how they designed the yard to be so accessible for me.” The Walker’s had recently closed on their home, and were selected for Flip My Yard after they submitted information describing their yard and their son’s story. The yard work is completely

also redone yards in Bradenton, Newberry (near Gainesville), Oviedo (near Orlando) and Fort Lauderdale. The family will also get one year of free pest control. The host of the show, Chad Crawford, was onsite during the overhaul. He is also the host of How to do Florida with Chad Crawford. Flip My Florida Yard is created by the Crawford Media Group, and is also responsible for the Emmy-award winning show How to Do Florida. The new series will challenge the way Floridians view their role in preserving the state’s water through education. A native, Florida-friendly yard requires less chemicals, fertilizer and watering. Water And Environmental Conservation Workshops At Extension On a monthly basis, from February through November, we present Composting, Microirrigation and Rainwater Harvesting Workshops at the UF/IFAS Extension Hillsborough County. These workshops are free to Hillsborough County residents. The Composting workshop provides information about home composting, how to turn trash into treasure. Attendees will learn how to recycle kitchen and yard waste, while creating a rich soil amendment. Compost adds nutrients to the soil and retains moisture in the root zone where it can be used by plants. Composting workshop attendees receive a compost bin and thermometer. The Microirrigation workshop teaches attendees how to have a healthy and attractive lawn and landscape while conserving water. Tips on installing and using microirrigation are also presented. This irrigation method not only conserves water but is less restricted by current water restrictions.

Microirrigation workshop attendees receive a microirrigation kit. In the Rainwater Harvesting workshop, you can learn how rain barrels, made from a 55-gallon plastic food-grade drum, are useful for collecting rainwater for landscape bed and ornamental plant irrigation. Harvesting rainwater reducing erosion, potable water use and stormwater runoff. Rainwater harvesting workshop attendees receive a rain barrel that has been drilled and spigot installed. Each of our workshops is an hour, starting with Composting at 8:30 a.m., then Microirrigation at 9:30 a.m. and Rainwater Harvesting at 10:30 a.m. We provide one informational packet/item per household/address. The representative of the household must be an adult. Those who have already attended a workshop before are not eligible to attend again. For information, visit hillsborough.ifas.ufl.edu/calendar.shtml . Located at 5339 CR 579, Seffner.

Local Youth Baseball Softball Programs Push For Season Championship Success With its weeklong, inleague tournaments and championship game-day fast approaching, local baseball and softball programs are pushing hard to be in top shape. Living up to the reputation, batting was strong at both the Bloomingdale Youth Sports Association (BYSA) and the FishHawk Youth Baseball FYB fields last month. Consultant Predicts Need For 11 Elementary, 3 Middle And 6 New High Schools For Hillsborough Local Home School Group Hosts First Annual International Cultural Fair

Bloomingdale and surrounding area home school students and their families with Brighter Light Learning, filled the recently renovated community meeting room at the Bloomingdale Regional Library last month to host the group’s first annual International Cultural Fair. Organized by the parents, the students managed to feature, display as well as offer a brief presentation on nearly a dozen countries of their choice. Presentations included photos, crafts and in most cases a taste of traditional ethnic foods representing each country. To allow home school students additional opportunities for association and interaction Brighter Light Learning holds regular monthly craft fairs and field trips as well as weekly play time at local parks and community centers. Brighter Light is currently in the process of building its website, brighterlightgroup.com.

between 2018-2032 to accommodate student enrollment. With an average cost between $20 and 60 million dollars per school, over the next 15 years, construction is expected to cost approximately $1billion. Maintaining older school buildings for safety and functionality is expected to cost $2.51 billion during the same time period. School officials emphasized that adding to the challenge of equalizing growth is that redrawing boundaries is unlikely to resolve the need for more schools because of the great majority of the projected growth is in the southern part of the county, while the underpopulated schools are located in the northern communities. “No matter how we shuffle boundaries, we don’t have enough classroom seats given the projected numbers,” Tindale said in the release. In part, school board members asked district staff to seek creative solutions such as the possibility of leasing space for new schools in addition to constructing new schools. “We know growth is coming,” said Superintendent Jeff Eakins. “Impact fees will only go so far. We need to ask, what’s next.” For information visit sdhc.k12.fl.us.

The theme for CMU 2017 is “ONE” which is based on Ephesians 4:1-6. With this conference, the focus is on racial unity and reconciliation within God’s collective church. The attempt is to bring as many Tampa Bay area pastors and the men of their congregations together under one roof to be the example of racial reconciliation to the world. White, black, and Hispanic brothers just want to worship and fellowship with others that look like them. This isn’t right and God cannot be pleased with what He sees. John 17:20-23 says that all believers are supposed to be the epitome of unity and love so that the world will know that Jesus was sent

by God. The schedule is as follows: Friday, May 5 from 7-10 p.m. Praise & Worship with speaker Pastor HB Charles, Shiloh Church, from Jacksonville; Saturday May 6 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. – Praise & Worship with Speakers Jon Couch, This Day Ministries, and Pastor Keith Babb, The Way Church of Tampa Bay followed by lunch and an open forum on race in the church. The conference will be held at Grace Community United Methodist Church, located at 5708 Lithia Pinecrest Rd. in Lithia. Ticket Prices are $35 for adults, $25 for youth, college students, pastors and military). For more information or to register, visit www.christianmenunited.com or call 220-5296.

Brooke Hamilton Helps Create Lasting Family Memories Through Photography Brooke Hamilton of Hamilton Creek Photography is a different kind of photographer. Hamilton added, "Family photography is my love. However, anyone wanting to document their connections and not just smile at the camera on command is for me. It can be anything- a couple, a newborn session with the family as the focus or capturing chokehold with a child or a sibling session. Hamilton is a resident of Riverview. She has been a professional photographer for six years. Hamilton gets her inspiration from her family and travel. "I document my twin sons daily. But, when we go on vacations, I am in a new location and new sources inspire me to push outside the comfort of photographing in the same locations, light and backgrounds.” Hamilton is the consummate professional. She works with clients before their sessions and provides them with a welcome guide and a dress for success guide. In addition,

she sends an electronic questionnaire. All of this allows Hamilton to get to know the client and the client to know her before the session even begins. Hamilton’s photography is not just a series of photos, she offers clients unique art pieces and helps generate ideas for displaying their photographic art in their home. "I do not just show up for our sessions, take photos and then hand over a USB of images. I prepare my clients, give them tips for making the session fun, and to calm their nerves if they are worried their kids will 'act up' during the session. I also help them plan the outfits to look their best in their home and the unique locations we pick. Ultimately, the result is having great art pieces featuring their family," explained Hamilton. Hamilton is a member of a Click Pro, a modern network of highly skilled professional photographers and independent artists who are approved based on merit and portfolios. Hamilton's work has been published in Beyond the Wanderlust and Lemonade & Lenses. She was also selected to give back through photography with the Beauty Revived Most Beautiful Mothers campaign. Jill Witecki Tampa Theatre's Director of Marketing said, "It is amazing, what these kids come up with in five days. Tapping into that creativity is only part of Film Camp's influence. Campers are also learning visual literacy- how a director can use the moving image to play on emotions and manipulate a message. These young people leave with an understanding of filmmaker's motivations. They watch TV shows and commercials with a new eye, and that is not a bad thing." The Tampa Theatre is located at 711 N. FishHawk Ranch To Welcome The Goddard School

The school’s 10,000 sq. ft., state of the art building is currently being constructed at 14106 Spector Rd. in Lithia.
