AWARD-WINNING CHRISTIAN MUSIC ARTISTS PERFORMING AT THE 2022 STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL The 87th annual Florida Strawberry Festival will take place for 11 days from Thursday, March 3 through Sunday, March 13. The festival, which is ranked as the 28th top fair in North America, is not only known for its strawberry shortcakes, carnival games, youth livestock shows, food vendors and thrilling midway rides, but also it’s legendary for hosting big name musical artists and entertainment. The event typically sees more than 500,000 visitors each year. Two major Christian artists will be performing at this year’s festival: Lauren Daigle and Zach Williams. Daigle is a two-time GRAMMY, seven-time Billboard Music Award and four-time American Music Award winner. Her platinum debut album, How Can It Be, produced three number one songs, but it was her release of Look Up Child, her second consecutive platinum album, that revealed Daigle as one of the most impressive vocalists of our time. Look Up Child, which earned Daigle her second GRAMMY Award, featuring her hit song “You Say,” is the longest-running number one song to appear on any weekly Billboard chart. Daigle’s ability to connect with her audiences has been well documented. It’s

helped make her the fastest-selling new artist of her genre over the past decade and given her soulful, authentic, vocal power a worldwide audience. She’s amassed a billion worldwide streams and sold-out headline shows on three continents. This is Daigle’s first time performing at the Strawberry Festival, and she’s excited about the opportunity and encourages concertgoers to “bring their dancing shoes.” “Performing is one of my favorite things about music,” said Daigle. “Looking out every night and seeing people sing along brings a feeling of joy that doesn’t just stop at me. It connects with everyone around the room, and I think that is something I will never take for granted. It is such a blessing to be able to play music with people I love to dearly, it feels like a family reunion every time we take the stage.” Christian artist Zach Williams is an award-winning and chart-topping sing-
er and songwriter who is also performing at the Strawberry Festival. His background inspires many of his songs—he was raised by Christian parents in the church and in a loving community but was seduced away by the illusion of rock stardom, and the drugs and alcohol that so often accompany that lifestyle. Now, the Nashville-based artist is a renewed man. He’s a husband, a father and has also become one of Christian country music’s leading artists and songwriters by carving a niche with his blend of Southern rock, country and faith-filled songwriting, which quickly awarded him his first GRAMMY Award® with his debut album, 2017’s Chain Breaker. With two additional GRAMMY nods among numerous other accolades, he recently released his new album, aptly titled Rescue Story. Daigle will be performing on Saturday, March 5 at 7:30 p.m. Williams is scheduled to perform on Tuesday March 8 at 7:30 p.m. To purchase tickets and see the full list of entertainers, visit www.flstrawberryfestival.com. Tickets can also be purchased at the Amscot Main Ticket Office, located at 2209 W. Oak Ave. in Plant City, or by calling 754-1996.

Grace Notes Soul Force By Debora Coty
Soul force. What do you think Dr. King meant by that? I believe he was referring to spiritual warfare and the power of the Holy Spirit versus the power of: • The Evil One (Mathew 13:19) • The Accuser (Revelation 12:10) • The Enemy (Matthew 13:39) • Your Adversary (1 Peter 5:8) • Spiritual Forces of Wickedness (Ephesians 6:12) • Father of Lies (John 8:44) • The Tempter (Matthew 4:3) Yes, all these vile titles belong to the same despicable being: Satan. The one who delights in physical violence. The one who thrives on disunity, prejudice and hatred. The opponent of all Christians. Dear friend, let us seek to connect with the soul force Dr. King talked about. Because if that force is with us, we’ll need no other. “The ransom for a life is costly, no payment is ever enough,” (Psalm 49:8, NIV).
Recognize this life-altering quote? “We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence. Again and again we must rise to the majestic heights of meeting physical force with soul force.” Soul force. Indeed. My heart is stirred every time I hear these words from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. from his “I Have a Dream” speech on August 28, 1963, in Washington, D.C. Dr. King, a Baptist minister, made an indelible mark on the world through nonviolent civil disobedience based on his Christian beliefs. Although Dr. King was addressing African Americans striving for civil rights equality, his words are applicable to each and every Christ-follower battling seen and unseen foes today.

The Youth Sign Choir at First Presbyterian Church of Brandon is going to be meeting weekly beginning in January to prepare for a sign language concert on Sunday, February 27.
Around the world, music knits together communities. But, for people hard of hearing or deaf, seeing their favorite song in American Sign Language (ASL) being performed brings a commonality of the love of music to all people. In an effort to teach music and sign language to the youth of the community, First Presbyterian Church of Brandon is bringing back its Youth Sign Choir. The choir will be meeting weekly to practice this dramatic form of praise songs performed under black lights while wearing white gloves. The first practice will take place on Sunday, January 9, with the first performance taking place on Sunday, February 27. According to Director Phoebe Irby, there is no need to have any sign language experience because it will be taught during the Sunday night practices. Youth participants will be committed to the six-week practice schedule prior to the show. According to Irby, the Sign Choir started back in the 1990s. “I was teaching students with hearing and visual disabilities at Willis Peters Exceptional Center,” said Irby. “Most of our youth at church were very interested in learning sign language.” At the school, the music department

would do puppet shows using black lights. “Our school secretary, who was fluent in American Sign Language, was active in her church,” said Irby. “She and I got excited about using this form of worship—that is, signing with white gloves which were illuminated with the black lights.” Irby explained that the skill of ASL has been a springboard for many of the choir members. In fact, one young lady went on to teach at the school for the deaf in St. Augustine. The youth participants, along with Irby, normally determine which contemporary praise songs are used. “Our youth like to suggest favorites and they are considered, once we examine lyrics, tempo, etc.,” said Irby. “My favorite part about the Sign Choir is seeing the excitement on their faces when they have got it.” The first practice begins on January 9 at 4 p.m., with the first performance taking place on February 27 at the 9:30 a.m. church service. There is no cost, and additional performances will continue throughout the year. First Presbyterian Church of Brandon is located at 121 Carver Ave. in Brandon. Proverbs 8:12 (KJV) 12 wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions. God is a creator, and we are made in His image, so we have creativity on the inside of us too. God has an idea, a plan and a strategy that we can find and use to get to our wealthy place. We do not have to copy anybody because God has uniquely equipped each of us with a plan, a vision and a witty idea. Oftentimes, God will give us witty ideas, but we do not have the faith to take action. James 2:20 (KJV) tells us that faith without works is dead. For us to manifest all that God has planned for us, we must
put our ideas into action. They say graveyards are the wealthiest places on earth because they are full of people with witty inventions and great ideas that were never put into practice. Take your idea off the shelf and take it to the market! It just might be the next big sensation. Prayer: Lord, I thank You for I have the mind of Christ and I hold the thoughts, feelings and purposes of his heart. Lord, I thank You that I am creative because I am made in Your image. So, Lord, give me the wisdom, the discernment and the insight to create and help me to find my wealthy place, in Jesus’ name. Amen. Except from: 60 Prayers in 60 Seconds, Page 22.

Out With The Old, In With The New
By Kelly Wise Valdes
Like most of you, many of us rang in last New Year’s with hopes for a better year. But, it seems that some of our struggles continued in spite of our best hopes. It’s often during times of trials and tribulations that we turn to the One who can give us the comfort and strength we need. When we are going through hard times, it’s easy to become focused on everything that is going wrong, but if you place your focus on God and let go of the things that hurt our spirit, healing and peace can move in. Sometimes, it’s difficult to trust in God’s plan for our lives, but if you dedicate your heart to Him, you will notice a change in your spirit and vision. One of the simplest ways to start your spiritual journey of 2022 is to commit to a devotional. Whether it be a daily devotional or a weekly devotional, staying in tune with God will often bring the peace that we desire. There are many wonderful devotionals available, including family devotions, couple’s devotions and devotions designed for men, women and students. “So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom,” (Psalm 90:12). Have a blessed 2022!

HOPE FOR HURTING PARENTS AT CENTERPOINT CHURCH By Kelly Wise Valdes Many families in our community have been struggling through difficult times over the past two years. In the middle of a worldwide crisis, some families also have found themselves in personal crises. If you are a parent of teenager or young adult that may be struggling with self-injury, mental illness, depression, bullying, identity or destructive choices, you probably feel broken, powerless and isolated, but Centerpoint Church wants you to know that you are not alone. Hope for Hurting Parents is a national organization aimed at providing resources for parents hurting over destructive behaviors or choices of their teen to adult children. Centerpoint Church hosts a local support group affiliated with the Hope for Hurting Parents organization. The program is facilitated by Angela Parker, director of communications at Centerpoint Church, along with her husband. “My husband and I decided to create this group because we have walked through difficult parenting seasons with our teens, and we quickly learned how isolating it can be,” said Parker. “We looked for safe places to talk and vent about our experiences and work through our own emotions, and we found that there weren’t many resources in this area, so we decided to create one.” This group is open to the entire community and there is no need to register. The meetings are free, but there is an optional parent resource book that can be purchased, though it is not required in order to attend or participate. “Meetings begin by introducing ourselves by first name and reviewing the ground

rules—that everything discussed at these meetings is confidential,” said Parker. “From there, we ask for updates from those who want to share—but sharing is completely optional. After that, we have a time of learning and discussion— these lessons are based on equipping parents with coping skills and creating a framework to talk about their experiences. At the end of our meetings, we have a time for prayer for those who want to participate.” “The best part of facilitating this group is seeing other parents’ shoulders relax and let their guard down and settle into the fact that they aren’t alone,” said Parker. “So many people come to us hesitant to share, guarded against all of the judgmental opinions or advice that they are afraid they will get—again. But when they come, they experience a place where they can talk freely, where no one is trying to ‘fix’ their kid, where they can share the messy feelings that come with parenting a ‘prodigal’ and feel safe from judgment.” The biggest thing Parker wants people to know is that parenting teens is difficult in the best of circumstances, but when teens make destructive choices, it can be incredibly stressful and dredge up a lot of painful emotions including fear, shame, anger and helplessness. The meetings will take place year-round beginning in January every second and fourth Tuesday from 7-8 p.m. at Centerpoint Church, located at 1720 S. St Cloud Ave. in Valrico. For more information, visit www. centerpointfl.org or call 689-1906.

WINTER JAM 22 COMING TO AMALIE ARENA FEATURING SKILLET, WELLS & NEWSONG By Kelly Wise Valdes
After being interrupted in 2020 and cancelled in 2021, the Winter Jam Tour Spectacular is back in full swing in 2022 with its ‘All Together Now’ tour. The iconic Winter Jam Tour Spectacular will return to Tampa on Friday, January 14 at AMALIE Arena with many familiar faces including Skillet, Tauren Wells and NewSong headlining the biggest Christian music tour in the world. Some of the other performers featured on the 2022 tour will be Colton Dixon, KB, I AM THEY, Abby Robertson, Pastor Shane Pruitt, Bayside Worship and Megan Duke. The Winter Jam Tour has ranked among the top first-quarter tours in the world. The first tour began in 1995 with its founder, Eddie Carswell from NewSong. After 27 years, the Winter Jam Tour still proves to be one of the most successful Christian artist concert tours. During past tours, the concerts were attended by more than 600,000 people at more than 40 cities. “Due to the times we are living in, I think Winter Jam will have more ener-
gy, more passion and will be more encouraging than ever before,” said John Cooper of Skillet as part of the tour announcement. “We are ready, the fans are ready—let’s kick off 2022 as a year of victory instead of defeat.” The 41-city tour launches in January 2022 with two shows in Florida. The Tampa concert is being held at AMALIE Arena on January 14 with doors opening for the Pre-Jam party at 5 p.m. Members of Jam Nation have early entrance at 4:30 p.m. and start time for the main concert begins at 7 p.m. The entrance fee is $10 at the door. Winter Jam has always had a firstcome, first-serve admission policy and will often reach venue capacity. Unfortunately, this means that people may be turned away at the door. Becoming a member of Jam Nation allows consumers to enter early to secure premium seating, in addition to many other benefits. For more information, visit www. jamtour.com. AMALIE Arena is located at 401 Channelside Dr. in Tampa.

Hallgrímskirkja Church – Reykjavík, Iceland Iceland’s tallest and largest church is also its most photographed site. Named after 17th-century hymn writer and church scholar Reverend Hallgrímur Pétursson, the infamous Hallgrímskirkja Church was designated to begin construction in 1945 and was finished in 1986, taking more than 40 years to complete. The church was designed by one of Iceland’s most famous architects, Guðjón Samúelsson, who is said to have sought inspiration for his modern design from natural Icelandic elements including the basalt lava flows and waterfalls. The shape of the futuristic structure is a cross between a glacier and a rocket ship. Visible from almost any point in the capital city of Reykjavík, Hallgrímskirkja Church sits at the top of a hill above the central art and design shopping street in the capital. The iconic building is more than 22-stories in height, and a visit to the top rewards sightseers with priceless views of Reykjavík. The church also features an oversized pipe organ designed and constructed by a famous German organ builder.
The organ weighs more 25 tons and is more than 4 stories in height. Sitting in front of the iconic church is a statue of Icelandic Viking Leif Eiriksson. He was the first European to set foot on the North American continent around A.D. 1000. Historians believe that Eiriksson found America 500 years before Christopher Columbus. Archaeologic findings also suggest that he settled there for some time. The statue was a gift from the United States in 1930. Hallgrímskirkja is a Lutheran church, as are most churches in Iceland, with services held each Sunday. The wonderful acoustics and the enormous pipe organ make it a perfect venue for classical music concerts. It also serves as a focal meeting point for many cultural and community events, such as the annual gathering for watching the fireworks on New Year’s Eve. On this night, thousands of local people set off dozens of fireworks in unbelievably dazzling show. For more information, visit https://www.hallgrimskirkja.is/en.
Live Like You Mean It ...
The Strongest Part Of Who I Am “Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well,” (3 John 1:2). It is a sure sign of aging when your health insurance provider sends someone to your house to make sure you’re not dead! Well, something like that. They did my first Medicare checkup, and the nurse practitioner was very impressed with everything, from my medicines (none) to my 15,000 steps per day to my 168 pounds to my BMI. But my favorite was the mental acuity test.
First, she gave me three random words to remember. Later, she asked what they were, in the middle of another question. It was too easy, because the words (‘cat,’ ‘baby’ and ‘house’) immediately made me think of our 1-year-old grandson playing with his cat in their Miami house. That’s an image that is impossible to shake. After that, she asked me to draw a clock face—analog—representing ‘1:15.’ When I completed the task I said, “I’m sorry, but did you want that time to be a.m. or p.m.?” She didn’t think I was very funny at all.
The exercise made me wonder about health, and how we measure it. Is it about functionality, or something more? Are we surviving, or do we want to thrive? Where does our body end our soul begin? What is really important, moving forward? And what am I going to need, going into my next decade and beyond? Because in my world now it is absolutely and unarguably p.m. The good news is that while my mental acuity will one day reveal some slowing down, and my physical strength will eventually show signs or

wear, my life with God can continue to thrive and to grow and become the strongest part of who I am. And that is a good plan. Because finally—even though I will continue to thrive rather than simply survive—this life with God that is at the core of who I am is going to be all I need. country music artist LeAnn Rimes is releasing a new album titled God’s Work, which she describes as “an inspirational record.” Rimes explained that the album’s title represents what we were placed
on earth to do. “I actually have ‘God’s Work’ tattooed on my arm because I do believe that we are all a part of that and here to put down the doctrine and our own beliefs of duality and our differences, and actually love one another and create a new world,” said Rimes. Some of the songs on the album explore the beauty of being human and holy. Rimes hopes that God’s Work, which will come out a little over 25 years after her first album, Blue, will bring people closer together during a time when there is so much division. The album is scheduled to release in early 2022. For more information, visit www.leannrimes.com.
In a recent interview, Parton said she did not want to be worshipped for her generosity and added that donating should not be done seeking admiration. “I don’t want to be worshiped, because there’s a Scripture in my Bible that talks about idol worship,” Parton explained, “and I see that happening all the time with movie stars and these celebrities. People literally worship them more than they worship God.” Parton has always been very vocal about her faith. The 10-time GRAMMY winner
grew up in a Christian household—her grandfather was a preacher at her church and her mother was a preacher’s daughter. For more information about Parton’s Imagination Library, visit www.imaginationlibrary.com.

VALRICO COMMUNITY COMES TOGETHER TO HELP QUEENA By Libby Hopkins
Former Senator Ronda Storms recently held an event in Valrico to benefit Queena Nguyen, who was brutally attacked at the Bloomingdale Library in 2008.
Queena Nguyen, who was brutally attacked at the Bloomingdale Library in 2008, is considered to be a champion in the Brandon community, and recently residents came together yet again to help support her. “I remember, in 2011, Queena was set to lose the majority of her benefits on her 21st birthday when she aged out of child Medicaid services,” said Queena’s mother, Vanna Nguyen. “Former Senator Ronda Storms worked tirelessly on behalf of Queena, writing countless letters and having meetings with state agencies. Thank God for the help of Senator Rhonda Storms, Queena could be enrolled in the Aged and Disabled Adult Medicaid Waiver Program. So, she has been my hero and role model since then.” Storms recently held a fundraiser for Queena and her family at Gather & Seek Vintique in Valrico. “When Queena’s book first came out, I was hesitant to read it,” Storms said. “When I finally did, I was so inspired by the book, it
was on my heart to do something, yet again for Vanna and Queena.” Storms’ son, Gideon, also was curious about Queena’s book, The Life She Once Knew, as well. “When I told him what it was about and he read, he said we should do something for Queena,” Storms said. “I knew then that we needed to do something since the book inspired my son and I.” Storms contacted Gather & Seek Vintique’s Alicia Bingham, who agreed to host the book signing fundraiser for Queena and Vanna. “The host committee for this event approached several artists in the community, who donated art for the event,” Vanna said. “This was a wonderful event and the event raised $3,195, which has been a blessing for Queena. We are so thankful for Rhonda and everyone who came together for this event.” Vanna truly believes these community events help Queena in more ways than just financially. “The community comes together to help lift our spirit and continues to support Queena towards her recovery,” Vanna said. “I feel how much the Lord loves Queena and sees our family through the community. We feel strongly that it was God’s intention to encourage us and support our family through the love of our community.” To learn more about Queena’s book or to purchase a copy of it, visit Queena’s website at www.joinqueena.com.
